I don’t believe it but there are some apparently interesting facts but I’ve missed placed my copy. I’ll list what I can remember as being of note. 1) Olympic was involved in a severe collision with a Royal Navy vessel that I think bent her keel out of line and this was not something that could economically be repaired but this did impact on her efficiency. 2) During the repairs Titanic s propeller (screw?) was installed on the Olympic as Titan hadn’t be launched yet and they were exchanged. Images of the sunken ship show the propeller marked ‘Titanic’ , but Titanics propeller had been installed on Olympic. 3) There are two pictures that purport to show the Titanic, but the hull plating is arranged differently, suggesting that one is Olympic and one is Titanic. 4) No binoculars were available for the watches, I think they’d been lock in a cupboard and the officer with the keys was left in Southampton. As for arranging for her sinking, the steaming at full speed through the ice field does seem rather reckless. As I say I don’t think the Olympic was discovered in the North Atlantic but I do like a conspiracy book. The Philadelphia Experiment and Nick Cooks ‘The Hunt For Zero Point’ are good reads. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2021 (edited) Good morning all, Very fine snow falling but it has settled and the road is covered but probably no more than an inch. I'm not going out to measure the depth! Further snow flurries forecast throughout the day and it will stay breezy. Currently -1°C. One parcel due today which is a flat pack coffee table with lift up top for storage that The Boss decided she wanted. The air could be blue later in Much Swearing In The Sutt. Zoom meetings with friends went well yesterday with a goodly mixture of humour and erudite discussion along with a soupçon of drivel. One of my old schoolmates emailed me a copy of the school magazine from 1962 which was quite amusing to read. Many old names from the past featured but yours truly didn't. Running a bit late for breakfast so I better put that right. Have a good one and and don't slip over, Said he of the superb accident record. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2021 so at 7:50am this morning the cowboy cavity wall installation people started drilling in the walls next door - they haven't checked but they won't get a lot of insulation in as the wall cavities are very thin (the house was built in 1920s).. and I wonder if they know that there is a void above the bay window at the front of the house.. they could be doing pour cavity as well(!) Why are they cowboys (well they should have checked what is between the walls first before strating to even think about getting started.. two very reputable companies have tested both ours and next doors and said.. nope you have to add insulation onto the internal walls... looks like they won't mind the damp! (and they need to get the damp proof course sorted too) I am beginning to be like @AndrewCregarding neighbours. Pah! Off to brave the cold to collect my prescriptions. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2021 Back home. No problem walking to clinic, the fresh snow was safer than ice. I was seen very quickly, asked a few questions jabbed with AstraZeneca and sent home. No waiting afterwards like the Pfizer version. I don’t have an appointment for second dose but I should be contacted in 6 to 8 weeks. Tony 21
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning all from the Arctic North East of Scotland, we are not quire knee deep in the white stuff, but pretty close and it's chuckin' more of it darn as I type. Yesterdays walk in the snow was nice enough until it started chuckin' BB shot sized hail at us, flippin' painful when it hit your exposed skin. Birds are fed and the fire is lit, possibly go for another play in the snow later, SWMBO was doing snow angels in it yesterdays, not sure who is the dafter in this household at times lol. Videoed it and sent it to the Grandkids, they thought it was funny anyway.
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 9, 2021 Good morning everyone Well it’s snowed overnight, but like yesterday it isn’t very much, I’d say it’s about 1mm Deep if that! But it’s colder than yesterday, currently-2C outside with a slight breeze, but I don’t plan to go outside at all today, so I don’t really mind. Today will see me apply a second coat of primer/undercoat on the 2 chairs, when they’re done I shall continue with my TPO decal designs. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian

I have been working on a couple of new songs as well as pushing myself in new directions - learning new techniques and improving old ones. But, unfortunately, the return of my Mojo has also meant the return of my rather severe GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). This infliction is further worsened by exposure to high quantities of spare toy and model tokens. Currently, I am toying with the idea of either replacing my Fender Squier telecaster (which I sold off to buy the HIWATT amp last year), going for a PRS-SE Standard 24 (such as this: https://www.musix.com/ch/en/PRS-SE-Standard-24-TB-translucent-blue-incl.-bag-192027.html?cs=$B) or perhaps going for a Harley Benton CST-24T Emerald Flame (https://www.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_cst_24t_emerald_flame.htm) as a test bed for modifications. Decisions, decisions! Enjoy the day! iD Oh go on, push the boat out, one of each, go on, you know you want to, haha. The HB does look rather nice, I have to say. 15
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Rebooked my covid jab due to the weather. With my dodgy legs its not worth the risk going out. My new jab day is Monday. I tried the NHS website at first but although I clicked on the 'I want to change my appointment' button it seemed to think I was a new applicant and started offering places as far away as Sidcup but not the vaccination centre I was booked at. In the end I called my GP surgery and the young lady sorted it straight away. 1
Popular Post jonny777
Bright and cold here in North Somerset, but the wind has dropped since yesterday. We had a few flakes of snow yesterday, but if I had blinked I would have probably missed it. Continuing my classics lockdown reading, I have decided on "The Picture Of Dorian Gray" as a successor to Wildfell Hall. I don't know why, but I wanted something which I had no prior knowledge of and sites such as '100 books to read before you die' are full of H G Wells, George Orwell and Thomas Hardy, some of which I was made to read at school for English Literature O Level and left me cold at the time. I am not intending to read Anne Of Green Gables or Little Women, which are included in the 100 books and I don't fancy American authors at this present time. Oscar Wilde was not a person on the syllabus at our school, probably because his pastimes were a little too close for comfort for some of the staff, given the strange rules for pupils there at the time. As for the A17, I view it as a kind of lottery. It all depends on the speed of the slowest driver in front of you, and how far they are going. Normally, the slower ones have about 2 miles of traffic trudging along behind them, and in the harvest season progress behind agricultural vehicles can be 'very' slow. One thing intrigued me on my last drive west from Kings Lynn while clearing my Dad's bungalow; that was an artic HGV which I was following and did a steady 45 mph until we passed from Norfolk into Lincolnshire, and then suddenly speeded up to 55-60mph thereafter. I am not sure whether that was just coincidence or if the driver knew something that I didn't.

Having attacked in daylight in the presence of several people, it would appear to have lost any fear of humans. Given how busy that recreation area can get, and the number of young (I.e. small) children we saw around on our visit on Saturday, it will almost certainly be hunted and killed. There are quite a few cougars in the forests around here and, like most wild animals, they’re wary of people. When they lose that fear, for whatever reason, it usually doesn’t go well for them. 2 11 3
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2021 Morning al, Editor duly cleared having yet again made one of his totally irrational appearances. Some funny little (mainly little) snowflakes are attempting to land but the only place where there is any real indication of success is on the lawn where some white is noticeable among the blades of grass. Further occasional episodes of the invasion are forecast but I doubt any sort of problems, even on the Manx level, will arise round here. It remains nicely cold. (nicely as in if you do not have to spend very long out in it). I think today's major event will be the further loading and moving round to the front of the recycling bin - what a varied life some of us lead. I do have a magazine/comic to look at as it has spent several quarantined but it's only been bought for a particular reason so will probably not be a long term addition to the 'library'. (a quick check has revealed that it does not contain a 'picture' of my ugly mug which was a potential concern so once again anonymiity is maintained). As for a personal record of covid jabs the little cards are very nice but hardly need the work of a forger as a top notch photocopier could probably do the job. But no doubt if they know the wrong kind of people the criminal fraternity could probably buy enough blank ones to make a. tidy sum selling them on. It's really no more than an aid for manufacturer/medicos in the event of any problems because it shows the date of injection and the batch number of what has been shot into you. Proof of vaccination - when that stage is eventually reached after the second dose - needs to be something far more secure. Have a good day one and all and stay safe

Popular Post Winslow Boy
I believe that I am being descriminated against. Why I here you cry. Well I shall tell you. Are you sitting comfortably children good. It all begins many moons ago when this big bad ogre called Cadent decided that it was going to make walking on the pavement a crime against humanity. So it dug up all of pavements and forced everybody to walk in the middle of the road. That is apart from the stretch outside ours and several of our neighbours. Well isn't that a good thing I hear you ask. No it isn't because the real reason - you didn't really believe there was a big bad ogre called Cadent did you, the holes were needed was to replace our gas supply. We were told it needed to be done three weeks ago and to prove it we had a visitation from the sub contractor, Balfour Betee, then from the sub-sub contractor who was actually doing the work. Well you won't be surprised if I tell you that we are still waiting. Not everybody though. They have done the people to the left of us, jumped over us and houses either side and opposite, to carry on up the road. Was it something we said. We are definitely put out. We want our holes. Yours holier without. N Holes 1 17
Popular Post BlackRat
Greetings one and all from a fresh and blowy Kernow. Strange times we live in, trying to arrange a funeral isn't good at the best of times, throw in Covid restrictions and it's a bit of a nitemare. Still we seem to be getting sorted, and now it's all the rigmarole of going thru and sorting MiLs possessions etc. Normally charity shops are welcome recipients of new and good clothes etc but as they are all shut..............I think we will store them till things ease up. Talking of 'hard little coppers' ..... I worked with one who was ex SBS, silent but ohhh so violent when required. I can recall one incident.......when I pretended he was on his way to subdue one idiot, his previous dealings were enough for him to ' come quietly'! Happy days! 21

RMweb Premium Popular Post NGT6 1315 Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2021 Cheers, m‘luds. There’s a shiny thing in the sky. Forgot what it’s called! I hurt myself somehow when I was clearing snow yesterday (the strain of the route monitoring shift the night before probably having played a role as well), so I’m at home today, followed by a week off. A message to my GP was duly emailed and I can pick up an off-work certification and a prescription later. From what I can tell, numerous physicians here (all across Germany, in fact) have adopted a variety of e-healthcare services, including things like remote appointments through video chats and several others, during the current crisis, which I’m sure would have been met with a „no can do“ mindset under normal circumstances. It sure would be nice if making things possible rather than wasting time arguing why they shouldn’t be would remain an attitude to adhere to once COVID has been reined in! Basic services on at least partial lengths have now resumed on four tram routes and seven bus routes. I learned that over the course of Monday, about sixty trams and thirty buses had become stranded across the city. Well, given my impressions from our night shift, I can only reiterate my assessment that this could have been avoided by the hell not sending out services just for flying the flag… Stay safe, everyone. 4 1
