Got a little one of those in a box somewhere. I was going to mention that; the vents were redesigned and the fleet re-equipped with them. BTW it was 11.5 kv at 25cy. As far as I know, and leaving out the last 3 or so years 1963-67 when most of them started to migrate there, Kingmoor had no Britannias allocated except for a few months around 1961/62. I wonder where this idea has come from? A lazy, unverified assumption that, because the large majority of the class were withdrawn from Kingmoor 1965-68, there had always been many of the class shedded there? (I would also disagree with the term ‘finest’!) 4 3

One that I used to have would pull twenty full scale passenger cars. As my interest in head-end equipment increased, I would add an RPO, express reefer, baggage, or whatever and one coach or sleeper would get pulled as the motor started to struggle with twenty-one and not move with twenty-two or more. I always wonder what it would do if I added several pounds of lead (there was room). Edited February 8, 2021 by J. S. simontaylor484
I believe the latest conspiracy theory re the Titanic is that White Star Line swapped her and Olympic (no Chris f not the little chef breakfast) in some form of insurance fraud. But unless they knew She was going to sink its pretty pointless. The wreck proves at least a ship sank that is undeniable unless Robert Ballard was really diving on a set that they used to fake the Moon landings. A good point - a wonderful bozo filter. No jab = no entry, so those who do get in have a head start in the commonsense stakes. Bear spent the evening checking the kitchen design and adjusting accordingly. The plasterer has made my not-very-big-to-start-with kitchen even smaller, so a re-measure was called for and layout adjusted accordingly using the on-line planning tool. I'm not ready to press the "order" button just yet - I need to build up courage for that one. It'll be the biggest spend I've made, apart from the house purchase and several cars. No pressure..... 18 1

Whilst watched by lizards dressed as the Royal Family Through curiosity and an interest in the subject I bought the book and read it. I don’t believe it but there are some apparently interesting facts but I’ve missed placed my copy. I’ll list what I can remember as being of note. 1) Olympic was involved in a severe collision with a Royal Navy vessel that I think bent her keel out of line and this was not something that could economically be repaired but this did impact on her efficiency. 2) During the repairs Titanic s propeller (screw?) was installed on the Olympic as Titan hadn’t be launched yet and they were exchanged. Images of the sunken ship show the propeller marked ‘Titanic’ , but Titanics propeller had been installed on Olympic. 3) There are two pictures that purport to show the Titanic, but the hull plating is arranged differently, suggesting that one is Olympic and one is Titanic. 4) No binoculars were available for the watches, I think they’d been lock in a cupboard and the officer with the keys was left in Southampton. As for arranging for her sinking, the steaming at full speed through the ice field does seem rather reckless. As I say I don’t think the Olympic was discovered in the North Atlantic but I do like a conspiracy book. The Philadelphia Experiment and Nick Cooks ‘The Hunt For Zero Point’ are good reads. Forty-odd years ago I had a temp job as a general handyman for a white goods dealer who sold Miele kitchens. Part of the job was to assist the kitchen fitter as required. One job was a new build where the rep had measured up before the plasterer had been.... Fortunately the lost few inches almost exactly matched the width of a blanking piece that was to cover a gap between units. As there was no gap we left off the spare piece, chiselled out a bit of plaster and it all fitted. We had swirling snow intermittently today, not enough to settle although it's been cold enough. I made another trip to Aldi but they still don't have the alleged interesting beers and the reduced cider was sold out. Never mind. stay elfy, Pete 21 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted February 8, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 8, 2021 (edited) The Olympic theory is hardly new. In the early 80s I was renting a flat from one of the top UK experts on the Titanic and he mentioned it. The more recent theory that the fire in the coal bunker (which was kept quiet at the time) massively weakened the hull in the impact area holds water (or not!). While there I had the privilege of meeting Survivors Millvina Dean and her brother Bert. Edited February 8, 2021 by petethemole 17 1
Popular Post Simon G
Evening all, Busy day today, starting with a visit to Sister Drac, only to find that the usual hamfisted person was supervising a new trainee. The trainee was far better and I hope to her her take my blood in the future. Then it was off to Cockermouth, as Mrs G had a dentists appointment. Due to a closed road in the village, I had to take a long way round. Once I got onto the main A595, I was astonished at the amount of traffic around. It was simply like there was no lockdown in force, as the numbers of cars appeared no different to what used to be normal. We simply couldn’t work out where everybody was going late in the morning. we then had a walk out this afternoon, and it was really bitter, despite us being really well wrapped up. On the subject of lockdown, a piece of local news made my blood boil this morning. A mountain rescue volunteer had suffered “life changing injuries” following a fall of about 500 feet. The reason the mountain rescue team was out was because two wild campers who were breaching lockdown had got into trouble and had called for help. They were fined £200. I only hope that they have a conscience between them and make a significant donation to the injured volunteer. 6 18
