Long time no see again, I know. I still can’t seem to find as many opportunities for checking forums and similar as I’d prefer for all sorts of reasons...

 

We‘ve a fairly interesting weather forecast for intense snowfall up to 14 inches or more and high winds, possibly resulting in significant snowdrifts, with corresponding warnings in effect from 1800 hours tonight. And I can’t stay at home, unfortunately... 

 

Stay safe, everyone. If I should get stuck on my tram, that would certainly be an interesting experience...

Afternoon All

 

Sorry that I've been absent all week, but my mojo for most matters computerate is on the wane again.

 

So all I can offer is the usual wide ranging greetings of the generic variety. 

 

Looks like much of the East of the country is going to get a snowy hammering - cue many pictures on TV of cars getting stuck in it, even though there have been a number of warnings, we are still in lockdown, and drivers will probably just ignore everything and drive until stuck - then put all the rescue services into overdrive.  We here are, for once, outside the warning areas, and depending on which forecast you believe - Met Office, or BBC (or another of your choosing), we SHOULD escape the worst of this one in the West of the country.

 

I'm off now to have my dinner, and snuggle up with a malt by the stove, which we are, in anticipation of the coal ban, now running as a pure log burner.

A group of car enthusiasts who held a meet opposite a town's police station in Essex have been fined for breaching coronavirus lockdown regulations.

 

Police officers were working at the Basildon station when they noticed the gathering across the road on Wednesday evening.

 

When officers arrived they said they "found a group of drivers... who had met up to inspect each other's vehicles".

 

The Essex force said 13 fines were issued and the drivers were dispersed.

 

Sgt Steve Parish, from the Roads Policing Unit, said the force had been impressed with how well car enthusiasts had generally adhered to the government's "stay at home" message throughout the pandemic, adding: "We would ask them to keep doing that."

Afternoon all,

Today has definitely been the best day of the year so far, for a variety of reasons.  These are that no 2 son and his long term girlfriend got engaged yesterday, the next is that I received my first dose of the AZ vaccine today, then we have the Six Nations rugby starting, then England doing really well so far in the cricket against India.  Finally today’s walk was very pleasant and we heard a couple of woodpeckers tapping away on the trees.  sadly we didn’t get to see them, but we don’t often hear them either.  The only downside of the walk was that it takes us past an indoor chicken farm, and being downwind of that is not a pleasant experience!

 

No details yet on when the wedding will take place, but if they do things at their usual rate it could still be a long time away!  Nonetheless we are pleased that he finally popped the question.

 

Off to watch the rugby!

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Still just grey outside, no sign of the predicted rain/sleet/snow. Actually my house is better sheltered to weather coming from a north easterly direction than the west. That is because I am at the western end of both the street and the terrace and the street is well endowed with trees and shrubs.

That seems rather odd as opposite Basildon Nick is a multi-storey car park and strictly no parking on the street.

You can look into the police station from the multi-storey car park. Perhaps the car enthusiasts were in the car park and a police officer looked out of their window!

I think he will be impeached. He said he intends to stand again in 2024 impeachment would prevent him from doing so.. I can't see the Republican party putting forward his candidature so he will have to stand as an independent. If he did its likely that he'd split the Republican vote. That is why I think the Republicans will vote with the Democrats for impeachment.

Up early to go into town with Mrs NHN for her Pilates class, so didn't get on this morning.  Then around and about all day, Debs got some new boots for her %&th  ;-)  burfday, then we had lunch and went to Peel for an ice cream - diabetic version for me.  Then out for a posh sitty-down curry tonight with friend Jayne celebrating Debs and Jayne's birthdays which were both this week.  Both %&   

 

Dry and sunny all day, and absolutely baltic, wind cutting folk in half as you walked!

Actually unrelated to impeachment or not, receiving them is purely a courtesy extended by the current president to prior presidents.
Pres. Biden can simply and easily decide for himself NOT to provide them, nothing legal or otherwise anyone can do about it, fortunately, and Biden has stated he sees no reason to provide them

There's pretty much no chance enough Senators from the Republican side will vote for a conviction, they're all far too worried about their image to do that and upset their home bases. It's not a good bet at all...

possibly because Scotland thoroughly deserved their win.  SWMBO early on said that I've never heard you be so rubbishing of England so early on.  She was right.  She also said that I get so het up watching England that I should stop doing it forthwith, she has a point. Elder kids can enjoy either way if they so wish.

 

Townsend was calm at half time when England were 31 up last time and has definitely justified being kept on after the World Cup and boy was he smiling - justifiably.

They're not allowed to celebrate after scoring but I found it quite amusing watching the England match this afternoon as the players all stood socially distanced while the anthems were playing then once the whistle blew started knocking hell out of each other.

Sounds like what Dad would come up with on Tuesday evenings (Tuesday was his day off) with the Sunday leftovers and new additions. He called it his "Tuesday concoction"; it was usually quite good as the Sunday leftovers had aged to perfection.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch

 

Bear has finished sanding Tomorrow I'll go over the walls and circle any bits that could do with a scrape of filler, which of course will need a sand   Overall I'm happy with the plastering job - he was available, the price was right, a nice bloke - and a decent job that suits what I'm doing.  However, if I'd been painting the plastered walls directly I would be less pleased.  Not much danger of that in these houses though - they're prone to seasonal movement so unless you like filling and painting walls every couple of years it's a no-no.

Apart from that it was the installation of the new house phone - which of course means the fun of diving behind cupboards etc. to plug them into mains sockets and phone line.  And as there were four handsets that meant four cupboards  And then it was transferring all the contacts from the old fone to the new phone....

However, a chippie run was rather successful - Bear had his usual chip roll and a saveloy; I did ponder having a large chip roll (a long roll rather than a round one) but fought off the urge - sadly the chip shop lady started filling a long roll and I decided it would've been unfair to correct her .  No LDC though

OTOH she is too old to lead her country, Charles is a bit old to ascend the throne and if he is a long lived as his mother, we will be in the same situation.  Best bet - give the job to William, young, lovely wife, photogenic kids and admired all over the world.  What is it with the American people and their leaders; Trump 74, gone for a bit though.  Biden 78, will he last full term, being prez is hard work, long hours, etc, and he will be over 80, then another election with the same scenario.  One thing, with Royals this doesn't happen so much.!

If you do that, then the idea of a hereditary monarchy is broken - the whole point is no-one gets to chose who gets the job. If you starting picking and choosing, especially on the basis of being photogenic, you'll end up with a "celebrity" in the job.
