Morning, Awl,

Usual 5 hour sleep so far, pink pills taken, more sleep hoped for shortly.

 

I see the forecast has upped the max wind speed to 50mph, and the snowstorm arriving has been given the name Darcy.

 

Plans for today,

Cut up trailer bed if it's not raining,

More shelving.

But first. Sleep.

Temp has been falling all day -- now down to -11 or -8.5 (depending on which thermometer). We had snow overnight and on into the day --road crew had roads and driveways cleared by 11:00.

We tried for a walk but after two turns we were facing into the wind and even SWMBO decided to return by the shortest route. 

I continued landscaping a bit outside the concentric strips of metal. Found paint container that was fully gelled. I had 10 shades of green. 

Apparently our government is trying to sneak us into the Covid line for developing countries.

 

Some years ago, there was a link to a mapping/viewing site where we could see enough detail to count sleepers. I lost it when I changed computers; does anyone have it?

Greetings one and all

 

Today we might spare a thought for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for today is the 69th anniversary of her accession to the throne.  I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to stay in the same job for 69 years!  My own working life lasted for just short of 36 years and glad I have been these past 15 years to be free of it.  Like all working lives, there were good and bad bits and there were good and bad workmates.  Is a bad workmate better than none at all?  At least Her Maj gets out of the house, I mean palace, once in a while.

 

I did the dry run yesterday to be sure in my own mind where I will need to go for my jab next week.  Thoughtfully, those responsible for the jabbing centre have provided an illuminated sign, making the job of finding the place an easy one.  The trip was made sort of on my way to the supermarket, where provisions were chosen: nothing too inspirational though.   A black forest gateau proved irresistible.  It is supposed to serve eight.  Yeah, right.

 

The irritations keep on coming.  On yesterday’s fodder run I bought a six pot pack of yogurt.  One of the pots split, depositing a large dollop of lemon and lime yogurt inside my backpack.  I am surprised it doesn’t happen more often.  Thankfully I had a sufficient wodge of tissues to scoop out the mess.

 

Today should have seen the first of two days of the Stafford show, yet another victim of that ruddy virus.  I usually meet my cousin 88C and his wife for a mid morning cuppa, which gives us a chance to put the world to rights.  One year, I recall, snow started to fall at about 1.30 pm.  This prompted my departure.  I managed to stay just ahead of the snow all the way home!

This weekend will be the first in some time when I won't have to do anything work related and I'm determined to make the most of it - even if I do very little.

 

It's just over a year since I started this three month contract, although it was pointed out to me yesterday by a colleague that "this place is like the Hotel California". I've been working on a project that came almost out of nowhere, has taken about 90% of my time over the last three weeks and still has a way to go. With a brief lull in proceedings, I'm actually looking forward to doing mundane stuff like cleaning the bathroom and mopping the kitchen floor.

 

The downside of a fast moving project is I've been awake since 2.30 and have already had several muggsatea and breakfast. I've put the time to good use however, by catching up on events in ER and other threads on here. I may return upstairs shortly for further eyelid inspection before resurfacing for a bacon, egg and mushroom sandwich. Along with the housework, I really must do something in the way of exercise and fresh air. This week's step count is even lower than the last.

Ah, my home town show and an annual highlight when we lived in Stafford. I well remember that year. Unlike Chris I was not so lucky. I'd booked a hotel in North Hipposhire with the intention of walking up The Wrekin the next day. I stayed until near the day's end (well I was staying locally wasn't I?) and consequently my 45 minute journey took over 3 hours as the traffic slipped and slithered along the A5.

 

When I arrived at the hotel they were rather surprised as many guests had not made it at all. I still made it up The Wrekin though.

Good morning all,

Been up since 5.30 after a fitful night's sleep.  It was dry outside but now it's raining and likely to continue to do so throughout the day.  Threats of sleet or snow tonight.

Rugby enjoyed last night, a tight match with the Sharks managing to overcome the Bears in their den.

Two matches to watch this afternoon, Italy v France and England v Scotland.

A request has been made for me to assist with domestic duties this morning.  In view of the upcoming afternoon's entertainment which does not interest Herself it might be a good idea to comply.

Thanks - sounds like a similar technique to their ginger ones Bear found in the Co-op a couple of weeks back.  Bear isn't a huge fan of ginger bikkies, though they are edible.  However, since the Co-op were flogging them off at 8p a pack.....

I had the great pleasure of seeing Toyah starring in the title role in a play called Trafford Tanzi in the early 80s at the Mermaid theatre.  For those who don't know it's about a girl who becomes a champion wrestler and the whole play is set in a wresting ring.  I was amazed at how athletic she was including launching herself off the corner posts into the ring.  Audience participation with booing and jeering was much encouraged and we really enjoyed it.

Bear saw it also - it kept appearing on both news and radio.  Not sure what made it worthy of national news, but under normal circumstances if such behaviour were to occur in a company then certain participants would find themselves up in front of HR PDQ.  I've a feeling that certain members may well have fallen from favour, if they ever had it that is.

Bear has yet more sanding to look forward to today - fortunately the last wall , much of which will be covered with either kitchen base or wall units so less critical.  After that it'll be circling in pencil any little defects that need a scrape of filler - though that will be reserved for tomorrow I think.

The starlings seem to have learned how to negotiate the spikes I glued around the tray of bird food, and I saw a wood pigeon make a few pathetic efforts to hover over them yesterday while working out "how to land on that infernal contraption", but pigeons have been absent this morning. Good news I hope. 

 

The only thing which concerns me about vaccines, is why has the covid virus remained almost stable until we are at the point of vaccinating everyone against it, and then suddenly it starts mutating in different countries all at the same time? I know viruses will mutate, but one could be forgiven for thinking this one is doing it to order.

The only thing which concerns me about vaccines, is why has the covid virus remained almost stable until we are at the point of vaccinating everyone against it, and then suddenly it starts mutating in different countries all at the same time? I know viruses will mutate, but one could be forgiven for thinking this one is doing it to order. 

Kamikaze pigeon! Would only take one to 'sacrifice itself' / be desperate enough, in the name of the greater cause to take out all of your anti-pigeon defences.

Another riveting day...  boring more like.

But it's the last day on the "busy" desk - one day on the less busy desk and then that's it for a week.  Then in for 4 days, then off for 5!

While normal 9-5 might be fine, I don't mind a bit more of a crazy working pattern

 

Trying out Asda's own naan bread today (not the small ones in the purple packets near the sauces).

I bought one ages ago that tasted exactly like an authentic one from an Indian takeaway but have since forgot the make or even the store where I got it.  Bought another larger one but didn't taste very nice at all.  This one was found in the bread section.  So far, so good.

We usually pick up a couple of proper naans from the Indian (where a cheeky half goes down nice while I'm waiting!) to have with home made indian, although haven't done that in a while.

And her majesty is likely to go on for a few years yet if the longevity of her mother is anything to go by. Prince Charles is the same age (as is Chris) as myself and quite simply I would not want his job. The idea of starting a new job at my age is frightening. Now time to run a bath.

Morning all from a slightly damp Charente.  Went to see the quack yesterday and got the all clear. Just keep taking the tablets.  Shechas no idea when vaccinations will start for tier 2. We did see signs for a vaccination centre at the hospital on Thursday.  

 

After a very pleadant time talking to Emily and her Mums it's been small job time.  Emily has learned a new word, yeah.  We laughed a lot.  

 

The radio/CD player has been refitted in the car.  I'm still trawling for a replacement  CD changer unit.  

 

Not a lot else to report this morning.
