Evenin' each,

I did have one major disagreement with my MiL just before Chris and I got married and I actually told her her fortune because she was a very narrow minded old bat!  After that we mostly got on OK but I often wondered how FiL who was a great bloke never strangled her.  Apparently I was her favourite SiL  (there were 4 of us)  mainly because Chris and I did things like getting engaged, married and having kids in the right order. 

18.00 hours saw us on the doorstep clapping for Cap'n Sir Tom and the NHS.  Very good turn out in our road and those adjacent by the sound of it with bells, trumpets and fireworks as an accompaniment.

Tonight's tipple is a very acceptable Aussie Durif Shiraz from Messrs Laithwaite.

We too did the clap and were happy to hear others join in - truly Sir Tom did  a great mobilising job (pun was not intended).

We went out at 18.00 to clap for The Captain but we were on our own. Pathetic. I shouted to anyone who could here ‘Clap for Captain Tom please’ But, unsurprisingly no one else came out. It was the same when it was the first lockdown and ‘clapping for careers’ .I suppose some people wouldn’t be aware of the initiative but I recon most didn’t want to get wet. Selfish people.
I hope I’ve not offended anyone here as I did earlier in the year on another thread.

Evening everyone.

Great to catch up on what everyone is up to.

 

Had a very long day of not doing too much. But rest is good.

 

I may have a bit of a long game thing going on with internet providers but I'll have to see what's what with that as we could either be without Internet at home for a month or everything will fall into place excellently. Very high risk - eek!

 

Tomorrow is garden day.

Although I can't do anything with the grass as it's potentially going to snow.

I went out and did the Clap, a few neighbours, but not as many as when I lived up in Derbyshire, but we are on a busier Road as opposed to a Cul De Sac.

Never had that problem importing books!  Most of mine come RM/USPS and have never paid a penny for an import fee.

Trouble is with todays clap, it was with very little notice - if you were't listening to Prime Minister's questions, or only list to the ten o'clock news, then it would have passed you by.

i was in the middle of teaching, so it was rather impossible.

I went out to do the clap for Sir Tom but could not hear any clapping from anyone else which given how well supported the "Clap for the NHS" surprised me. I think doing it at 6pm rather than 8pm could have been one factor.

I thought the clap for Capt Tom was Thursday at 8pm must have misread the newspaper website.

 

All snow gone here helped with a bit of maths schoolwork

Sent out to start the car nothing called Rac at 2pm still waiting at 6pm called them back and cancelled going to call tomorrow. Only using them cos it's a new battery and under warranty. 

 

 

Must get round to subscription for RM because its.getting difficult to get it round here

I only heard about it when it was all over, as Chris said set it for 8 rather than 6 would have had more participants.

Regarding my earlier post, my grumble was at the people who live round me. I know they’re in, I know they spend all day reading the papers and listening to the tv and radio. They would have known what’s going off.

I totally agree that it has been organized at very short notice and perhaps 8.00pm would have been a time. Another case of not thinking things through properly. Or is it the government is not wanting  to be accused of indecision .

I’ve never had a problem importing books from the US before, Brian. I do know they’ve come by USPS/Canada Post and by FedEx - I can’t remember if any have come by UPS before. There’s also the point that the local UPS depot I was dealing with does not do well on customer reviews - an overall 1.5 out of 5!

Quite a successful day, lockdown hair cut and fish and chips for tea. 
Went for a walk with SWMBO, Sydney and Mil. Sometimes I get on with Mil better than SWMBO but then again I’m a more relaxed character.

Only one film tonight.

I bought a several Class 66s and some BR MK1s from the UK and never had any customs charges; all were via RM to the USPS. This was a few years ago and the slowest was about 15 days and the quickest was 10 days. I had no complaints.

Good evening everyone 

 

The weather has been a bit mixed today, the morning was dry but it started to rain again this afternoon on and off, but it’s now raining once again. I haven’t gotten as far as I’d have liked to have done with the old chairs, but progress has been made. It became apparent when I started giving one a good clean that they’d been waxed, I’d forgotten I’d done that and typically I’d done a really good job too! The second chair needed quite a bit of filler, as the stringer between the legs looked like it had been chewed by a dog. This may well just be the case, as our first dog was very fond of chewing furniture, particularly wooden furniture, so lots of filler and sanding was done. In between applying and waiting for the filler to dry, the process of removing the wax started on the in earnest on the first chair. By mid afternoon, the first chair was almost done and second has had all the filler applied and sanded and is almost ready. 

 

This afternoon I had a quick trip out to the Trafford Centre to pick up a click and collect order for Sheila, so I earned a few extra brownie points.
