Was watching a guy on You Tube earlier building a 1:200 Bismark the hull is preformed when he got it out of the box you could have used it as a canoe

Rain  more rain and rain has been the order of the day, and occasionally it's hitting the windows now..

 

I've been looking at the legalities of trailer lighting , reflectors etc.

My old trailer board doesn't meet the latest specs as it doesn't have a fog light. This trailer doesn't have brakes so isn't required to have reversing lights.

The oddity is the amount of overhang of the boat at the back. Some versions of what I've read, say I need an auxiliary single red running and brake light at the back end of the overhang. Other versions say I need a 2foot per side triangle with red white hazard markings..

 

Since the old trailer board is ancient, about 40 years since I bought it. I'm going to totally rebuild it, LED lights , fogs and reversing. With a socket for plugging in the auxiliary tail lights.. I'll make a auxiliary tail unit to fit on the boat as well. Pricing up for bits will start tomorrow, I also need some white reflectors for the front of the wheel arches.

 

I must admit I've never heard of, nor had fitted to any car I've driven adjustable dashboard lighting. When you switch on the headlights they come on, and the radio, and clock backlights dim and that's it.

 

It is time  I think to see if I can sleep for more than 4 hours..

For hgv you are allowed upto 2m rearward projection marked by a rag above that it would need to be lit.

How wide is the boat?

You could get canvas marker boards that tie on. 

You can get a triangle one with s red light for rearward projection

I think AZs biggest plant is in the uk but the have one in Holland and one in Belgium. These two are having problems.

I think the issue is if AZ don’t send some vaccines over to the EU then the EU will block the export of vaccines out of the EU and into the UK.

Good evening everyone 

 

Nice to see Dick (Smiffy2) and Pete (Trisonic) dropping by, it’s been far too long. 

 

When I arrived at the butchers this morning, there wasn’t a queue, so I was out of the house less than 40 minutes! I managed to get all that was on the shopping list other than a pastie, they were still n the oven, so I settled for a pork pie instead, ooh it’s a hard life! The Trafford Centre, Like last week was also quite, so again I was only out about an hour. 

 

After the shopping had been packed away, I made muggertea No2 and then continued with redrawing the layout plans. The reason for redrawing the plans is down to the fact that the layout is now going in the cellar. When I first drew the plans up over 30 years ago, the layout was going planned for the attic. The cellar is slightly room is slightly bigger than the attic, but it’s a different shape, hence the need to redraw them. I did the storage area a while back, but I planned some more changes to the scenic area, deciding against a small second station and went for a medium sized engine shed instead. The next phase is to draw up the helix, (which will take the trains from the storage to the scenic sections) in a bit more detail.

Good moaning. I'm even earler than Chrisf, though not through choice.  A mixed day yesterday, logs were cut and later stacked. Beth helped so a general tidy up of the woodshed ensued. We certainly don't need to buy any this year, but if offered some at the rightbprice will probably get it.  I then cut the tiles fir the bathroom. I onlybsnapped one but fortunately  have plenty of spares. In the afternoon I got some photos taken to illustrate an article.  However later after stacking logs, the rooms started revolving again. I really must put groundcanchors on the house. Another 2 episodes took me to bed rather early so I'm awake rather early no.  At least the anchors seem to be working despite the wind and rain.

 

Not a lot on the agenda today but of coursecwe will have our hour talking to Emily and her Mums.

 

I believe that Macron has announced some new restrictions so I'm off to research that.

Yep,  that's what I've read on some sites, but there are oddities to do with boats and those long rowing boats like those used by the university boat race people have their own set of rules.. Boat trailers  in general don't need orange side markers nor forward facing white lights,  however long they are.

 

My boats rear overhang is going to be close to the 2 metre rule and there is some confusion on various web sites about boats .  I've calculated weights positions etc, but I only need to load the boat a few inches aft and the overhang will be over 2 M. I also need to take account of I might not be towing this boat.

 

Commercially that board is more expensive to buy than me buying the lights!! Though if I make the board its of course a lot cheaper. 

 

The width of the boat is not a problem as it's inside the total width of the trailer by  a foot either either side. Its a very narrow sailing boat...

 

The canvas marker boards would be a interesting fit as I'm towing the boat stern first, so it would need fitting to the pointy end.

 

I've seen the commercial boards with lights, quite expensive.. I'll be building my own,

A, because of cost.

B, because I've got to build bracketry to fit it the pointy end anyway.

 

and now for something totally different, i've noticed on Classic FM they've suddenly started advertising "My Pillow" . I'd never heard of it, so looked it up, not on the manufacturers website.

Started in the USA in the 1990s, they are a triumph of marketing over sense. They have been sued several times over their claims and they lost..  The owner donated heavily to trump, and the cheated votes campaign. So I would say no way..

Greetings one and all.  Good to hear from Trisonic and Smiffy2 - don't leave it so long next time, guys!

 

I may not be on full power, or anything like it, for some of the day.  Shortly before 1 am cramp struck at the top of my left leg.  It took a while for the pain to subside and any sleep after that was at best fitful.  Fortunately I plan to spend today quietly, save for some vital cooking.  There is ironing but it may have to wait.

 

With just over a fortnight to go before the proclaimed deadline for those eligible to receive their first Covid jabs, there remains a deafening silence from those who would issue the summons.  It remains to be seen how much longer I will be overlooked.  Perhaps Stalag Surgery has forgotten that I am 72, nearly 73 and a cancer patient - or, as the case may be, impatient!  Meanwhile, current restrictions make it increasingly unlikely that I will be able to travel as I would desire.  There is, however, a crumb of comfort to leaven the dismay.  If I construe the latest issue of Modern Railways correctly, the night sleeper between Nice and Paris may be reintroduced in 2022.   I rather like the idea of that for the journey home after the few days in Nice to which I aspire.  We shall see.

Logic seems to be being applied by moving the jab invites down from 75 year old to 70.. a year at a time so do not dispair @chrisf.

 

Youngest Herbert has been self isolating. He had a test and is now good to gp. Thank goodness for that!

 

Now is the time when everyone needs to stay calm.. and wait... it is hard but mucking around with who gets jabbed when will lead to chaos.

 

As for today... slip chit is clear apart from pumping more water out of our front tranches...pah! After our visit by Yorkshire Water we have heard... nothing. So I may be calling a friend who was very senior in the Environmental Agency to seek advice.

Are there any signs that with so much effort being directed at vaccine production then the supply of other drugs is being affected?

So if UK doesn't send EU vaccine then EU won't send us vaccine?  Bear confused.  No wonder we have global warming.

Bear recalls having a chest x-ray many moons ago; in the waiting room were examples of x-rays showing broken legs, arms etc. as well as things that people have deliberately swallowed:  Razor blades, scalpel blades.....

Good morning all,

Raining with pour here, has been for a couple of hours and will continue to do so for a while.  

Rugby watched and after 10 minutes Bath were 2 tries down and after 20 minutes had lost both 2nd row forwards to failed HIAs.  34-3 at half time and Bristol eventually won 48-3.  Ouch!  Another match to watch this afternoon, Gloucester v Northampton.

Apart from watching rugby will try for a walk if/when the rain stops.  I won't mention The Shed, oops just did.  Every time I do that I don't seem to get there.  Still suffering from an acute case of cantbebotheredititis.

Time to visit the kitchen and sort out some breakfast.

Another overcast, wet and windy start in North Somerset. 

 

Decided to finally sort out the paper albums of small b/w railways prints I purchased many years ago. While dragging them all out of their hidey-hole I discovered that I had already received 50 plastic file pages of 9 photos per side. They were still unopened in the packet that came through the post, together with a box of spring clip folders I must have sent for at the same time.

 

This made life much easier and I am now part way through the process with 25 pages already filled. As the 9-a-side sleeves can hold 18 individual photos, I make that 450 so far - most from the early 1950s. Heaven knows when I will get around to digitising them all, but it looks like excellent lockdown work. 

 

I know I have a large number of postcard sized colour prints somewhere, and they may be next on the agenda, but they will need plastic sleeves of a different configuration. I must browse the Ebay suppliers. 

Will I have enough shelf space for them all? I really do hope so, or SWMBO will be on the warpath.
