RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 29, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 29, 2021 We had a nice chat with Aditi’s brother who lives near Kettering. It was after the end of the school day so lots of noise from our nieces! BiL was at home today, not working from home, he will be working from work(GP practice) tomorrow. The younger child had a craft project to complete. She likes that so no problem. The older one had spellings, grammar (when to use the subjunctive) and PHSE which ended up designing a hotel for a giraffe called Gerald. I will be receiving a couple of the nieces old (their grandfathers) trains to fix if their Dad can get to a Post Office tomorrow. The locos are still feeble after cleaning and lubricating so I will see what I can do. Then we had a chat about how he and his colleagues are coping with the pandemic, especially with patients who have Covid but aren’t in hospital. On Fridays the fish and chip van delivers. Last weeks craft project was make a musical instrument using a box. This week the girls serenaded the fish man with “guitars” made from last weeks fish boxes. He was suitably impressed. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 29, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 29, 2021 Evenin' each, Well that's a result seeing both Pete and Dick paying a visit in the last couple of hours. Don't leave it so long till the next time chaps! Dick, are you still living down the road in the place that cars halt on? Doorbell rang earlier and it was our lovely friend and next door neighbour Alison checking to see if we were OK and bearing flowers for us. She had also been shopping for her Mum and another neighbour who can't get out at the moment. There are some really nice people in this world and we're lucky to know a few of them. Just sitting here twiddlin' thumbs waiting for the Boss to finish watching Emmerdale (I know - why?) and then I can get on with the serious business of rugby. Bristol vs Bath tonight so that could be good. Currently drinking Terra Calda Puglia Primitivo from those very nice Naked Wine people. Very pleasant drop of wine and I'm pleased to say I've got another couple of bottles. I might will pour another glass in a mo before I settle down to watch the match. 18 2

Popular Post jonny777
My 97 year old father had a biopsy on the ear growths a few weeks ago. The results are now available, but the hospital refuse to tell us any details. He has an appointment booked for Wednesday and apparently they will give him the full run down then, which will probably kill him through shock/worry. My brother will go with him, as he lives close, but I am of the opinion he is best not knowing. He refused invasive surgery on a suspected bladder cancer a few years ago, and if it has spread to all his internal organs there is nothing the hospital can do about it, apart from make his last few years a misery, just waiting for everything to fail..... slowly. He seems happy enough shuffling around the care home between bed and the dining table or easy chair, so why not let him eke out his finals years in the best way he can manage. It would seem that the NHS has gone the same way as every other state institution - secrecy is power. 4 1

Sir TophamHatt
So... A little disappointed I didn't negotiate much off the new car. But according to the internet, it's fairly priced. However upon going in to do the paperwork and agree to buy, there's a notice saying they can only do debit cards up to £2500 and credit cards up to £500 - the rest must be bank transfer. I said I'm unlikely to buy as I was planning on putting £4000 / £5000 on the credit card and the rest debit card. He then went away and said the fee for a credit card up to £3000 would be £60, so they will absorb that and allow me to pay a lot more. That makes it a lot easier for me and cash flow. I should have asked for a full tank of diesel at least but I'm rubbish when it comes to this stuff. But at the end of the day, it's done now and I have an updated car. Get this though! Bought current car in 2010 at 4 years old, around 46,000 miles. New car purchased this year, it's also 4 years old and 43,000 miles. Now is the task of reading through the manual. Did it with the old car. Done it with the other family car, now doing it with this one. Seems boring but then I'll know the features of the car inside and out. For example, I was reading earlier that someone said their instrument lights were all of a sudden dim. Turns out they'd pushed the wheel that is usually near the headlights that can dim the dials and internal lighting but didn't know there was even one to do that! What the hell!? That's as basic a feature as electric windows these days! 16

SWMBO didn't feel much up to cooking dinner after having a challenging day dealing with a challenging Dragon-in-Law over the phone multiple times. We ordered fish 'n' chips for delivery from our usual which is barely ten minutes walk away. The order goes via their own website rather than Just East or Deliverude because it's cheaper - there are no hidden fees charged. We got the acknowledgement back pretty much by return confirming "Order placed 17.55; estimated delivery 45-60 minutes" Which I thought reasonable for a Friday evening though they have often been more like 20 - 30. I popped out to the kitchen to open a bottle and pour SWMBO a Gee and Tee and whilst doing do there was a loud knock at the door. Not five minutes from ordering our meals had arrived!!! Not stale from ages in the hot cupboard but obviously not freshly cooked to order in that time. Biked round by the usual employee who knows us now and always calls out a cheery "Thank you Mister Rick" as he walks away from a safely contact-free delivery. Under five minutes from order to delivery must be some kind of record for "takeaway" food. Unless one of us knows different. 24

Some of that going around it seems. My mother's oldest sister was recently diagnosed with a ~7-10cm tumor in her bladder. The prognosis is not good and the cancer has been designated as "incurable". Surgical intervention would require complete removal of the bladder or other alternatives with equally greatly reduced quality of life for an octogenarian whose health has been degrading over the last couple of years with a sequence of serious conditions that began with a post-operative fall in the hospital, while recovering from a successful knee surgery when she decided 'not to bother' the nurses to use the toilet. The family is still adjusting to the news. Coincidentally I am enjoying a weekly video conference with my cousin. Hopefully I can help her either vent or talk about something else, whatever is suitable at the time. 2
