RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Ey up! Snowing here so I am nowbon Beast taking herself tp moreasons this morning. @iL Dottore.. Welsh full breakfast must include larverbread.. and dragon sausages. Full English should include smoked haddock as astarter, and kidneys (fried ) i prefer skinless mice (tinned tomatoes) to fried or grilled ones as these are either undercooked or overcooked. Positive thoughts to all ERs. To all who have relatives and friends with the virus, i hope they return to health asap. Mugatea then.. time to get Beast out. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 (edited) Good morning all, It's been raining all night, still is and will continue to do so for a while yet. Although I normally have a cooked breakfast on Sundays it's not often a full English but usually contains eggs, (fried or poached) bacon, sausage, tomato (never tinned) and toast. Sometimes mushrooms, black pudding and fried bread but never baked beans. Usually have porridge about 4 times a week, boiled eggs or just toast and marmalade on the other days. Sainsbury's have just sent an email advising one substitution, a dearer bottle of wine than one ordered so they'll credit the difference. Not bad as we've ordered quite a lot this week. Have a good one, Bob. Edited January 14, 2021 by grandadbob

Yep it’s definitely better not to know what they eat. These two will eat just about anything. But they lay amazingly delicious eggs.

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Good moaning. It's finally getting light. We had a terrible night last night. Beth had made a cake from a new recipe and I had the arduous job of tasting it. A sponge cake with fruit and a hint of spice. It's a hard life but soneones got to live it. A bit of work got done in the shed so not a bad day in all. I even had a phone call from Dave Hunt. We obvioysly need to plan a joint raidvon the Hippo's cake stache. Anyway a new day needs to be grasped. The ironing beckons and then an 'aspirsteur' called Alexi is due to call to check Beth's CPAP machine. Hopefully some more shed time thi afternoon. I might even use a soldering iron on some wiggly and unruly wires that are supposed to hang straight above some other parallel bits of metal. Great to see Railsquid and the squidlet. Stay safe. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, I'd forgotten about the beans, because I don't like them anyway, from previous research, they are, as ID says, are a no no, even the so called low sugar versions are way too sugary for a diabetic. Out on the road, in years gone by, I used to enjoy a full Scottish, Lorne sausage (the square slabs instead of real sausages) and haggis.. Ben the Alarm clock Collie was on duty and surprisingly he wanted out, surprising because it was chuckinitdarn, he didn't stay out long though, just enough time to do the required.. Roads are flooded to 6 inches in places, there is just nowhere left for the rainwater to go.. The radio womble promises the rain will turn to snow later... Also he was reporting there have been many cliff falls along the north Norfolk coast particularly near Happisburgh as Norfolk gets washed into the sea.. A family was seen trying to climb up a recently fallen cliff .... 5 more have been given £200 fines for coming to see the seals, they were from from Essex and Bedfordshire.. The National Trust have been sending out emails to their members "why not come and visit us?" that went well.. The second major system is well under way, and is currently on a 55 minute Automatic section, giving me time to type this, while the thermometer has repeated 2 minute settling times between measurements.. It's now on post adjustment testing So it might get shipped tomorrow. The ceiling removal men have enclosed their working area with blue plastic, and done other minor preparatory works, including.. putting outside the fire door they are using , a safety barrier..., It's tie wrapped to the metal safety barrier that's permanently there!! Consideration has been made on moving the keel, I need to find the Amber trolley.. It got it's name because the late Rough Collie called Amber used to climb onto it to get towed around at country shows.. She was 14 - 16 at the time.. I'll crane it onto the trolley in the workshop, do a million point turn to get it out of the workshop, tow it down to the boat and crane it off there, I'll cover it with plastic not to keep the water off, but to keep the bird carp off, I don't want to spend ages cleaning the top to get a good bond to the boat.. Well, the equipments have had many more button presses cable changes but I need to do more Time to... get on with it..
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis relented last night but not so the sore foot which seems to come out with the wet weather and its persisting down. I did get about four hours sleep last night thanks to co-codamol. I have found that nurofen is best during the day (morning and afternoon) but co-codamol is better before I go to bed as it makes it easier to get to sleep. I don't take many pills and only when I absolutely have to. Now to run a bath, be back later. 3
Popular Post jonny777
Another dull, wet and miserable morning in North Somerset. On the tricky subject of "rain turning to snow", and donning my pedant's hat. That is only true if time is the exclusive factor. Otherwise it is impossible. Snow is snow; and is the source of most of the rain in the UK. The only variable which matters is the temperature profile between the snow and the ground. If it is sub-zero all the way, the snow remains. If the temperature rises above zero the snow will start to melt. The higher this level (freezing level) above the surface, the more likely it will all melt and fall as rain at ground level. In summer months the freezing level can be 7000-10000ft, and not a problem; but as this lowers to (say) 500-100ft in winter, the prediction of how much will melt before reaching the ground is fraught with danger. Especially so, as melting snow needs latent heat for the process, and the only source is the surrounding air. In other words, snow melting as it falls will lower the freezing level; and if that is only 500ft to begin with, it can steadily become 0ft resulting in what appears to be "rain turning to snow", but strictly speaking is snow not melting. Now to fire up the slide scanner..... Edited January 14, 2021 by jonny777 12 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 Hello all. It is raining here. Apart from another trip to Canvey Island to have some blood taken I don’t see much happening today. We usually have shopping delivered on Thursday but it will be on Saturday this week (slot availability a couple of weeks ago when booking apparently). Popular Post iL Dottore
As promised (albeit rather late in the discussion) a few of my books (I haven't included those in my model railway room/workshop). Top Down: Attic Office (partly shown) Spare Room: Library/Home Cinema There's a few "mini" bookshelves on either side of the window. The grey covered monolith is my HIWATT Amp and Cab Finally, the drawing room I've lost track of how many books I have. At last count well over 3000 - 4000 (and that was about 5 years ago) The only place without bookshelves are the master bedroom and the Waschkuche (the front cellar with washing machine, boiler etc.) I am planning on a library sort-through, although I hate getting rid of books (the last time I had a clear out - about 10 years ago - was when I got rid of all the Conan books, except the first and all the Dune books - again except for the first. But it hurt, it really hurt!) iD Edited January 14, 2021 by iL Dottore 19 1 2

Popular Post andyram
Morning all and generic greetings to one and all. Particular thoughts to those who need them - Andy.B I am sorry to hear of the issues at the care home and hope things improve soon. The talk of the good old fashioned English breakfast pulls up wishful thoughts of the preserved Great Central Railway and their offering on the griddle car. I am sure many will have sampled it - Lincolnshire sausage, bacon, egg, beans, mushrooms, fried potato, tomato, black pudding (which I admit I like), fried bread and toast. All served as the steam hauled train ambles its way through the Leicestershire countryside. This is usually partaken with a large coffee on the first trip of the day, with a real ale enjoyed on a later train. It is galling to think that is now 12 months since I last enjoyed such a delicacy. It is one of the many things I have missed as we continue the battle against this dreadful disease. As a volunteer TTI on the GC, the line is one of my regular haunts and visits usually number well into double figures each year. There are the midweek ticket collecting turns, the family visits (usually for the family friendly events) and the solo trips where I head over for a few hours of peace and a chance to unwind. All of those have been taken away. I have not done a single TTI turn in 14 months and have not managed a solo visit since summer 2019 when I attended the last model show. Family visits have been restricted to the Paw Patrol event in February, a visit to the Quorn field to watch a test run in May, a non-running day family visit to Quorn tea room in early summer and then the socially distanced Santa train in late December. I long for the day that I can get back there to work, and also to sit peacefully with a breakfast processing my thoughts and relaxing. Last September I did manage to get one such trip. Rewarding myself for a very good month in the shop with a solo trip on the Severn Valley. I admit the compartment ticket for one was pricy. However, the day out was wonderful. Time to myself, undisturbed in the compartment, a full day on the train - a beer on the concourse at Kidderminster, coffee and cake on the balcony at the Engine House. I felt so much better for it. I am sure many of us have our own ways of coping with the pressures of the world. People, such as myself, who also fight the black dog, may relate to the those places or activities which are our bolt hole and allow us to cope. I hope that whatever that is, you are able to find someway of replacing that time and getting the space you need to enjoy some kind of peace and reflection. For me, today there are some orders to dispatch and other items to collect from the shop to fulfil further orders. The quietness of a coffee in the shop, with door locked, may not quite be the Severn Valley or GC but it will have to do for now and after yesterday.....I need it! Stay safe all Andy 7

Still snowing and the roads are a bit slippery. Even with AWD Beast struggled on one corner.. luckily I was only doing about 10 miles an hour. Most drivers driving sensibly but a white van man could come a cropper.. driving flat out then.. slamming on the brakes. He went across a mini roundabout and a road junction pah! Sri Lanka have managed various strange ways of getting themselves out. Now on mugadecaff 2. Nothing else planned for today. Baz
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 A very wet morning on Fraggle Rock, it has been sipping down all night, a lot of standing water in the garden and 'yellow rain' warnings being given on Frag-o-Weather radio. A sweltering 5c so I'm not sure what happened to the increase in temperature following the front passing over. Mrs H in the kitchen/diner working away on highly confidential work matters so I am banned, access to the kettle on a timetabled system. Working from home is all well and good, but it is costing a fortune in heating (I don't have it on after breakfast on my own) and power, as well as disruption to my routine. Its too cold down in the garage to get on down there, the heater can only do so much! Another 8 cases yesterday, they are hoping this will be about the peak here, only one ill enough to be in hospital. Mrs H's reaction to the jab (Pfizer) was a bit of a headache that evening and a slightly sore arm, her boss is quite ill with it and looks dire on Zoom. He's usually as bouncy as Tigger (he's a Ginge too!) so must not be well at all. His boss, (the PIA) hasn't reported in or said how they are, likely hiding at home watching the telly. Not unusual....
Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup, where it is raining - so much so that Mrs Lurker has reluctantly taken the car to school today - she is trying to do a sponsored 10,000 steps a day each day for a month and the walk to and from school gives her around 15,000. I can report that the first slice of Christmas cake was delicious! We have just had another Amazon call suggesting prime is about to be charged for. It comes on the home phone and none of us use that as our account contact number! I have also had a text suggesting i have a rebate due from HMRC - just follow the link. Sadly I know i have to pay them a four figure sum and the payment is arranged for 31 Jan. Anyway, have a good day; stay dry, stay well.
Popular Post Kelly
Morning all. I've not posted for a while here, so thought I'd share a bit of an update. Life has been hard these past few months. Richard suffered a detached retina in late July, thankfully the surgery in August was successful, but not enough to restore vision suitable for driving (he had detached retina the previous July in the other eye and a further surgery on that eye due to a hole in the retina/macular, sadly that second surgery wasn't a success, and with the other eye detaching, no further surgery is likely to restore vision in that eye). I've been having to do all the driving since March (with a bit of respite between late May and late July) and it has taken its toll on my health as a result. Kinda feel I'm just existing between driving him to and from work at present. He hopefully will have a cataract operation in February, which will hopefully mean I can take a break from driving around March, so an end in sight hopefully. It is not all bad however, despite these challenges (and the challenges everyone has been facing with the pandemic of course) we have had Poppy to keep us going. She wouldn't leave his side after his operations and has been a trooper in moral boosting. Christmas was a rather quiet affair, with us both deciding Poppy would get the most spent on her rather than each other.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Foden Posted January 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2021 (edited) After ~15 years of forum membership maybe it’s time to pop my early risers cherry... Not that it’s a particularly early rise for me today, eventually creeping out of bed at 9am. Sadly I returned a positive COVID test on Tuesday after feeling a little rough the day before, so it’s isolation for me, the wife, and much to their disgust three unrelenting dogs. We’re both fine I hasten to add, with me feeling only mildly groggy, and the wife showing no signs to speak of. Weather here in Burbage, Leicestershire is pretty grizzly to say the least, but a full day of railway modelling lies ahead, once the dogs have been walked*, and last night’s washing up taken care of! Have fantastic day guys and girls, do stay safe. * ten laps around a rather soggy garden, but beggars can’t be choosers!
