With it 8+ inches deep she often is almost entirely buried in her attempt to get whatever she can smell! One Christmas Eve I was in our local park with Robbie. He was off the lead as it was completely deserted. He runs off some distance from the path into some bushes and there was some frantic digging and he returns with a wallet. There was money and a driving licence. I had a quick look to make sure he hadn’t found a body, as his favourite thing to investigate and roll in was deceased creatures. This is such a peaceful area finding a police station to hand it in was a problem. I didn’t really want to go to Basildon or Rayleigh but there was still a Community Police desk at the old Canvey Island Police Station where I persuaded the receptionist to deal with it. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 I did mention this morning that nothing exciting was forecast to happen. We had a sonic boom. Aditi thought next doors had dropped something really heavy. It was the RAF. Apparently going supersonic over Cambridge heading for Stansted to intercept a private plane from Germany. I wonder if the pilot who hadn’t turned on the transponder gets the Typhoon fuel bill?

I managed to acquire various bumps and bruises falling off motorbikes or down stairs or diy related injuries. They all seemed to heal nicely but once I was past 40 (now many years ago) I started to notice twinges in those places. Not sure if bears respond similarly to injury but... Both paws, and no injuries as such - though some months ago I do wonder if I did them a heap of no good trying my very hardest to remove the lid on a giant jar of beetroot (I know about the lever trick now....). That episode is what started the vet consultation and blood tests..... 4

I really don't mind squirrels in the garden, as they appear only on an occasional basis and don't do any damage as far as I can see. You're welcome to ours. Non-hibernating, ultra-destructive, hole-in-lawn-digging, pot-plant evicting, food-scrap-burying non socially-distanced critters by the dozen. In other news I spent a while this afternoon fitting a new mattress. Those who might have browsed my "Waddlemarsh" topic may have become aware, because of images posted there, that the bed is a cabin-style double something like five feet up from the floor with a part of the layout and all of the office space beneath it. So getting the old one down wasn't too bad. Getting it out around various corners was also achieved without pain or blue air. It now resides side-on upon the Terrace awaiting removal which is booked for Monday next. I wonder what the evil squirrels will make of that. The new one was much more of an operation to place. Open box. Do not remove contents (as it said on the large card just inside) but instead take box to the bedside. Hmmmm. Not five feet up though. The box also said "Two Person Lift" and there's only one of me. Dr. SWMBO is not capable of lifting anything much more than a tea-cup these days and we are not having anyone else inside (emergency tradespeople excepted, if required) until we are vaxed and the worst has past. So the box was placed at the base of the steps up to the bed. The Gwiwer was placed atop said steps with a good grip on the plastic wrapper. And - HEAVE - and - HEAVE - and OH blast it, this isn't going to lift up and I'm now above it and unable to get down beneath it to push. After a good deal of hufflepuff (with apologies to Ms. Rowling) I shifted position slightly and grasped the outer bag about halfway down. I know the risks associated with heavy lifting. And especially with a lift-and-twist move. I have done those courses numerous times and was once a workplace HaSaW officer. But when needs must ...... All the hufflepuff finally resulted in enough movement that I got the thing to slytherin (sorry) to the frame and into the require position. I then had to get the outer wrapper off! That was achieved with the supplied piece of moulded plastic containing a sharp blade - we'll call it a raven claw (ouch) - and I was able to pull the wrap off with a fair degree of difficulty. That then went back into the now empty box which was promptly taken outside the gr-effin-door (where IS that groan button???) and placed for collection alongside the old mattress. All that remains is for me to make the bed and shower off the goo which the exertion caused. Magic!!! There's a 200-day return and 10-year product guarantee but neither of those assure me of a decent night's kip. I'll let you know how it goes. It has to be better than a block of IKEA foam which has all the memory of a caravan site midweek in midwinter G'night all. 4 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. The new shower hose is a bit longer than the old one by about two feet and nearly touches the bottom of the bath. The old one will be left out for the metal faries tomorrow but I'll remove the shower head and keep it as a spare. Time to put the kettle on, be back later. 18

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 12, 2021 I did think today wouldn’t have much excitement but in addition to the sonic bang earlier we had a new addition to our diet this evening, kale and turnip stir fry. It was an interesting accompaniment to the sausage and mash. 14 2 1

As I have said before ERs in earlier versions of the forum often mentioned their modelling activity as part of a description of how they had spent their day. Not specific wiring or woodwork posts just what they had done (spent hour ripping up track or plastering scenery etc) It seemed silly to me that not mentioning what you had spent the morning doing was not suitable for this thread. Someone posting the occasional railway related image isn’t necessarily about the actual train, it may be because it made them happy. G'night all My mother couldn’t understand why my younger brother’s mattress needed replacing before mine. He used to get on top of wardrobe, land on his bed and backflip onto the floor. He also used to stand on the landing bannister, jump onto a window ledge halfway down the stairs and land at the bottom of the stairs. No idea why. I am sure he could have been a gymnast but he hated sports at school. 21

Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Not a lot to report today except to say nephews had to come round for the day as Bil and Sil had to go into work. Bonus was Sydney’s come for a sleepover. Swmbo went to opticians while I went to the supermarket for top up. Got some gf beer for myself but decided that I’d better give the raspberry vodka a miss as it seems to go down far quicker than the UKs chief medical officer would recommend. Of my special interest societies I’ve only managed to get one sorted, the others I need to find my membership numbers. Tomorrow, well a walk for Sydney and hopefully I’ll get some bookwork done and get the books balanced and perhaps some more subscriptions sorted. A bit of shed time would be nice but I think that will be pushing it. Goodnight, Robert 21
Popular Post andyram
Evening all, it has been a while again. I hope that today finds you well as physically and as mentally as possible. I am not sure I have posted since the full lockdown was imposed on us residents of good old England. This presents many challenges for us all and does not help the fight with the black canine. I liken lockdown to a long and endless underwater tunnel with the occasional chance to surface for air. For us, Amber is off school. In fairness, they are very organised. She has to log in each morning for a 9.45 registration on “Zoom”. The teacher then outlines the work which is completed via an online learning platform. There are three activities each day 1English, 1 Maths and 1 other subject. The work is completed electronically and posted for marking on the platform for the teacher to view. Most lessons involve some video to watch prior to completing the marked activity. Amber is good at completing the tasks although often needs help with some of them. That takes up much of my mornings. Sarah is still working every morning because the nursery is open. None of the staff feel comfortable with this but until the government decide to close nurseries they have to remain open or not get paid! The worries are bringing on Sarah’s own black dog. For me, I spend my mornings trying to help Amber whilst also marking the adult education assignments which have come as a flood. This is alongside the management of the shop which has also become busy with online and telephone orders. Oh..and the list of house jobs that Sarah wishes me to complete. Hence the drowning analogy from earlier! Not that I am complaining about the shop orders. The continuing improvement in the business brings me some satisfaction that maybe, just maybe my career change was the correct one. Current escapes are to the post office to dispatch orders. With our local one shut due to a Covid outbreak this involves trip further afield, often en-route to Matlock Bath to collect stock or accept deliveries. A quiet coffee in the shop may just be my moments of air! Finally, if that has not bored you all, a Twitter welcome to Chris. I have followed you sir and give you a gentle push in the direction of A2B Model Railways page. I have to admit this is the least used or the main social media platforms with Facebook being the main one. I have found Instagram recently although this is only useful for the decoration that the latest postings by certain Australian singers provide! Stay safe!
