RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted December 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 26, 2020 My very nice sister in law, Emma said when she meets other Emma’s of a similar age they are frequently Emma Louise or Emma Jane. She has Louise, as her older sister is Sarah Jane. There were certain quite ordinary names not on the list when we were selecting baby names. Not because of the name but because they had belonged to really horrible students. Wr called our dog Robbie as it was similar to the first part of his pedigree name. Matthew wanted to call him “Dave”. The veterinary nurse was very pleased as she said that Dave’s are always naughty. Tony

These are Danish round pancakes, with icing sugar and jam, cooked in an Æbleskiver pan. Glædelig Jul (Merry Christmas) Poly 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted December 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 26, 2020 Oh gosh they look nice......and banned to a hungry diabetic! Evening folks, no early check in due to being unable to get out of bed after an atrocious night. After that it was over to the western reaches of Fraggle Rock to Peel, to have lunch with John (Trackshack's ex-owner) and his new partner, which was very convivial. It is very windy indeed here now, still dry though, but that is set to change. 19

When my elder son started primary school, mid-2000s, if you stood in the playground at home time and shouted "Jane", a full one-third of the mothers would respond. Very handy when you couldn't remember someone's name - one-in-three chance of being right - almost as good as the Matts. Very many of them had two daughters, the elder called Sophie and the younger, Emily. 12 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Despite oversleeping a bit of eyelid inspection has taken place. The sore foot is a little better helped by the application of voltarol cream. Just eaten the last of the stollen, I started it Christmas eve and it was not expected to last through to the end of Christmas day but it made it to Boxing day but has now expired. 15

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2020 I think you'd need a primer for all the different names in my classes at school. Though they were all common names, no coats with same name. My brother and sisters have blends of previous generations names, I've never met anyone with my first name nor am I likely to which sometimes leaves me with dis temper. 5

The truth - for what it might now be worth - is that our grammar school art teacher, who was a potter first, a retired CCF officer second, golfer third and anything else much farther down the list, suffered my presence a half-dozen times After which he opened the door and bid me leave with the helpful and supportive advice (as one might expect of a teacher) that “Boy - you’re a ham-fisted clot with a pencil; God help you if you ever picked up a paintbrush. Never darken my doorway again”. And that was the sum total of my formal education in art. Six 40-minute classes in 1968 during which I probably received five minutes of individual attention in total. I never touched pencils, paints nor other artistic materials again until I began building Penhayle Bay in earnest over 40 years later. I still receive fairly regular enquiries as to “where did you get you backscenes” to which the answer is “from a selection of paintbrushes, a leap of faith and no idea of what I was doing.” I reckon I came out evens at least. 14 8

He made public the evidence of possible cannibalism and was shunned as a result, largely through the efforts of Franklin’s widow. 3 1

Not long after I joined RMWeb there was an exhibition at Romford. Of course those exhibiting said to say hello. Some others said we should meet. One of the most prolific posters at that time used the name “Fatso”. He said it would be easy to recognise him as he would be in a wheelchair. Just try finding a form of words to identify which chap in a wheelchair was Fatso without getting thrown out of the exhibition. I think RMWeb badges become popular afterwards. 17

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted December 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 26, 2020 Hunt the Wren is a very strong tradition here, and was followed today due to the rather better CV19 situation here. In other news, the anchors have been deployed, but I think Fraggle Rock is drifting southwards in this wind. It is officially not nice out here. 10 1

How true!, even US TV had marvellous variety specials with big names and were actually entertaining and something to look forward to. Sadly most of the big names have died off leaving so called specials in the realm of one song wonders who will be forgotten next year. PBS is our only sane network these days who show some decent shows, albeit a lot of repeats of repeats. Of course, theres always FOX, famous for its female presenters with short skirts and blonde hair and for being a Trump mouthpiece!
