Good evening everyone 

 

Thank you all for the supportive and positive ‘likes’ to this afternoon’s post, it really does help. Well, after all the excitement of this morning’s phone call, there hasn’t been a lot done since. Mainly letting family and friends know the good news, followed by a little reading etc. During my conversation with one of the oncologist’s team, it was mentioned that they may need to alter and change my treatment in a few years time. This apparently is due to my ‘young’ age (her words not mine). This is due to the fact that the younger you are when you’re diagnosed with prostate cancer, the more aggressive it is. I was 55, quite young for this disease (again there words not mine)  when first diagnosed and apparently mine was a particularly aggressive type, so whatever it is they are doing, it does seem to be working. 

 

 

After tea this evening, we went round to Vickie’s and dropped off their Christmas presents. We chatted for a few minutes (at a safe distance) and Sheila was able to see the grandkids for the first time since March, she couldn’t believe how much they’ve grown. At a guess, I’d say Ava, Evie and Max are now all taller than Sheila, mind you Sheila’s only 5ft so it’s not really surprising.

Awhile back, I think I mentioned wanting to do something in the porch to bring a bit of cheer to our delivery people.  The fairy lights, finally, turned up this morning so, a quick raid of the *C* decorations box, a drape once used when exhibiting Avago, and an ex-exhibition badge holder, a quick print job and hey presto, done...and enough of the string lights to go round the window to the left of picture.

 

 

That was followed by sorting out the click n collect groceries.  Loose fruit and veg were replaced by those in   packs and Ray's mince pies (Tesco Finest) were replaced with Mr K's, and we also had a complementary Tesco ordinary pack.  No Satsumas so sweet clems instead. I did wonder how I was going to get both the turkey crown and leg of pork in the fridge. However, the pork was in a plastic box, a lot bigger than it needed to be but ideal for putting the turkey crown, conveniently in a tray, on top.  Sorted!

Then dinner, followed by the watching of--nodding off to Father Brown and Death in Paradise before I put the marzipan on the *C* cake. Ready for bed now with thoughts turning to icing the *C* cake tomorrow...

3.5 hours sleep wake up change position roll over to the sound of howling winds and rain , think another long night is coming..then fall asleep for another 3.5 hours so that's good. Still very windy but less rain.

 

Another good thing I've just noticed ..no pain from my back...

 

Ben the snoring Collie is asleep in his bed I'd have expected him to be hiding in his cage with the noise from the wind.

 

So plans for today, 

Breakfast, Tes and co raid, turn the keel around. Then decide what's next to do, depending on time, under shelf partition and  or sand the other side of the keel.

Good moaning from The Charente. The wind is moaning quite well outside. The buildervis only doing half a day today and for one I think that he has been supplied with everything that he is likely to need, so no expeditions to DIY stores are in prospect.  

Yesterdays expeditions went well. The replacement  tiles were got and the shopping was shopped in the afternoon. Some friends called and mince pies and gallete, a brioche cake, were consumed.  

 

This morning we are due to head for the market as cakes have to be purchased. This afternoon various donestic tasks will be performed, but morning orders have not yet been posted so I have no idea what will be the highest priority.

 

The step dragon in law was spoken to last night. She has decided not to go down to Bedford as it's now in tier 4. 

 

Brian, very good news on the PSA front. Long may it continue. Good to hear from our resident Leopard as well, what with a Hippo,  bear and of course Donk we have quite a menagerie.

Greetings one and all and the compliments of the festive season!

 

I had a lovely surprise yesterday.  The doorbell rang.  When I opened the door there was nobody there but on the step were three bottles of beer - Fullers London Pride, Fullers Bengal Lancer and Courage Directors - and a card from one of the bunch of mates that I meet in Ampthill on May Day to enjoy the morris dancing and carry out quality control checks on the real ale in the local pubs.  We could not do that this year but we had a token brief encounter instead.  I must admit to having felt a bit gloomy earlier in the week but that kind, thoughtful and totally unexpected present more than makes up for it!

 

Earlier yesterday morning the trip to Tesco left me still in need of cloves for the ham that I will be cooking today.  [Ooh, Matron!  Oh, cloves! I thought you said clothes!  Stupid boy …]  The in-store music was less appealing than on Monday but there’s only so much in the way of seasonal sounds out there.  Making up for that deficiency in spades was a clip I found on Facebook – a version of East 17’s “Stay Another Day” by the South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus.  If this unhappy world should ever return to something approaching normal I hope to see them do it live at Pride Cymru in August 2021.  Gosh!  That’s something to anticipate eagerly but I mustn’t tempt providence.

 

Later today there will be culinary adventures in the kitchen.  Before that I need to scoot into town to get a statement from the bank and move some money around.  The early payment of one of my pensions was no doubt kindly meant but it has caused a problem which is easily rectified.

I have been informed that other than cooking duties I am stood down from other housework duties. Wooooppppiddddooo!

 

I had a long chat with an old friend last night. We worked together at JET in Culham. Before lockdown 1 he moved house.. hopefully we will be able to visit him next year.

 

Time to drink my tea.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. A genuine early riser this morning, though I might go back to bed for another hour or two. I gave my friend a call yesterday and gave permission for his lad to open his pressie. The reason was it was one of those things that has to be charged by connecting it to a computer which is something my friend does not have. However it can connect through an X-box so I hope to hear if it works later today. Thats it for now, be back later.

The garden is awash, we've lived here 21 years and it's never been this deep in water before..

 

The local news has just come on and its leading with flooded roads including the A11 and the A47, we don't need HMG to put us in Tier 4, nature has done the task, with the two major roads closed. This may mean the raid on  Tes and co may be a failure, it depends on where the milk comes from.

I'm glad that I done the 'big shop' yesterday. At one time going to Tess Coes on Christmas Eve to get a few bargains was the usual thing but now I don't bother as there was already some empty shelves yesterday.

Yes, it took Bear a bit of practice to perfect that one too.  The 360 degree inverted spin is still a "work in progress"......

Tail Gunner - and very good at it too.  So anyone thinking of sneaking up on the cake stash from the blind side (the "blind side" of a Hippo being - how shall I put it - substantial....) should think again.  However, Donk did tuck us up good n' proper with his contract; he's paid a small retainer plus a hefty bonus (i.e. all he can eat) for every attack foiled.  We did think that carrots would be his food of choice, however he seems to have developed a very unhealthy appetite for certain varieties of cake.  If he discovers LDC then I can foresee an urgent need to renegotiate terms.

In other news:

Bear has been working on the kitchen design (I never realised that such aspects could have so many options) though I suspect it'll be some time before I have the nerve to press the "order" button.  If only I could decide on what sort of worktop to have.  Laminate?  Wood?  Some sort of Stone?  Lost

 

The radio news seems convinced that a "deal" will be announced today.  Bear is willing to bet a slice of LDC that we will get tucked up good n' proper, having been freaked by the events of the last few days at a certain Kent Port and the prospect of a re-occurrence in the future, albeit for different reasons.

Good morning all and festive greeting to each and everyone,

It was a very wet and windy night here but the rain has stopped.  The forecast claims that it will be a dry, mostly fine day with plenty of sunshine and brisk northerlies.  Good Oh!

Bins are out out ready for collection, only one lorry today and they're running later than usual.  

Everything is in place here for "the big day".  Plenty of food and drink in stock and of course I haven't forgotten presents for The Boss.  They were all wrapped a week ago. 

We have a total of three Zoom  sessions booked with family,  two tomorrow and one on Boxing Day.

Friends next door keep checking up that we are OK and have everything we need (as of course have kids and grandkids)  A socially distanced drink is planned tomorrow with neighbours from our respective gardens.

Other than that there is nothing left for me to do today except drive the Dyson around for a bit and then it will be on with the drinking and making merry!  Oh and watch Albert Finney's Scrooge later this afternoon.

Morning.  A rather chilly one, dry but 3c with a strong wind that makes it 'feel like' Ian Abel's back yard.  No walk, therefore.

 

We got all that rain yesterday, but it has drained off OK, ig, a friend of Donk's in Alconbury is posting worrying photos of flooding down there.  Some may know his owner in the garden railway world, Tac Foley.  Another of those who served their country. Tac, not ig.....

 

Debs is off to work early, as freedom of information requests wait for no woman, and they seem to have doubled in both volume and stupidity of late.  Early finish probably isn't on the cards either.  

 

So a day of housework beckons, cleaning up after Donk (which takes some doing), then putting the bottle of Cloudy Bay in the fridge for Debs' eventual arrival home.  She seldom drinks alcohol, but this is one day when she does so we have a treat.  Rather more expensive than we would usually buy, but its only once a year.

Morning all,

Todays weather is not surprisingly similar to NHNs.  It is clear so far today, so we can see the snow on Snaefell from our living room, with a very grey and choppy sea in between.  We might venture out for a walk today, but I still have a sore foot, so it won’t be a long one.
