RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted December 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 23, 2020 Morning all. I am envious of those who have managed to have their ears lowered. There must be a joke about Wahls having ears in their somewhere but I can’t find it. Why am I envious I hear you ask. My last appointment was cancelled just before we went into the last lockdown and then we had the dreaded lurgy and so were isolating and to be honest I just haven’t had the energy or desire to rebook since then. Still, in honour of the season, I booked an appointment for yesterday and just as I was about to leave the house I double checked. Day. Check. Time. Check. Date. Err.... it was for the 29th rather than the 22nd. Flipping online booking systems. I told Valerie that she had married an idiot. She didn’t disagree. Regarding the lurgy... if you lose your sense of taste over the next few days, don’t worry. It could be that you are just eating turkey. Sage advice I think. Have a good day folks.. and if you have yellow rain, stay dry. On the outside at least. 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted December 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 23, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. The sore foot seems to have gone into hibernation, still gives the odd twinge but not that often, hope it stays that way over the festivities. Got to do the last bit of shopping today, a few items that are not 100% absolutely essential (more like 1%) but I will need more milk and bread. If your still having turkey for Christmas there are plenty of bargains to be had and even my choice of Christmas dinner, venison has dropped in price so I might get some to freeze. 20

Popular Post Erichill16
THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN POSTED LAST NIGHT BUT BATTERY FAILED Evening All, spent most of the day either at work or doing errands for work but did get some fish and chips for tea and Sydney is here for a sleepover. After being on my feet most of the day and then taking Syd for his evening walk my ankle and foot are aching. This time last year swmbo and myself had just arrived in Trondheim, Norway for cruise along the Norwegian coast. We had booked it as a way of retreating from the stress of spending Christmas at home. just had a warning that the battery is nearly flat so i will bid you all goodn Edited December 23, 2020 by Erichill16 ADD FIRST SENTANCE 5
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning, fires lit, purple bin put away, so my domestics for the day done(I hope), talk of seasonal goods, not that my memory is likely to be 100 percent, but exotics at Christmas were those long packets of Dates from Egypt, tinned Cape fruit from South Africa(I don't think we had heard of the word Apartheid) and fresh Oranges, we only got tinned ones the rest of the year. Fruit and veg came from the greenhouse in the large nursery at the back of our house, so what ever they could grow we had and finally my favourite, nuts with their shells on, now we used to find a few wild Hazlenuts, but Brazils were very exotic. 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted December 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 23, 2020 Bear's visit to the Orange Shed was successful, for the most part. At first it looked like the size of plywood I wanted was OOS, but a second look revealed two sheets hiding right at the back - one of which had Bear's name on it. However, cutting was only partially successful; at first the guy said I could only have four cuts, with no option to pay for extra's as they used to do (I wanted 8 cuts - all 50mm wide strips). So i went with the four; in fairness the guy showed signs of relenting and tried for extra cuts but it seems the board width was now too small to safely cut, so four it was. I'll have to do the rest with the circular saw. Petrol bought, a quick raid of the very local Travis Perkins and then the Co-op. The latter was particularly successful, as they had a Lemon Drizzle Cake ("Soft, delicate lemon sponge topped with lemon curd and sweet Sicilian lemon drizzle icing" ) with a best before reduced label on it. Two quid? That most definitely had Bear's name on it, and will do nicely as a chrimbo cake . Hopefully it'll still be around by then, as naturally I'll just have to start scoffing it tonight as it's dated today. It's a tough job, but rest assured that Bear will be thinking of you all as it slides down..... 23
Popular Post Coombe Barton
Grey - rain - still knack tired from yesterday's 100 plus mile drive. Haven't done that distance in a day since coming back from holiday, and then that was largely motorway. Get up and go has truly got up and went, and I still haven;t got the tree up - it's in the garden at the moment awaiting furniture moving and clearance of space. But had toast, stilling with a mug of coffee and plotting. 18

Popular Post Simon G
Morning all, yesterday’s appearance of the bright orb in the sky has been replaced by the more traditional wet stuff falling from the sky. Just as well we don’t really want to go out today! A rather pleasurable indoor task is underway as I type this. We have made some sloe gin, ie the gin has been soaking in sloes for 3 months, and it is time to separate the gin from the sloes. It is a rather slow (no pun intended!) task, as to make the resultant drink nice and clear, it needs to be filtered. As I only have a small kitchen funnel and small 6 inch filter papers, it takes a long time. A brief sample of the results has been done and it is well up to standard! Last nights shopping expedition to the metropolis of Whitehaven didn’t go entirely to plan. We arrived at the Aldi car park at about 6.30pm, and there was barely a space to be had. We went and had a look in another supermarket, but didn’t get all we wanted, to returned to Aldi just past 7pm. It was still heaving. Social distancing was just a joke, so we rushed around as fast as we could and got out again. At least we got all we needed. 12

Sounds like the ghost of my Christmas past... Only no glasshouse.. Forecast Yellow rain with possible yellow wind later, only its not yellow it's getting on the edge of white rain...it's a bit sleety. Beep beep beep rumble Oh you get the idea it's still happening .. Two doors assembled and fitted from bits I made yesterday, the next task was to fit a under shelf partition, and support for the dust collector bin. But that's at floor level so will not be done today to save my back. So I got the angle grinder out fitted it with a flap wheel, and took off any extraneous lumps off the keel before using the sander on the side I could see. With the keel up on blocks, I didn't have to bend over much. Later another coat of glassfibre will be applied. But now having removed hat, gloves, facemask goggles, I'm having a Muggacoffee in the house while the dust settles. However Brown eyes is giving me the hint its time for his long walk.. so it will be water proofs on and time for paddle.. 20

Here I've just got back from another excursion to Angouleme. 90 mile round trip. Paul the builder opened the last two boxes of tiles and discovered damaged corners on 4 or 5 in each box of 16. He only needed 10 more to finish so there was no way round it if I wanted to keep him working. Now coffee has been had and lunch is now due. Popular Post 5 C
Morning awl from Tier 4. Yesterday was spent planning my first Christmas Day alone. I always anticipated it happening one day, just not under these circumstances. I briefly toyed with the idea of an anti-Christmas: eating and doing as many unfestive things as possible. It didn't appeal and the sight of several decent bottles of red in the wine rack started me thinking. So the main event will be roast beef with an attempt at Yorkshire pudding plus all the usual accompaniments. A trip to Aldi yesterday sorted everything including a single portion Christmas pudding, brandy butter and one of the last two boxes of their mince pies which apparently are this year's must have. There and the other places I visited seemed relatively calm with no signs of panic buying or other lunacy. Breakfast is also taken care of. I have a couple of Staffordshire Oatcakes in the freezer, so they along with bacon, egg, mushrooms and black pudding will start the day. Depending on the weather, a walk may take place and a Zoom call with parents and aunt in Staffordshire is scheduled for 9pm. In other news, I've upped the exercise regime over the last few days. This is clearly have a positive impact as I managed to sleep through a Royal Mail delivery earlier, which means a trip to the delivery office tomorrow. I suspect they used the door knocker rather than the bell which is guaranteed to be heard. A muggertea is next on the agenda and then I need to set about some bits of housework. Regards to awl. 1
Popular Post Rugd1022
If Rog and Tone were tackling this awful covid malarkey they'd have no doubt despatched the darned thing into oblivion by the first advert brake, then jumped into the Aston and the Dino for a spirited blast down to the south of France to meet up with some jolly fine womenfolk and a dry Martini.... RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 23, 2020 I’ve had my telephone consultation a member of staff from ‘The Christie’ earlier this morning and after talking to the kids, I thought I’d post my results on here. In September my PSA had risen to 16.43, having been 15.26 the previous month. The blood test I had yesterday has revealed that this has now dropped to 0.27. I was expecting the results to be slight lower, maybe 12.5 or so, but not as much as that. So the Zoladex does seem to be doing what it says on the tin, both Sheila and I are delighted, we both see it as a bit of an early Christmas present. 11 12

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted December 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 23, 2020 I have restored the ancient food processor to full working order. It was worth the wait and several hundred Pounds cheaper than an equivalent replacement. I had found a couple of extra hints and tips for removing the broken nylon spindle without violence (use of hairdryer ) but they didn’t work so it was crush (used Mole wrench) and split (screwdriver and rubber mallet). Even now misusing a tool like a screwdriver reminds me of Dad’s disapproval of tool abuse. The food processor was worth saving. I know there are probably better professional models but in fact this Magimix has the same motor as some of the brand’s professional versions. Just a more stylish (well it was stylish in 1970s France) outer case. I was quite pleased as at the end of the instructions it mentioned using a smear of food quality grease. Fortunately I had a tube with some in leftover from when I replaced the motor in our Kenwood Chef a few years ago. 25
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted December 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 23, 2020 (edited) A'noon, apologies for being late on parade, I have a note. Task of the day was to take Mrs NHN (AKA my Opinion) to the hospital for another check up on her continuing eye condition. The trip up the mountain road to the Big City produced this.... Pah! Still, we got there in time, and the result was very good indeed. We obviously rubbed the same good luck charm as Brian, the eye issues that we were told was continuing and likely for life, has....disappeared. Treatment worked, just as well as I am assured it was like pouring battery acid into the eye, the Consultant did say this particular treatment sometimes does work to eradicate the condition (it's not really battery acid, don't try this at home etc....) but not often, however Debs is one of the 'not oftens'. Phew, to say the least. Back home now where it is merely persisting down, after a long drive back as that road shown above is now closed. Popular Post Erichill16
Afternoon All, This time last year I was back home, the cruise was cancelled. We learned at about midnight the cruise was cancelled and we’d been booked on a flight home at 8.00 am in the morning via Stockholm. We got to bed at 1.00am but had to be up at 4.00 to make sure we got to the airport in time. It was unbelievable to get all the way there to come home within a few hour. The ship had new engines fitted and they weren’t responding to the controls when they tried it out that afternoon. We should have been suspicious when the departure point and date had been changed a week earlier. Anyway that’s in the past and pales into insignificance when compared to the inconvenience of this year. Carry on, Robert
