RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted December 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) I once saw a motor cycle pull up at traffic lights and the rider just keeled over. Splatttt. A few bystanders, quite concerned, ran across to check that he was alright but by the time we got there he was laughing his head off. We were all puzzled and asked him what was so funny. His reply? “That’s the third time I’ve done that since I took the sidecar off”. The old ones are the best. Sir TophamHatt
Evening. Great to read everyone is doing okay. Been watching The Night Manager. Been saved to watch for months now but 2 episodes in and it's pretty good so far. I see what everyone was talking about all those years ago. Tomorrow is back to modelling. I have an old Lima HO "control car" (DVT in the UK) to mod with dual lights and a marker. I can see it not working very well at all but have the diagram so will give it a go. Been doing that a lot with modelling recently with mostly positive results. Night all.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted December 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 10, 2020 A friend (a bike journalist at the time) did the opposite with a sidecar, rode it into a petrol pump as he forgot it was there. As for autocycles, a friend here has one for sale, it's worth over a grand apparently - not to me! Hideous thing. 7
Popular Post Ozexpatriate
A friend has a Ural motorcycle with sidecar - very retro looking as they really haven't changed much in appearance since their Soviet military origins. I believe the sidecar arrangement was part of his negotiation with domestic authorities to enable the purchase of a motorcycle. Being perceived as more stable (if harder to operate) with relatively low top-end speeds (for a motorcycle) this was a negotiated compromise. He also owns an old VW van (1960s?) so low top-end speed is his thing. He was involved in a traffic accident in the family minivan (hit in the side by someone who blew a red light and was spun around). He replaced that vehicle with a Subaru with a lot of ADAS features. The ADAS emergency braking feature worked and prevented an accident with his children on board. 17

Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Fuuny old day. I had an appointment with a rep at work at 9.00 and took SWMBO as we were then going to visit a couple of shops around town. When we arrived we found Gary, the delivery man was of as his daughter had passed away. The manager said they would cope, but after the meeting SWMBO and myself did some deliveries for an hour or so to relieve the strain. (Baz, we even did a delivery on Chapel Lane Carlton, but not to your mates.) Then called in at electrical wholesaler to collect some switches, M and S for some groceries and newsagents for a ‘special interest’ magazine. Went for a quick walk and then out to get some fish and chips and then a bit of eyelid inspection. Congratulation to Baz on his new position. Goodnight Robert 17 2

Buggritt! Its up on a par with the big C and covids as being not a good way to lose friends and relations. Me too Baz - not today but recently I learned that a great modelling friend who is well known in the hobby has Alzheimer's. Talking to him on the phone is heartbreaking and his wife is distraught. Their son visited them and after he left my friend turned to his wife and asked, "How long have we known that young man?" What a foul disease. Friends who were avid ‘cruisers’ persuaded us to go with them and made all the arrangements. We did enjoy it, but that’s it ticked off the ‘to do’ list and we’ve not felt we really need to go on another. (After getting off the ship in Fort Lauderdale, we drove down to Key West. Now, that’s something I would happily do again!) The one cruise I might want to do is the one that Jamie has described just above, through the Panama Canal. Every year (this, of course being the exception), all the cruise ships that have been sailing out of Vancouver to Alaska all summer re-position to the Caribbean for the winter. There’s another fleet moves the opposite way in the spring. There are usually bargains to be had on these trips. Did the cruise from Fort Lauderdale and Keys drive 2 years ago! We spent the night at Key West as the Superbowl was on - what a great place to be! There was a bit of accidental plane spotting that may have been our Dave... The Trans Pacific cruise was a positioning move from South Asia to the Glacier Bay season. Some then go back west to resume SE Asia duty. A positioning move from West Coast to East Coast (or vice versa) is on the bucket list. As you say, the position moves can be had a good price because the start/finish locations are quite different. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 10, 2020 Good evening everyone Well I’ve been busy in the cellar today, but I’m now at the point where I can now start work on the next section of wall. The good news is it isn’t 13ft as I initially thought, but a mere 11ft 6in instead. I was going to leave this until after the new year, but I’m hoping to make a start on this on Monday. Once the big bit is done, I’ll do the bottom 18-20in or so of the wall to the left of the corner and the narrow strip beside the door as well. as can be seen in the photos, there’s a lot of paint to strip, so it’ll take me quite a while, luckily I only need to go up to the bottom of the hatch/door, which is just above the damp proof course. Although I’ll probably go just past it, as I’ve got plenty of tanking solution. 16
