Simon G
Evening all, A pretty busy today with a 5 mile walk this morning in cold dry and calm conditions. A few jobs done early afternoon and then watched some rugby on the tablet (Exeter putting on a dominant second half performance to be Leicester). This evening was a shopping evening as the cupboards were starting to look a bit empty! Now all restocked. We came home with some reduced bread and cakes, so I have made a bit of a dent into those since we got home! I was sent a most amusing (to me at least!) piece of video today. A short search found it on YouTube as well: Apologies if you have seen it before. 2

Erichill16
Evening All, I'm sorry to heard of Ricks situation and hope as soon as the vaccine has done it’s job he can get out and do the things he wants. Hopefully it’ll not be long now. I must admit I’m beginning to feel despondent. I remember Tump saying it will be over by Easter and Boris saying we should be back to normal by Christmas. I don’t blame them as this situation is unprecedented but it doesn’t give you hope for their next predictions. Not done much today but helped a friend with a leaking toilet this morning and don’t really know where the rest of the day went. Did a bit of work in the shed and took Sydney for his evening walk. Not sure about tomorrow but F1 race on tomorrow so should be watching highlights. Goodnight Robert 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 6, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 6, 2020 Good evening everyone Despite the cool weather and the necessity to switch on the workshop heater this morning, I’ve hade a very productive day. I switched the heater off when I went in for my dinner and didn’t need to switch it back on again when I went back after dinner. Anyway, back to today’s activities, after much head scratching, chin rubbing, taking various voltage readings, continuity tests whilst flicking through the circuit diagrams I’d made, I eventually found what the problem was with the ‘stopped’ LED. It would appear that when I transferred the drawing from paper to computer, I’d inadvertently drawn one of the wires in the wrong place. On a positive note, I’d actually wired the panel as it was shown on the diagram, it was just that the diagram had an error. Once I’d identified what the error was and rectified the problem, a temporary alteration was made to check it worked. My board layout, wiring and schematic drawings certainly came in handy during the fault finding process, I’m so glad I took the time to draw them up. However, I’ll have to be a little more careful in future when transferring my paper scribbles and/or doodles to the computer for printing out. Once I was happy that everything worked as it should, a permanent repair was done. Whilst testing it yet again, another problem arose when the bridge suddenly stopped moving although the motor running. The problem was eventually identified to a missing locking pin on the final drive gear from the gearbox. I was going to dismantle the whole assembly anyway, so I could drop it into the hole in the plywood base. So once dismantled, I replaced the missing pin and once again tested it worked. Tomorrow, if the weather is fine, I shall enlarge the whole in the plywood base and then permanently fit the well in place, then re-assemble the drive mechanism and carry out further tests. This afternoon, I knocked off earlier than usual as Vidal Baboons hairdressing boutique was once again opening for business. As a consequence, I’ve now been shorn and I also no longer have a bushy (it wasn’t long) white beard! The evening was rounded off with a nice bottle of red and catching up with some recorded TV. One was a documentary about Gerry Rafferty, which was both informative and interesting.

brianusa
The ads! Now they are always moving, girl sweating on trainer bike, planes landing, ships under way all in full screen as well. The smaller ads are to be preferred as they don't detract from what was being viewed but I don't suppose that is the intent of the advertiser who wants the biggest noisiest and most objectionable message, in the hope that someone will remember the product. I can't say they are necessarily *worse* than other commercial websites that I visit. Even the email web portal provided by my internet provider has an advertising panel. They do at least allow it to be turned off, for as long as your login session lasts.
Popular Post iL Dottore
Good Morning. all, Finally a fairly decent night’s rest. As always, Lucy faithfully kept guard, curled up at the foot of the bed The various restrictions demanded to fight the pandemic have not significantly affected my life - even wearing a (surgical) mask is something I used to do on a regular basis. Life goes on pretty much as before (I’m lucky), but there is a psychological aspect (albeit minimal for me). The best way of describing it is to recount a conversation I had with my surgeon: Me: I’m most distraught, post surgery I can no longer run marathons. Surgeon: You used to run marathons? Me: No, but it was theoretically possible to run them, alas no more... I suppose that’s the hard thing for many: having the possibilities taken away. On the subject of ads, perhaps I’m an opinionated, contrary old dinosaur (actually, no perhaps about it) but these invasive ads have the opposite effect on me than the creators intended: far from making me want to rush out and buy “X”, these ads make me avoid the advertised product like a vampire avoids Holy Water! (BTW how come what few ads that do get through never seem to be the ones featuring scantily clad females that other ERs have complained about/enjoyed?). Finally, to wax philosophical on a Sunday morn: something for all of us fossils enduring pandemic restrictions to consider. If you are a] over 30* and b] have had children, biologically you are redundant. As far as Mother Nature is concerned you are now surplus to requirements having passed on your genes! So, bottom line, every extra day after your 30th birthday is a bonus! Have a great Sunday iD *p.s. Why 30th birthday? Peak/optimal reproductive period in humans (some say) is from the late teens to the late twenties. Then returned the house almost as quickly. Its proper crunchy out there, I noticed about 17:00 last night the grass was beginning to frost over. Clear skies no wind. Adverts: I'm not getting full screen adverts on this forum, on this android tablet, but three of the other forums I visit do, the first or second page on them it goes full screen and it's hunt the hidden X. For me RMweb has taken to the irritating habit of ,when you first select the page , taking you to the bottom of a page where the adverts are, , so you have to scroll back to the top. The other habit is a small advert, that overlays the black bar informing you of other people's posts, on a small tablet the X for the advert is too small to hit and you can't always hit the correct spot on the black bar to use it because the adverts in the way.. Yesterday some ferrite rings arrived, I had spoken to the in-house engineer, who had done the analysis of the LED lighting for my lab, to see if it was electrically safe, ie not interfering with our equipment. He suggested fitting ferrite rings to the wiring. This I did with clip on rings as close as possible to the led lights. It seems to have worked . Today's plans.. Turn the heater on in the workshop, SWMBO informs me there is a small wooden cupboard that's become available, it may be useful in the workshop, I'll have to go measure it, then see if there is a home for it. This is part of a process of getting rid of excess furniture, some we bought with us to this house, some has been inherited from the previous owners, it was left in the garage or mobile home., And some inherited from the family.. Then the keel will be fibreglassed on its currently bare side. 15
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all I rather fancy going out shopping today. I don't actually enjoy shopping per se, which is just as well for a resident of Bedford where there is no longer a Marks and Spencer or Beales and the days of Debenhams are numbered. It is a long time since we have had a model shop, come to that. Until recently there was a traditional ironmongers which sold some m*d*ll*ng requisites but that too is kaput. If I do go out, I will drive to a large town some way from here where there is a pop-up shop dispensing merchandise that is likely to appeal to me. As I type I am wavering because it's cold out there. If I do stay in I doubt that I will be very productive because Sundays are like that. I made some dumplings yesterday. It seemed the obvious thing to do given that I had made a beef casserole. In addition to the prescribed beef, onions and carrots I bunged in some button mushrooms. The packet containing the sauce mix reckons that it should yield four servings but I have my doubts. After eating one of them I watched "The Railway Children" on BBC2. There will no doubt be more classic movies on TV to help me get through the festive season. I can hardly wait, it says here. Rick, what you posted a few hours ago expresses so familiar a set of feelings. Please be assured that you are not alone. Best wishes to all Chris 17 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted December 6, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 6, 2020 Ey up! My eye aches a bit.. not enough to require medication but a steady ache. Buggggrrrritt! I am sure it will, like the other eye, come good in a couple of days. There are lots of things I would like to do, but am not allowed to, there are lots of people I would like to see ..i haven't seen my sister since last december and she doesn't do e meetings, but that may be less of a problem soon, it must be my north eastern culture that keeps me going. Now today will not involve muddling due to eye ache but I can try and fix our pump and empty our front garden lake, or I could sit and do nowt all day... while pondering on that, time for my mugatea.. Stay safe everyone! Baz 1
