As their movements indicate that they regularly work in and out of Montrose it does indeed look as if they are staying out on the anchorage to save harbour dues as there are empty berths and another vessel went alongside yesterday afternoon after these two had both anchored offshore. Fascinating what you can find out on the 'net if you know where to look I was thinking they wouldn't fit in Stonehaven harbour. I knew I shouldn't have got into a discussion about courier deliverys, today's delivery from the house of strong ladies says "handed to resident"..nope ...not had a visit by them at all today, I've raised the necessary complaints with them. The next village to us has gone all flashy lightly, which should brighten tomorrow morning. The journey home was a pain. Wroxham has road works with single way working, effin clown town has road works and single way working, there are two sets of pedestrian crossings between. So the traffic jams are feeding through each set of road works getting stuck half way through as your line gets stopped by the other set. 13

It depends on which way the low pressure system hanging over the country moves in the next few days but at the moment its staying put and just piling in the wet and windy weather. Just watched the weather report with this evenings news. The low is predicted to move to over Suffolk before this weekend with the possibility of sleet here in Estuary-Land. One thing is certain is the Q will be getting it first, I hope he gets the Land Rover back soon. Edited December 2, 2020 by PhilJ W

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted December 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 2, 2020 A local bridge repair has commenced: https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/network-rail-begins-vital-improvement-work-at-cuffley-railway-bridge Does "replacement of the bridge deck" mean that all steelwork will be replaced, or just the part between the side girders? It's a shame that the bridge was repainted some years ago, as prior to that you could still see the faded advertising on the side of the bridge (though memory fails to remember what this actually was). I hope the appearance doesn't change unduly, though I have a real suspicion that it'll end up looking all "modern" . Cuffley became very famous (and a big tourist attraction) in the first world war when a Zepplin was shot down by the RFC. I believe special trains were laid on to cope with the crowds. Just how the bridge replacement is costing £3.2M is beyonds this little Bear, however. That's an awful lot of Lemon Drizzle Cake.

Fascinating what you can find out on the 'net if you know where to look Common practice both at Montrose and Aberdeen for vessels to sit outside the harbour saving harbour fees, they might make a dash in if the weather is forecast to turn, they seem to time hitting the tide right and rarely only stop there for the water. 5

The rail over road bridge at Benfleet station was replaced during Christmas 2012. From the platform and approaching by road it looks as before but if you walk under and look up the new girders are visible. The old ones did look very rusty! Here is a video for those who don’t mind something railway related. There is a nice image at the beginning showing how the road,is well below sea level. What the video doesn’t mention is that the road flooded the day before the work started. Also there wasn’t a road for the big crane so a temporary ramp was created and removed as well. 14 1 1 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted December 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 2, 2020 Evening all Thank you for your kind thoughts. There has been a high level of c**kwomblecy here too. British gas operatives have used their digger to cut through all of the local phone lines. I am typing this on my mobile. We were just gearing up to place an online order for a food delivery. It would have been the first time we have tried this. I don't fancy trying to do that on my phone. According to BT things should be fixed by Monday evening. I hope that is a worst case estimate. On the plus side they are sending me a mini hub with unlimited data as part of the package I have with them. I wasn't aware that they did this. I suppose the usefulness will depend on its speed and when it actually arrives. Have a good evening folks. 15

Popular Post Simon G
Evening all, Today’s walk was shortened to about 1 hour as I had some documents to review before a Zoom meeting tomorrow. It was pretty breezy and cold outside! Documents duly reviewed so I was able to work on my layout remediation. About 2 feet of track was soaked in warm water and lifted. I was able to easily reposition it and test with one of the locos that didn’t like the original track and it was fine. It will be refixed with PVA tomorrow. It now seems that we will be home alone at Christmas this year. We have decided against travelling south to visit my mother and it isn’t practicable for our sons to visit us. At least we will be able to watch what we want on the TV! 15 1

However if your internet provider is the same as mine the 4G modem is supposed to arrive next day. and you don’t have to worry about using up your phone data allowance either. Hope it does arrive quickly. Aditi used to use her phone for the food order but soon learned the error of doing so. She uses her tablet now! Ozexpatriate
Some unusual television this afternoon - an NFL football game on a Wednesday afternoon, under the "Sunday Night Football" banner. This game was originally scheduled for last Thursday evening and was to be the highlight and nightcap of the Thanksgiving day games. Positive CoViD testing pushed it to yesterday - a Tuesday night (very unusual, only twice in the history of the NFL; the first years ago due to a blizzard and then this year due to CoViD). It was then rescheduled to Wednesday - a first. NBC who own scheduling of "Sunday Night Football" elected to broadcast the game in the early evening (EST) to retain their scheduled Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting program in prime time. It will be interesting to see the ratings impact for this nationally televised game. As a result of the dominos falling, the Thursday game scheduled for tomorrow will be next Tuesday. Meanwhile the San Francisco 49ers cannot play home games due to local CoViD rules in Santa Clara County. They will play their scheduled Sunday home game in Arizona. The Santa Clara gathering ban will also impact college football. Stanford will now play Oregon State on Saturday here in Oregon. With no fans in the stadium there's not so much of a "home field advantage". Many college football games have been cancelled - even with delayed and impromptu makeshift scheduling. 11

[*] Up until a few days ago, there was no sign of the 2020-2021 season seeing any puck action. There is no way that they could play behind closed doors as there is zero external sponsorship from TV or media. [*] At the level they play at, it isn't unusual for about 1/3 of the team to be announced pre-season, with most of them being signed up in the last week/first couple of weeks of the season starting. #COYH 11 7

NSW government announced a whole heap of easing of restrictions yesterday given we're now 26 days with zero community transmission. Included is removal of all crowd limits on outdoor sporting events just in time for the cricket. Another is that we can go to a pub and stand up and drink, though expecting many Australians to be able to do two things at once is a big ask, but still - they are giving us each 100 bucks free money to attempt it. 15 1 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) Good evening everyone After getting the plywood ready for re-cutting, I turned my attention to the pointing. I finished off raking out the small area beside the door and mixed a small batch of mortar. I then got the section below the window re-pointed, finishing just in time for dinner. The rain finally stopped just after dinner, however I carried on with the pointing and I mixed another small batch of mortar and set about re-pointing the small area beside the door. There was a little bit left over, so, as it had stopped raining, I re-pointed the small area outside, below the window that I’d missed earlier in the year and also a small patch beside the drain cover outside the cellar door. Once I’d cleaned off my pointing tools, I did a bit more paint removal as well. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get this finished. Here’s a photo of the newly re-pointed wall below the cellar window. It isn’t pretty, but it (or will be) sound. But then it will soon be hidden by tanking solution and then followed by plasterboard, so it doesn’t really matter. This photo is the underside of the plywood, showing how I’ve reaffixed the centre, so that I can enlarge the hole. That long (40”) aluminium ruler does help!
