Early Risers.

Good morning everyone 

 

Like Neil, I was woken up by the rain lashing against the bedroom window last night, it was very loud! However we now have sunshine and very little wind, the leaves (what’s left of them) are hardly moving, it should make my walk to the butchers shortly very pleasant. 

 

After an early second muggertea, I will head for the Trafford Centre for a few more comestibles. There are no plans for after dinner, so a bit of research or layout planning my me done.

I'm seriously impressed with the strength of the bins however - I've seen the bin men do a double-take several times when they've gone to shift the bin and been met with more than a bit of resistance to move. ....

 

That I can vouch for as I once had to rescue next door neighbour who was almost waist deep in his green wheelie bin with no apparent way out that did not carry with it the probability of damage (to him, the bin or both). The rescue involved me, another neighbour, a set of step ladders and muchheavig and cussing. The supreme irony was that having made room in his bin for a lot more rubbish, which he then filled to the brim with more compacted greenery, the bin men refused to empty it as it was too heavy so he had to take some stuff out for the next collection day. Laugh? I was nearly tempted to buy a round....

Before we moved we had new neighbours in out Cul de Sac and they were really nice people, one day they decided to remove some old conifers, so another neighbour and I offered our wheelie bins as back up. They were soon filled and so another couple of people offered theirs. I don't know what the bin men thought when about 7 bins were all full to overflowing with conifers,

Brief walk was briefly walked and all magazines bar one were obtained and an acceptable sub was found so no aggro there.  Got home before the rain and it is now pouring.  The Boss has decided not to garden.  

I have done the green bin dance in the past but given my propensity to self harm I've given up.  I now just use a smaller plastic bin to ram everything down.  We share the bin with our friends next door.  Not sure what Russ puts in there as sometimes it's so bloody heavy it's an effort to move and I'm waiting for the day they refuse to take it.  That'll be interesting as he works for the Council customer service department that deals with complaints including missed bin collections.    He can't really phone himself so I expect I'll have to complain (to him)

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Had a good nights sleep last night, so good that I overslept by about an hour. No troubles from Arthur Itis last night but as soon as I started to move he hit what seems like every joint. Luckily he went back into hiding pretty quick. In the news this morning the Yorkshire Ripper is dead. There was an interview this morning with the son of his first victim, what he had to say makes you think about the attitude to the victims in such cases. Tea is waiting to be drunk, be back later.

We occasionally let a neighbour use our garden waste bin. On one occasion we declined as it was, in our view, full. 

He took it upon himself to compact our stuff down and then ram some fairly chunky branches in afterwards. No surprise that it split from top to bottom. He got his children to tie wrap it back together. We now have a bin that looks more like a laced-up football!

As if has turned sunny I walked to the sub PO then onto our local butchers. Some nice smoked bacon  locally produced black pudding and two growlers were bought and returned.

 

Her indoors is building some sugar free cakes...mmh! Wonder what I can have for lunch??

I see someone may be returning to County Durham sooner than suspected. Pah!!

Last day before my 6 day weekend

 

Need to finish off the coach lighting I've been banging on about for ages.  Problem is that other interests have taken over and I've somewhat "got bored" before I finished the task - more so because I've had a long break from it.

 

I can't be alone in this, can I?

Good afternoon from a sunny but cool Charente.  The weather that comes across Biscay seems to get pushed north towards where most of you live. I'm generous to a fault. Late on parade today. Up a tad late and then had to go the The Danglies. 2 jobs, the first to arrange a standing order for our local taxe Fonciere.  That was done very efficiently. The other task was to buy a new set of phones as the base station failed on our old one. That also went quickly.  This afternoon I plan to paint another 34 sq metres of the shed floor. There is progress at last.

 

On my way to St John of the Danglies I listened to Yesterday in Parliament. The goings on inside Downing Street sound like a soap opera. It seems as if the PM's fiancee is now the top dog. It could be an episide about the Tudors.  Where will he go.  I await the next episode.

 

The best news of the day is the death of Peter Sutcliffe. I can't shed any tears for him. Beth was the first officer on the scene of one of his attacks in Chapeltown. Fortunately the lady survived.

Afternoon All,

part. Way through gutter cleaning, its taking longer than usual but it’s fine and the sun is shining and there’s no wind so I can listen to the radio.

Just realised that the ciabatta I’ve been eating (and have had before) is a part baked variety, no wonder it taste awful!

Need to read the small print.

5 hours of work wasted because some hoofw*nking bunglec*nt decided it would be a good time to purge all the test data in our development instance. I may just pull the plug for the day and have a long nap instead.

Afternoon all, yesterday must have been more draining than I thought, we were woken by the coalman delivering at 10 o'clock!!, my old biker pals funeral yesterday and we were able to watch the service from the crem streamed live, nice were able to watch, but sad we weren't able to be there, sign of the times. Bit of sunshine so might go for a walk after brunch, take care all.

Did they say why? Just out of interest really as at one time when I used to teach about computing, test data was considered to be rather important. There were marks for test data so obviously it had to be kept. This was only A level so perhaps it is different in the real world.

Afternoon all,

 

Rained last night;  cramp/arthritis in both legs/feet last night at various times (her fault as she shoved to my side of the bed so I couldn't get into anti-cramp mode);  no more money yet sent to Shildon but some will be at some stage; fairly nice weather outside now.

 

But the big news is that we have at last cornered the mouse, literally.  It is hiding, apart from the error of leaving its tail hanging out, in a corner of the kitchen above the worktop in the gap between the end of the wall cupboard and the wall.  Efforts to tempt/frighten it out were unsuccessful  so Plan D (or is it it E?) is to block off any egress at the top of the cupboards with some heavy grade plastic which it can't eat through and leave a plastic sheet enclosed area below the cupboards containing several humane mousetraps suitably provided with sufficient delicacies to hopefully tempt it.  The risk of course is that it will try to eat its way into the cupboards or ignore the traps and eat its way out of the plastic taped to the worktop and walls.  Time will tell but thus far it has definitely been an extremely resourcful s*dding mouse.

 

It is of cpurse a waste of time using the cats to get because Charlie brought it indoors in the first place.

 

Time for lunch although alas Baz will do better than me as mine will be mushrooms on toast garnished with several rashers of streaky bacon.

Turns out the tw@twaffle decided it wasn't needed and there is a demo coming up so instead of using the test instance he cleaned down the dev one. He is not popular at the moment as I'm not the only one he shafted with his fustercluck.

Andy B beat me to the point that standing in wheelie bins often leads to them splitting down the sides. There is also a SWL on the bin lift on the back of the wagon that will cut out if overloaded.

I have noticed that over the last few months doing our weekly shop has become that little bit harder because of the increase in number of those huge trollies being dragged around by those collecting for the clickers.  I suspect it will only get worse over the coming weeks. 

 

It all adds to the weekly excitement and challenge I suppose.

I suppose not quite as bad as the person responsible for the admin system server at my last college who deleted the Windows system folder to create some storage space. When asked “why?”, he said he didn’t know what it was for so got rid of it. I was able to use this as an example with my students but I had to say it was in a college in a galaxy, far, far away. Somehow my students guessed!

Afternoon awl, 

Very dark and threatening clouds this morning,  so I rapidly cut blanks for door,  then did the rest inside the garage,  it needed a fan heater on as it was chilly in there to start.. 

Each door was framed up and trimmed to size then fitted. The door to the garage from the workshop ,  is a folding door to give more clearance. 

One fixed panel and 4 of 5 doors created and fixed in place. One more needs creating of the split door to the storeroom and then fitting. Then I need to create or fit catches and handles on all doors. 

During this there clouds slowly cleared and now it's sunny outside.. So we've had no rain. 

 

You'll notice one door not created that's because my back screamed enough,  I'm now straightening my back on the sofa.. 

Meanwhile  there has been activity outside,  as road signs reporting road closure have been put up.. Down just where our road joins the "main" one it has been flooded,  I had thought of rain,  but noticed yesterday water was coming out of the road.. 

 

Tomorrow the last door,  and catch / handle  fitting... 

 

Chicken stew on the way,  red wine is being consumed..

It wasn’t really fair to chortle too much about the person who deleted the system folder. He was given the job as unlike others in the college he wasn’t an “expert”. Senior management seemed quite anxious about someone from business studies or computing who actually knew what they were doing having too much control. The poor chap couldn’t even restore from the backup as they had been backing up to a box of head cleaning tapes. Before you ask, the error messages the backup generated  were ignored.

We had soup for lunch. Aditi asked if I liked the chicken and chickpea soup we had recently. I said that I did. She said, ”well, this is the same but without chicken and chickpea”. It was very nice though.
