RMweb Premium polybear Posted November 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2020 A productive day for Bear - the studwork for the boxing in of the pipework is now 98% complete, with just a diddy bit to do (i.e. fixing the last few noggins) tomorrow; the plasterboard covering has still to be applied but in the grand scale of things that's the easy bit. Timber work is accurate to within a degree (vertical and lateral). That's the problem with being having been an Aerospace Engineer, with a Clinometer in the cupboard...... Tomorrow's main plan will be the picking up of leaves (deep joy, my cup runeth over....) and I 'spose I'd better wrap up and isolate the outside taps too, cos' if I don't it'll get me back with a vengeance.

Urban Development on remaining pockets of koala habitat is ongoing, particularly in South western Sydney which has the last disease free colony on the mainland. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted November 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2020 I did answer a phone call from MiL today. She is still concerned about her family in Delhi but the stress over having her living arrangements drastically reorganised seem to have gone. What was urgently necessary (allegedly) now is for sometime in the future. She although 92 still feeds cleans and dresses herself. She can do some light housework too. So being told she needed 24 hour residential care (in her own home) didn’t really please her. We had a walk to the post box. It is really quiet here if you avoid school pick up times. There seems to be new advice for the clinically extremely vulnerable today. It seems fairly similar to what I have been doing since March (allowed out for walkies from August I think) anyway. I had a call from something called Essex Wellbeing yesterday asking if I needed any help with food deliveries or collecting medicine. I don’t know if this is a new thing or they have just got to my bit of the alphabet from when I went on a list in March. It will be interesting to see if our food delivery tomorrow has items missing due to panic buying at the store where it is picked. I have no idea if they have Yorkshire Tea, we have Clipper Tea either their organic or the Fairtrade variety, whichever is available. To me they taste the same anyway. I think the reason we have them is compostibility of the teabags. Tony

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted November 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Sounds like the battle of the Somme outside this evening. Perhaps they're letting the fireworks off before lockdown starts. Mention of tea reminded me to re-order for C*******s which I now have done so. Thats all for now, be back later.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted November 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2020 Good evening everyone This morning’s rain didn’t last long, by the time I set off for my shopping expedition at the Trafford Centre the sun was shining. However, the expedition wasn’t as successful as I’d have hoped it would be, I was unable to get 2 items of clothing, which Ava had chosen. 1 item was in stock, but it was slightly shop soiled and the other matching item wasn’t, so an on-line order will have to be made for these. But as neither of us will be going anywhere, at least there should be someone in to receive the parcel. This afternoon I needed to book my next hormone injection, (the first at my GP’s surgery) something that Chrisf will know all about. The thought of trying to get the message through to checkpoint Charlene that this treatment HAS to be given on specific dates was something I wasn’t looking forward too. I initially phoned the surgery, but a recorded message advising that I should use the surgery website and select the ‘ask my GP’ option’. So, with a little bit of scepticism, I used the new ‘on-line option’ and surprisingly found the whole process was quick and very efficient. It was fairly simple to use, the hardest part was thinking up a suitable password! The result is I now have my appointment, on the specified date, although it’s at 9:10 in the morning, so an early start, but having said that, the surgery is only a 15 walk away, I just hope it’s not chuckinitdarn when I go. Goodnight all 9

It was nearly me, until I thought of the lane by the Flowing Spring, cutting out over half of the queue to Sonning Bridge. (Don't tell everyone.) Next time I need to travel between Reading and Caversham (tomorrow morning) I think I'll go round by Cirencester. Some years back I was coming off the A329(M) motorway spur and decided the best route to avoid the Reading rush hour was via Sonning so duly set off yup the A4 and via the shortest route through Sonning village to the bridge. There was a large SUV in front of me all the way until he got to Playhatch roundabout - where he turned left back towards Caversham and Reading. Sonning is ok if you get there at the right time but it has long queues in the peak hours. Spring Lane down by the Flowing spring definitely cuts the cornet off - when it isn't flooded - but it is poorly sighted for getting out at the Sonning end. So nowadays I often stay with the main road and turn at the Playhatvch roundabout instead. Last time I did that the car in front went vis Spiring Lane and I went via Playhatch - and passed as it waited to get out of Spring Lane 12

Apparently he had said counting should be stopped once he had a majority. Doesn't this halfwit realise that time wise the West Coast bit is a long way behind the East Coast bit so unless they all start the counts simultaneously some counting will take place after other results are in? It seems to me a surprisingly unsophisticated country which isn't able to arrange for all counts to take place at the same time and not until after all ballots have been cast - weird. I don’t want to get political, but I’ll just say don’t underestimate the man! About coordinating counts - all arrangements for federal elections are under the control of the individual states. They aren’t likely to give up any of that control - coordinating with other states would likely be interpreted as that. 7 4

MrWolf
Well it's 03:45 and neither of us can sleep. RRH has just been in the kitchen and informed me of an impending crisis. She says that we only have two teabags left. In ordinary circumstances this might mean me making a 20 miles round trip to get some. But as we are limiting ourselves once again to necessary journeys we will have to manage until it's official morning. That may mean acting like we were still in college and using the teabags many times. I know, that's just nasty.... RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted November 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 5, 2020 A couple of (factual) comments on North American elections. There are 5 1/2 time zones.* That creates all sorts of confusions. In Canada it used to be illegal to reveal results to locations where the polls hadn't closed, in case it influenced voting. This seems to have be kiboshed by the interwebby. People out west hated turning on the TV at 8:00 (local time) and hearing "The new government will be ..." before the ballot boxes had even been opened. In the USA the elections are run by the individual states, each of which has its own set of regulations. The times of counting advanced/mailed in ballots varies. They are voting for more than a president -- congress and 1/3 of the senators. I'm not sure if more levels of government are on the ballot or not. * in Canada. I'm not sure where Alaska and Hawaii come in. 4
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Welcome to another month of house arrest. Those who rule us know what they are doing, it says here on my script. It has already messed up my dinner date in Weybridge and I look forward to having another go when we are at relative liberty again. Some of today will be spent compiling a shopping list while I summon up the courage to brave the supermarket and its compulsive shelf-emptiers tomorrow. I will also try to look on ironing as therapeutic but on past form that will be a tall order. I fear for the long term future of my TV set. It has developed a less than endearing propensity to switch itself off without warning. Mind you, it must be one of the few left with a cathode ray tube. It is only the second that I have owned. I won the first in 1985, in a competition on BBC Radio Bedfordshire as it then was. It was the third prize, a case of champagne, that prompted me to enter. There could be an interesting discussion about whether a TV set counts as essential for the purposes of the lockdown. Amid the gloom, if gloom it be, there is some hope that a wrong will be righted. Something needs to be done about the inconsistencies and injustices surrounding visits to elderly relatives in care homes, and the sooner the better. Gentle readers will realise that I have particular examples in mind and will share my fervent hope that all will be made well before it is too late. Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 5, 2020 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple hare, 759 / 475. Not too good a nights sleep , I ended up on the sofa having taken pink pills again. once my back subsided I did get some sleep but not as much as I would like.. Going home via the garage that does my landrover work , I got there booked the work and... an hour later was back there again. On the way there about a mile from the garage, I have wait till there is no traffic from the right, ease out on to the road to look past a house that forms the corner of the road. once clear from the left, you can then proceed to turn right, which i did. about a hundred yards on is a hump backed bridge, well two actually a hundred yards apart, as I approached the back of the queue going over the bridge in my direction maybe 50 ft behind the next car. A cockwomble pulled out in his little kia coming the other way..... 1.5 tons of landrover don't stop that quickly.. so I took off his front right hand corner of the car stopping just beyond him. I went back checked he was OK and then moved the landrover off the road into a driveway entrance.. the queues of traffic were already building up.. He then moved his car with difficulty into a car park a few yards ahead.. He accused me of arriving at over 50 mph...a 1984 landrover reaching 50 mph in one hundred yards from a dead stop? ... I don't think so sunshine.. While I was getting his details a man turned up and passed me his card to act as a witness for Accident , he had appeared behind me after I had pulled out of the road junction. He then left as he had over 100 miles to go... Anyway went we got the the back of the landrover the old man from the kia struggled to read the number plate of the landrover to write it down.... from 6 foot... After that was all sorted, I turned the landrover round and took it back to the garage, they had a quick look and diagnosed a bend in a track rod, and a slight bend in the bumper, though there may be more. Then I borrowed their phone and SWMBO came out to pick me up... Then phoned the insurance brokers, lots of questions and it was all done online.. They have an agent who will investigate the accident, to make a claim against the other driver... having a witness makes this a lot easier.. While on the phone.. Ben the I want to play Collie caused a few problems.. he wanted his just home play with his toys, I had to appologise to the brokers for going owww, as 25kg of dog landed on me.. Well it's shrapnel time at work, little bits of pieces to cal, as I poets today, I'm not in tomorrow. Two major systems handed back, One left the boss is investigating.. The next 3 months programme was worked out... Ah.. the week before the red man turns up, I have 3 systems to do the first week of 2021 I have 2 systems to do... There's not enough time.. extended cal's will have to be issued on something.. Time to.. go find some shrapnel. 1
