Happy Anniversary indeed. Glass raised later. Afternoon all. The weekend is here. Another day of coaching new entrants at the House of Fun which went rather well. And Friday Drinks within the hour. Long conversation with Aussiemate during the afternoon. He is a lot less than chuffed at things out there currently and has ascertained that through his paternal line he has Right of Abode in the UK. There are matters which require him to stay there for the medium-term not least his school-age children one of whom has very special needs. So it will be quite some time before he exercises his right but he intends to do just that. Probably with three post-school offspring when he arrives. For now something is deeply troubling his mental health and I am in "always here - always listening" mode. In other news the electrons between the Hill of Strawberries and Camborne have been troubled again which will result in the need to smuggle another parcel indoors in the near future. Quite handy at smuggling, us Cornish, thank goodness Avagoodun. 22 1

Breakfast has now been consumed and as it’s a Friday I’ll shortly be heading off to the butchers to collect the weekly meat rations and a pastie for my dinner. Then it’s back home to put the rations in either the fridge or freezer then make myself a second muggertea. Once that’s done I’ll then head off to the Trafford Centre for a few more comestibles. As it’s half term I spect it will be heaving today, so I’ll not be there long, not that there’s any shops left in there that are interesting anyway. Today is our 42nd wedding anniversary, but the current situation will mean that it will be just the 2 of us tonight! Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted October 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 30, 2020 Afternoon all, Happy anniversary to Brian and Mrs Brian, you're running one year and several months behind me & Mrs Stationmaster. And a request for Chrisf - if you can understand the blinkin' instructions in said box will you please explain them to me because having been told in one place to catch a sample with toilet paper (how long do they think my arms are?) it let goes on to say somewhere else to make sure that said sample doesn't touch the toilet paper. After reading those bits I gave up deeply concerned about what contradiction might come next. Incidentally back along when the GD belonged to a sort of PhD student chat group she knew a chap whose job, and part of his PhD work, was studying said samples - I doubt he was paid enough to truly recompense him for that task. Getting back to less intimate subjects the town today seemed to be packed out with motor vehicles with some impressive stupidity delays in a few places. add to that the reopening of the long closed end of Waitrose car park (which is actually a council run car park) completely with a reversal of the flow direction in one lane and confusion, and more stupidity, was taking pride of place. I'd also love to know what a certain motorist doesn't understand about the meaning of various road markings and the principle of giving way to traffic from the right on a roundabout - second one I've seen this week at that particular roundabout although this time some other poor schmuck was the target of the brain dead projectile driver (fortunately on both occasions the idiots have missed their targets). Good to hear that Rick is spending his money down west with a certain person - I've already got two of those so I don't really need another one (especially as I didn't really need the other two ). And just to stick with things I don't really need and shouldn't mention a pleasant little yellow improved green machine arrived this afternoon from County Durham. Weather in the meanwhile, and all day, has been fairly yuck but it is almost November and at least it isn't snow (yet). Enjoy the rest of your day a one and all and try to stay safe. 19 1

To this day if I get hiccups, I grab a glass of water, hold my nose and try to do 10 swallows. (it is bloody hard to do actually) Best cure ever. There's two of I know of: Tell someone when you're next going to hiccup (I guess this makes you focus and somehow they go?) Inhale through your mouth, swallow twice, slowly exhale through your nose (this has worked for me in the past but I forgot it in the car). 13

Popular Post Ian Abel
Get ready for this, the MORON alarm just went off, really LOUD Having attempted to connect to my Long Island client systems (last time was sometime yesterday) the VPN connection worked, but none of the web sites I access were available?? Checking in with the moronic IT department, the ONLY comment they had, via email, was "are you connecting via VPN, because we were told VPN is not used anymore"! That's ALL, nothing more. Fired off the email forwarded to the big-wigs I work for/report to with the note "All I HAVE for accessing the system is VPN, what else is there?" Two hours so far and not even an acknowledgement of my email... well, they're now paying me for doing nothing, POETS on their dime today for sure 7 3

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 30, 2020 Evenin' each, Not posted for a couple of days but have just about caught up so glad to hear that Tony & Dave have returned home safely, belated birthday greetings to Jamie and Happy Anniversary to Brian and Mrs W. Apologies if I've missed anyone else. My hiccup cure handed down from my grandad is to have somebody hold a glass of water for you, take a deep breath and block your ears with your fingers and then drink all of the water still holding your breath and hoping that the other person doesn't tip the glass up too fast. It's always worked for me. Not much happening here although I spent a couple of hours today playing with the washing machine and "de-coking" it as the detergent drawer etc had got all gunged up. "Somebody" has not followed instructions about cleaning it but apparently it was my fault for not reminding them! 2 3

He would need to check for them too. That has been checked. And they do. Circumstances differ. Anyone else in similar situations should seek professional advice as to their rights (which can change) and those of anyone else involved. In other news SWMBO has been preparing her C*******s recipes. It is rather early but it is probably diverting her attention from other things. Not least the increasingly confused messages from various sources regarding this wretched virus. For example SAGE is reported today as saying that the infection is spreading fast and we may be on course to exceed the “worst-case” predictions some months before the depths of winter. Yet in the same report it is said that in the NE (at least) the rate of infection has not increased “in weeks”. The current figures for number of cases by local authority area also show sharp downturns including locally here and with the accompanying graphs also suggesting a levelling or downturn in infection. Just who or what do we believe? Or is this deliberate befuddlement intended to blur harsh reality? 13
RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted October 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 30, 2020 Reading some of the recent posts, I'm reminded of a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon about hiccups, "I think most hiccup cures were really invented for the amusement of the patient's friends". https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=calvin+and+hobbes+hiccups&qpvt=calvin+and+hobbes+hiccups&form=IGRE&first=1&scenario=ImageBasicHover Getting back to Baz's query about house moves a few pages ago, I initially dismissed it, if not with a 'pah', then with an unsaid 'no'. But ... ... I've just noticed the house at the bottom of our garden has gone up for sale. Strange and slightly worrying, as we don't have a very high turnover of people nearby, so I wonder if there's a problem.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 30, 2020 Evening. What a day. Letter in post for Mrs NHN giving appointment for hip injections week today 11am - exactly the time of her friend's funeral (still not a lot of news regarding the perpetrator - something funny going on) She also had a GP appointment this morning for injections into fingers (she's having a lot of Arthur Itis issues), so after that called the hozzy to discuss changing next Friday's appointment - told to get there now ish and they'd squeeze her in. At the same time she has had an eye issue that hasn't improved since she last saw the GP last week, AND then felt like she had something in the eye in a different place. Asleep yet? There's more.... So after the hip job was done (OW! apparently - been there, t shirt etc) around to A&E for them to have a look at the eye. The original issue was seen and GP's assessment (it'll get better on its own) agreed, a scratch in the cornea seen, an eyelash found up under the lid, and a different more worrying issue identified in the same eye. Referral to be made to opthalmic specialist. Home at 6.....after leaving at 8 am! NHS performing well, the NHN's somewhat shattered!

It has indeed stayed stable since the beginning of October but it is a lot higher than down here. Parts of the NE like Newcastle in the same period have moved from blue to dark blue on the map (higher rates). No increase in an area is still concerning if it was at a high rate anyway. Reducing would be nice. Some of the NW areas that have had local lockdowns prior to the Tier system are showing slowdown in infection rates. I couldn’t find the SAGE report mentioning NE rates not increasing. The much reported “worst case scenario” numbers was in a leaked report. Having quickly read an extract of the leaked report there are discussions about whether or not the modelling assumptions that led to those numbers are correct. But of course that doesn’t make good headlines or sound bites. I have noted recently a few journalists comment when challenged about headlines not matching their article point out that they don’t write the headline.
