Aditi’s car was returned, having passed its MoT test without any warnings.

Just before it was returned the garage rang to ask for payment but I reminded them it was free. When Aditi bought the car it came with a Ford free MoT for life (of ownership). Aditi hasn’t forgotten. They valeted it too which was nice. It looks white again. 
As it was a warm day I decided I would clean the magnetic sludge filter for the central heating. It wasn’t too sludgy and it went back together without any incident. The filter is next to the boiler in the utility room so no crawling around airing cupboards was required.  After cleaning the filter it needs to be filled with new inhibitor and for once I had purchased it in anticipation of doing the procedure.  
Aditi has been spiking the lawn. She was quite “enthusiastic” and I thought a demented badger had been visiting. 
We have a rain warning for tomorrow morning. We were not planning to go anywhere.

Evening All,

Been absent for a couple days, no need to worry (if any of you did) I’ve been of in the motor home to Scarborough for a long weekend. If you remember it was Swmbos birthday so had to make the effort. Enjoyable time was had especially as we took Bils dog Sydney. 

In the meantime I hope I haven’t missed anything import and I find everyone fighting fit. If not commiserations to those effected.

We once went to lunch with some colleagues of hers who were from Peshawar originally and they did Afghan influenced food for us.  Quite different again

Ah, pub lock-ins - i wonder if they were still going on in recent years (pre Covid)?  We used to do rather well for them here nots withstandng the preseence of the poleeece in the town centre (that dates things for a start) as one or two pubs were known for it.  I rarely left my usual 'local' on a saturday night - it was usually the early hours of Sunday morning.

 

we also had the benefit of not only being right on the county border but on the other side of it the nearest village bobby on that side of the line was 4 miles away and apart from having local pubs there to keep an eye on only had a push bike for transport.  Thus there was a regular traffic across the river when the pubs on our side closed at night and a friendly knock on the door on the other side would gain you admittance as long as you were known to the landlady.  The plod on our side could do nothing about it although every now and then they would go in for a spot of weekend overtime and position themselves at the town end of the bridge and stand by to arrest any drunks coming back over especially if they happened to be pushing or riding a bike.

 

But it all ended when the county forces amalgamated to become TVP and the coppers from our side of the river could legitimately start checking up on the two pubs on the other side, which ruined the trade in one of the pubs over there causing it to be shut down.   But they never normally interfered with any lock ins - after all they were just friends having a free drink after hours so no law was being broken.

Good evening everyone 

 

Just like yesterday, today didn't quite go as planned! I did manage to get in the workshop and I did manage to make a start painting the well of the turntable, but I didn’t get as far as I would have liked. At about 1:15, I decided to stop what I was doing and go and get something to eat, but as I was walking up the cellar stairs to head into the kitchen to make my dinner my phone rang, it was Sheila. Apparently, as she was walking back home from the hairdressers, she came across Max, looking rather bloodied and shaken. He had been riding his bike and had draped his hoodie over his handlebars. Inevitably, the sleeves became loose and then hot entangled round his front wheel, resulting in the wheel locking up and him going over the handlebars! Luckily he wasn’t badly injured, he had just cut his lip, but the blood seemed to be everywhere. A couple of ladies who were passing by had stopped to help him, as they were doing so, he spotted Sheila walking by and shouted to her. After thanking with the two ladies who were helping him I was called and asked if I’d could walk round to where they were and see if I could untangle his hoodie and check his bike out. That was a relatively easy task, the bike was fine and I was easily able to untangle the hoodie, which miraculously wasn’t damaged either, but Max was still a little bit shook up so we all ended up walking back to our house. I then put Max and his bike in the boot of the car and we then drove him home. 

 

By the time we got back home it was after 2 o’clock, Sheila went straight upstairs for a shower and I made myself some dinner. Only the second day of the week and yet another late dinner. 

 

After a late dinner, I managed another hour in the workshop before calling it a day. The turntable well has had one coat of paint, a rather streaky two tone grey and brown colour. Hopefully tomorrow (wishful thinking?) I’ll get a bit more weathering done and the rails painted.

Grey squirrels were on the Min of Ag, then Defra, now Natural England lists of  pest species for many years.  Long before this was even thought of.

 

The problem being if they get released back into the wild, they breed and spread. The territories get bigger and they end up invading the enclaves of Red Squirrels.  Since the grey carries squirrel pox it can pass this on and the red has little chance of surviving. Likewise the red is forced out as their food supplies are effectively taken by the bigger grey.

 

We are fighting a never ending battle in the Llanwrtyd area where there is a small red population and greys are a constant threat.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Farcebook have been and gone and done it, turned off the old Farcebook. I've been trying to make some sense of it and I've found a few bits that are helpful but most of it is carp. There is now no indication of any new posts on a group or how many new posts, and of course everything has to be in their beloved sh!t order. Now to see if I can make any sense of it.

Good Morning All,

 

Up early today as Mrs iD got up at 3am and made coffee (she couldn’t sleep), As my bedside clock had stopped I didn’t know what time it was, so smelling the coffee I thought that it was the usual time to get up and did so. Definitely an error of judgement..... Now I can’t get back to sleep.... 
 

Am I the only one to think that the censoring software used on RMWeb is a bit overzealous and a tad absurd? I understand the need to avoid/prevent the posting of obscenities and derogatory epithets, but when common-or-garden, and innocuous, phrases and words are censored, it becomes a puritanical absurdity. I found this out when I reread my post on Hedgehogs and saw that “mak3 l0ve” and “c0itus” had been deleted, neither of which could be considered as obscene or derogatory by any reasonable person. Furthermore, in the past, in other posts I have made which contained certain medical/scientific terms, those medical/scientific terms were censored because some of those terms were on the “bad words” list (don’t believe me?  Try typing in the latin name for the human species and see what happens when you post). And the ironic thing is that I could be incredibly offensive, obscene and derogatory without once resorting to any “bad words” and thus avoid auto-censorship (although one hopes a moderator would pick up on such a post).
 

Whilst on the subject of “being offensive”, somewhere in my library I have an amusing little booklet entitled “the art of the insult” (IIRC) and there is not one “bad word” to be found in it. There are, however, loads of really witty and amusing insults, such as “he Is a modest man, with much to be modest about”  or “he was born with a silver foot in his mouth”. Of course such repartee requires a modicum of erudition, which is probably why too many “edgy” modern comedians (or so-called “comedians”) resort to the “F [insert political target here]” attempt at humour. Perhaps they should be told that sort of “humour” is neither clever nor funny...

 

Sorry to be so grumpy, but a sleep-deprived and caffeine-fueled iD is not a pretty sight...

I awoke with the usual complaints  of the joints in my hands,  and my lower back with the arrival of rain. I note vesterday's seaweed twirler estimates, stated yellow rain from midnight , however the radar is now showing it just arriving.. This was the former Spanish storm Barbara.. 

 

I had problems the other day on a small scale bits of parallel bits of metal site where it kept changing

c o c k u p into large male chicken up..

However the worst I get is now at work, the latest lab computer I was issued with has full parental controls set,  with no option to change,  for instance I can't start searching for model railways as the word "model" is blocked . Sometimes it just blocks odd combinations of words,  coming up with a full page warning Screen and you're just sat there wondering why?

Usually a reformat of the words gets round it,  but it does get difficult when you're search for an item or information .. 

 

Since I'm awake and ready to move  slightly earlier than usual a bacon and egg breakfast calls

 

Time too get the pan warmed up...

Vertical farming is already taking place,  both on farms and In strange things like shipping containers in Paris,  basically trays of plants,  being fed by fertilizer carrying water lit by optimum timed led  lighting. Enables salad generation all year round,  and at an economic price.

I had a littie fun with a cold-caller yesterday.  She started to rabbit on about warranties for electrical appliances.  I asked her where she got my number, for it is ex-directory.  "It's on the list in front of me".  Oh, yes: what appliances do you think I have, and what brand?  "A washing machine and a fridge freezer".  I did not recognise the brand she named and - the good bit - I do not have a washing machine.  You have been misinformed, madam.  Goodbye [hangs up].

 

I agree with Flavio about the profanity filter.  For me its most irritating appearance is when the unsuspecting poster enters the three letter Latin word meaning "with", as in Chorlton-***-Hardy.  Let it be banished at the next software upgrade.  Please!  This  gives me the opportunity to share a politically incorrect joke.   A young lady from Essex took a dress into her local dry-cleaners and pointed to the blotch that she wanted removed.  She mumbled something that the man behind the counter did not quite catch.  "Come again?" he asked.  The girl replied: "No, luvvie, it's salad cream this time".
