However, it does have its disadvantages - particularly in the Summer when it is packed with tourists The charm of Rye is unquestionable.

Indeed - I have spoken to a number of customers who have moved to/from Rye and the usual reaction is about the tourists, and also as many of the houses front onto the street, to the number of faces peering through the windows as though the house was actually a shop!

Afternoon All

Chucking it down here, so, I've decided not to go out at lunch time. The good news is that we had a call from the specialist vet last night, and the material flushed from the dog's ear was not malignant, and also when it was cultured, nothing grew, so it wasn't a fungal or a bacterial infection. In fact, the stuff was just sitting there, but it was slopping around and it was affecting her balance and for some reason that the vets have yet to explain, was making here drink excessively (she is drinking a lot less now).

Jam - course we want to see your little kitten. Most if us ERs are also animal lovers as well as train and drivel lovers.

Regards to All

Stewart

Freda is very sleepy today, but shes been on my lap for the first time and is still getting used to me bless her. laugh.gif

Well, I've started to sort out the problems with that program update. It appears all the default settings are set to the complete opposite of what I'd expect! Seems a bit counterintuitive to me. Oh, and surprise, surprise I still haven't started revision today - I keep putting it off for some reason huh.gif

Evening, nice one hereabouts. Nice new friend Jam, I'm not a cat lover or even liker, but she does look cute.

Sunday saw me spending the day with Hornby's new sound and smoke equipped Black 5 model from their upcoming Very Large Skale range. It has the best sound I've ever heard on a model, the smoke effects are very realistic too. Downsides are it's amazingly expensive and, of course, you need a very large space to put it in - you should see the size of the station buildings!

Here it is:

I'm going to have to watch this smiling malarkey - it's going to ruin the grumpy old man persona....

Jam - Freda is a little beauty; don't you just love that astonished look on the face of a kitten?

Phil - Lucky s*d! ;)

Just back from my bike run of 13 miles. Last night I cycled 28 miles so it should have come as no surprise that my legs had a lot less strength than yesterday and I suppose I should lay off long rides for a couple of days. what it has done is put into perspective the level of strength and stamina that the Tour de France riders possess, bearing in mind the feats they perform day after day during that gruelling test!

Jam, that's a cute kitten! I was very impressed with your first 3D visualisations of your RMweb Diorama Challenge layout - I thought the first one was actually a model. I've decided to enter the challenge too, but there's no way I could do a 3D drawing like that!

That's very kind of you Mike blink.gif

I've actually just posted another one too laugh.gif

I have to admit each one takes hours to do, but I do enjoy doing it!

Freda is a little beauty isn't she. She's started getting very adventurous and keeps climbing on top of her cage. It is funny to watch her as she keeps falling over when scratching and running into things laugh.gif

I will be interested in seeing what you have come up with for the RMweb Challenge!

Jam, nice kitten photos. I like the claws coming out on the first photo! Robbie is really difficult to photograph, he always rushes the camera! I suspect this is why my Canon camera has a pets and children option!

My cycling this summer will probably be restricted to sorting out my bike so Matthew can get cycle fit. He has been advised that the best best method for getting about for where he is going in Vietnam is by bicycle, so he would like to get some practice before he goes. Matthew has got an old bike his uncle gave him but mine is better (brakes and gears work!) so he might as well use it, though I don't know exactly how it will compare to whatever sort of bike is available in rural Vietnam. Matthew has had his last exam (the one set by the lecturer who annoyed him yesterday) today (he phoned on the way to meet his friends in a pub!) so I don't know what he is expected to do now between now and July 1st as there aren't any lectures or tutorials. We may visit this Sunday, parental visits imply better food (restaurant) than weekend university hall fare!

I suspect you could bring him home Tony, DD1 has been home a week already she had nothing left on her timetable except a summer project.

I've now found out he has booked himself an injection(Hep A , B and Typhoid) a week for the next three weeks. I suppose I could see if he could have them done at home as a temporary patient. I don't think Matthew gets a summer task this year but they do next year. There are a couple of field trips next year as well, they have a choice of New York or Dublin for the compulsory one. This year Matthew's Human Geography group fieldwork was in Leicester but the other (in-human?) geography students got to go to Corby and Dartmoor.

Morning all...

It's raining at the moment and there has been what I believe must have been a rather fierce thunderstorm in the middle of the night – though I cannot be sure about the exact time as I did not look. It is predicted to be cooler today, which I guess will be good for a change.

I'll be getting myself a cup of coffee now...cheers everyone!

Insomnia Dd? or a disturbed night?

I love Frieda Jam, but unfortunately they don't remain "cute" for long :(

Strong South Easter here today, 47 kph which is most unseasonal as it is our Summer wind.

Hornby have certainly gone BIG Mike. Looks really great to play with but I DON'T HAVE THE SPACE OR MONEY.

Large Solar Flare to hit Earth today (8/6/11) at 5:00pm GMT.

Expected aurora borealis to be best sighted in North America where it could be visible in the East Coast as far south as Washington DC.

Don't forget to wear your kitchen foil hats (pics please).....

Best, Pete.

Morning all. It's dry at the moment but pretty much a full set of oktas out there.

Jam - I'm hoping to have something unique on my Challenge diorama, but it's going to take some constructing, I think. I'm not even entirely sure how at this stage but I'm going to give it some thought!

Morning All,

It is extremely humid and wet here in Karlsruhe. We have just had a heavy shower of rain - which naturally had to coincide with me getting to work!

On the subject of Rye, tourists are part of life there and you just have to get used to it! I had several friends who lived in the town centre, and it is perfectly true that tourists will stare into houses. Some will even shield their faces with their hands and press their faces up against the glass to see what is going on inside. It is almost like living in a model village.

Of course, it is a very different place in the Winter. When the tourists are gone, and the icy wind blows off the marsh. You really can feel the history there.

Jam - Freda is indeed lovely!

Phil - Nice model! Unfortunately, I am limited to OO by space constraints

Have a good day everyone...

Morning All, Some threatening looking oktas in evidence. Now in blind panic mode trying to get Waton operational before the 2nd July meet-up so I'll be in the shed most of today and ignoring any lists.

Good to see not even Phil could put on a grumpy old man face playing with a black 5!

Cheers

Dave
