BokStein
Good evening all, Another POTS day completed to end a week of 'can it get any worse? Yes, it seems that it can!" Having used a spreadsheet as a precursor to understanding a particular work process, I am now contemplating the design and implementation of additional tables in our Company database structure to simplify the process and, hopefully, make this process more resistant to fraud! Anyone who knows me could say that this is an Insider job! In other news: 9 hours ago, Andrew P said: The intention here was to walk to the end of the Road and then turn right and back home. In the end, I took the short cut through the woods, getting attacked on the way by Squirrels leaping from tree to tree and racing around the ground, which is always an enjoyable sight. Bet they were non-indigenous grey tree rats! IMHO, flea-ridden and open game! 10 hours ago, grandadbob said: We "need" to visit Sainsbury's this morning (no real surprise there) as magazines are required by her Bossness and she can't rely on the online shoppers not to pick out of date ones. Most on-line stores have one code for the magazine. You will note a barcode in two sections, for example, Continental Modeller is 9770955129156 which is a generic code for said magazine (others are available!). However, for each issue, there is a secondary barcode, with the legible number on its top, indicating the month for which it it issued. Large retailers (supermarkets, model shops, etc.) only use the generic code; the smaller newsagent generally either sells out or returns their unsold copies when the next month's issue becomes available. In order for the on-line pickers to get the correct issue, each magazine will need to be setup on their systems at least 12 times to distinguish between months. Too much effort for too little gain! Moral: buy your magazines in person or subscribe (which often means you'll get them before they reach the shelves and can be cheaper overall!). 12 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2020 Oddly, this bear (oh yes...) had jelly, a 10 cal sugar free job from a supermarket which isn't too bad. Not many sweets I can have but that is one! A decent day here degraded into absolutely stotting it down late afternoon, and now its blowing a hoolie instead, pah. Tomorrow we need to take the van for a run to charge the batteries so off down south somewhere for lunch after Debs has been Pilate'd. 1

(ex USSR military [I think] from Malta airport to Gozo and return). It was certainly the loudest helicopter I’ve ever flown in and, unlike the other helicopters I’ve had the enjoyment of travelling in, it was the only chopper flight where heavy duty ear protection gear was mandatory. Sadly, because I really enjoy flying by helicopter, I have had more fixed-wing flights in a greater number of types of fixed-wing aircraft than I ever have had with helicopters. Although I’ve flown most of the big names of the time (Sikorsky, Westland, Aerospatiale, Augusta), and I’ve probably had more chopper flights than most people, but I’ve not flown as many (or as much) as I would have liked. Many years ago, when I invested a few pennies in a biotech start-up (which, sadly, went nowhere), I had dreams of the company going IPO and with my resulting millions (ha ha) buy either a helicopter or a plane with a fairly decent range (e.g. UK - US for the plane). Tragically (sob, sob) my dreams were dashed and the closest I have ever been to owning a helicopter or a plane is acquiring the Airfix equivalent. Mind you, even if I had won the “business investment lottery”, I don’t think I would have gotten approval from Mrs ID for the purchase. As, quite rightly, she said that buying it was one thing, maintaining it and covering the expenditures for it was another. I know that many on ER have a significant other that grumbles, more or less good-naturedly, about expenditures on model railways, but in comparison with flying, sailing and riding (equestrianism), our yearly, cumulative, model railway spend is mere peanuts. Now, if you will excuse me I have to dash down to the Ticino to see a man about a second hand Alpi Syton AH 130, which he claimed was used by a careful old lady pilot only for transporting her grandchildren to the seaside on weekends. Cheers iD p.s. See here: http://www.alpiaviation.com/en/models.htm?mod=Syton AH 130 Helicopter Many of these tales of flight feature the glories of the menus served on board. A lot are critical of food quality which probably represents life as it is today in this era of fast foods getting even faster and eaten faster still. In the post prop era of the sixties it wasn't quite as bad as I fondly recall Lufthansa flight from San Francisco to Heathrow on a new 707. As soon as one boarded, drinks were served (free of charge in those heady days), papers or magazines were offered as well as the obligatory pillow. Lunch was soon offered and the screen was lowered in the front of the cabin for the movie which in those days was definitely family friendly. After it was nap time followed by drinks before dinner. Dinner was the usual chicken meat or fish. Meat was filet mignon which was my choice! Now in the dark, probably somewhere over Iceland or thereabouts, some were stirring and the queue to the bathroom was getting longer, breakfast was offered, egg something and a lot of coffee! Had a look out the window in the morning light at the mists and green fields of England and soon it was buckle up time. Comfortable flight, the cabin staff were great, the 'stews' pretty and the only problem was the cigarette smoke in the cabin but on arrival the air smelled good. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2020 Greetings. I haven't posted here for a while - no dramatic reason, just a load of niggling things that succeeded in lowering the mojo level but now receding so my mood has improved. All the talk about whose long haul flying experience was the worst made me smile. Try UK to the Falklands in the cockpit of a Phantom or Tornado F3 with a stopover at Ascension. In flight catering consisted of a packet of sarnies and a small carton of orange juice while entertainment was provided by the odd spot of midair refuelling but the view was good. getting the joints to work well enough to get out of the cockpit after landing was fun as well. Mind you, UK to Cyprus in the back of a C-130 was right up there with root canal treatment too. Dave 2

Baz Dentists and emergency only. Similar to Barry - filling broke January ; appointment March - cancelled for good reason. Later, August, telephoned and was given an appointment for September. On the due day, arrived at the pay car park and at the appointed time I appeared to find the door closed ... pushed the bell for message, told them that I had arrived for my new 'filling' appointment only to be told "We are only open for emergencies". No further appointment and now a second filling is no longer in place ... Aircraft - only DC3; VC10; BA111; Vanguard, are all that I remember although a trip to Switzerland for a course, must be approaching 30 years ago by now, involved three aircraft out and three back. Did not write them down and cannot remember any of them now. Just remembered a Dakota even earlier than the VC10 and DC3. 7

Popular Post Simon G
The last two days have been dominated by dental appointments for me. Yesterday I had a hygienist appointment, which is rather akin to having to pay loads of money for what feels like extreme torture at the time! Whilst out, I decided to have a trip to the nearest tip, sorry household waste recycling centre, so that we could get rid of a load of stuff we have had for years, and never used or are likely to be used. There was a queue to get to the tip, and it took about 45 minutes in total, but the view from the approach road must be one of the best views from a tip in England! Picture attached, and shows Ennerdale valley (lake not visible), with the surrounding hills on both sides. Today’s dental trip was to Kendal, to get my crown reattached to the implant. The crown was previously secured with adhesive, but kept coming off, so it is now screw retained. I just hope that this is finally the end of my problems with this particular tooth. We drove home through the lakes for a change, which was a nice run, but we were delayed for 30 minutes after a crash closed the A591 at Thirlmere. It looked like a car had clipped a wall and then careered into a car coming from the opposite direction. Fortunately no one appeared to be hurt, but both cars were pretty mangled. Just the sort of thing that makes you relieved to get home safely. 6

Dave So you were off to join 1435 flight, first time down we were met by phantoms subsequent flights by F3s. At least on the Timmy or Tommy flight you could go in the duty free bar on the airport, and have a few kingfishers before leg 2, safe in the knowledge that the loos were one thing the RAF didn't rip out of the Tristars.. otherwise catering was the same. 11 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2020 Good evening everyone Well I’d only been back from the Trafford Centre about 25 minutes when it once again started to rain. But as I’d no plans to go out again today, it didn’t really matter. We had a brief spell of sunshine in the afternoon, but later we had a heavy shower and some hailstones too! This was followed by more sunshine and more heavy rain. I couldn’t get through to the doctors on the phone (what a surprise, not!) so I sent a email via their ‘contact my GP service’. I’m not very impressed, as I didn't hear from that either. So much for the “we usually contact you within the hour’ service, what service? So my plan is to ring my oncologist’s secretary on Monday and ask her when they wrote and sent the letter to the surgery. I’ll then get in touch with the surgery to find out what’s happening. As you may all guess, I’m not a happy bunny! Goodnight all. 2
