RMweb Premium AndyB Posted October 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2020 So 747s. My first trip was Rome to Tokyo back when I popped over quite regularly. The 747 was decorated in the Baci style which was, erm, different. It was a bit on the rickety side and the in-flight movie screen was around 30 feet away. Not too bad but the cabin crew settled down to watch the film and blocked my view. Cathay's 747 was a different kettle of fish. Smart aircraft and professional cabin service. HK to Tokyo. BA never again. Virgin Atlantic - excellent. Brize Norton Airways (Tristar) - highly rated for their bacon sarnies. 13

Quite a few trips to the States...one included the Herbert's who had a trip to the flight deck... Last 747 flight.heathrow to Singapore Prefer the 747 to a 777 due to the better flight characteristics of the Jumbo.. no where as good as the A380..and the A350 types are good. RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted October 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2020 I flew BA 747 back when BA were good....AirNZ were good, TWA disgusting, Middle East Airlines...errr....budget perhaps would be polite, but stunning cabin crew on old 720B's. Swissair, yes OK, KLM good, PanAm awful. Must have flown others but it all fades.....oh yeah Quantas, average. All these are years ago of course, nowadays it has usually been Flymaybe, but they're Flynotatall now! tigerburnie
Evening, the day turned out quite nice, we went for a walk to the Lighthouse at Montrose, took my camera hoping for a Dolphin, but none to be seen, went for a wander in the forest later, which was quiet as well, a sort of busy doing nothing sort of day..............which was nice.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted October 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 8, 2020 Flew Singapore Airlines 747 Heathrow - Changi - Melbourne. Not the most comfortable trip of the 20-plus rounders I have made over that route though I have to say the trolley service was faultless. We remember that flight for another reason; that was the occasion SWMBO developed food poisoning within 24 hours of landing and which was attributed to the in-flight cutlery. The airline were less than empthetic and all we got by way of apology was a box of chocolates and a block of four seats to ourselves on the first return leg from Melbourne to Singapore. Since when we have normally used Emirates though not exclusively. Car has been acquired; coincidentally the same vehicle we hired last time around but with 5000 more miles on the clock. Moggy has been deposited at the Cat Hotel with a modicum of protest and discontent. Bags have been packed. Flowers have been distributed among neighbours much to their delight and we still have an impressive bouquet to take with us. What SWMBO doesn't yet know is that more flowers have been ordered to be awaiting our arrival!!! I shall be on very limited internets and without wi-fi for the next week. My appearances here may be few and far between. I wish one and all safe travels through the pandemic and across this space-time continuum until I return. 11 4

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2020 (edited) Evening all from Estuary-Land. Dinner was chicken and mushroom pie and chips, no use by date lottery tonight. My first overseas flight was with Dan-Air, in a Comet that went straight to the scrapyard when we got home. The captain informed us that it was that particular aircrafts last trip for Dan-Air. That was for a Musical Beds Club 18-30 holiday in Greece, for the sake of decency I will say no more . The next years holiday was to Malta, I can't remember what aircraft it was, possibly a Trident. The next year was the longest haul flight I had ever been on, 10 hours to Barbados in a Caribbean Airlines 707 though there was nothing Caribbean except the name on the outside as it was 'wet-leased' from BA IIRC. Only thing was there was no film for technical reasons and the flight was a bit boring. Which I am probably doing to you all so I'll be back later. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 8, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 8, 2020 Evening all, Have a good away time Rick - Cornwall so far looks safe and don't forger that Kernow's Camborne branch is currently click & c'lect as the shop is still closed to punters due to the impossibility of arranging the necessary distancing. 747 - only three trips. LHR to Sydney and back with BA in one of their machines and upgraded to Club on the outward which was pretty good return in Cattle Plus wasn't too uncomfortable but the 'food' loaded at Sydney was near inedible although the re-suppluy at Bangkok wasn't too bad. Next trip to Aus was in Cathay Pacific's Business Class on a 747 top deck and the service was top rate as was the Business lounge in HK. The return trip was on an A340 and it was like a different world - far quieter than the 747 and much more comfy again with top notch cabin service. 14
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted October 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2020 Good evening everyone Well the seaweed twirlers got it right and the weather was indeed fine enough for me to spend most of it outside. I managed to get the shelving rebuilt and installed back in the shed just after 12 o’clock. However, before I put it back into the shed, I needed to remove quite a bit of stuff, such as pressure washer, wheelbarrow, bags of compost etc, oh and my bike. Once clear I decided to sweep the floor as it’s a lot easier when the floor is clear. I then started restocking it and was about halfway trough when I took a break for dinner. The task was completed after dinner and the extra shelf has made a big difference, it looks a lot tidier and there’s a lot less wasted space between the shelves too. It also means that I’ve been able to move stuff from the cellar and from the workshop to the shed, slowly but surely the cellar is starting to be emptied! Goodnight all. 14

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all The street where I live is a one-way street and has been for about three years. Traffic is permitted northbound except for cyclists who are allowed to pedal southbound as well. At the north end are poles on each side of the road, each bearing the familiar No Entry sign. The legend “No Entry” is painted on the road surface in white letters a foot high. The uninitiated might think that these precautions would be sufficient to inform and even deter aspiring southbound drivers. Nevertheless we had a southbound driver yesterday. I spotted her while I was moving my wheelie bin which had just been emptied. All I could do was yell “one way street, madam”. She stopped her car and wound down the window. Thankfully it fell to one of my neighbours to explain. I did not hang around to watch her trying to turn the car round in what is quite a narrow street even without cars parked outside every house. Instead I went indoors, pondering as I did so the value of adult literacy classes. Yesterday there was laundry, so as certainly as night follows day there will be ironing today. Neither of these seminal activities gets me out of the house but the fodder run does and will take place this morning. I had been hoping that there would be some return next week to the normal round of society meetings but the think-of-a-number policy of those who rule us has scuppered that. Virtual meetings are a credit to all concerned but sitting in front of a screen for the duration is no substitute for the live speaker in a church hall with projector glitches which is so much more sociable and – all together now – gets me out of the house. Best wishes to all, except those who drive the wrong way down a one-way street Chris 16

No wind, and if it stays that way I'll be up a ladder fitting roof tiles.. The landrover needs unloading into the garage, I may look at the alleyway entrance to see if it's dry enough to work on if it's not, then to the garage for shelf building.. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2020 Good moaning to all. It's nearly light enough to draw the curtains. Rick and Sharon, I hope that you have a good break. Good luck with thevironing Chris I got mine done yesterday as itvwas supposed to becrsining. But it didn't. However in the afternoon I got two more foundation holes dug for the swing and the last one started. Some tidying in the shed and I found a bag of missing castings. Shortly I'm off out to meet the architect who supervised the reconstruction of a friends house in the village. The house owner is stuck in Chicago due to a mixture of Covid and Visa rules. Her mother is stuck in the UK due to Covid and family troubles so wexare having to do the snagging for them. There is apparently no retention system over here so I have to attempt to persuade the architect that the various points do need attending to. Some will be easy, such as the jammed gate locks, others may take some negotiation. Then it's back home to dig the last hole. This evening we're out for fish and chips. Have fun and stay safe. RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted October 9, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, Dry at the moment and the sun has made an appearance. Should be fine for most of the day but rain is forecast later this afternoon. We "need" to visit Sainsbury's this morning (no real surprise there) as magazines are required by her Bossness and she can't rely on the online shoppers not to pick out of date ones. The G word is being bandied about but I'll let her get on with that and I may visit my inner sanctum and contemplate the muddle that is my er.... muddle! Have a good one, Bob. Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from the most boring of boroughs. Thank F**K it is Friday. Another week of fustercluckery over. At least the 2 day course broke things up a bit. It was sort of dry enough last night to start cutting the new roof insulation for the shed. This is going to be a long and drawn out renovation as the shed is just too full of crap to be able to do any of the cutting inside. Oh well keeps me off the street. Tomorrow is an even numbered day so the plan is to load up the Disco and head to the tip at stupid o clock. After about 8:30 the queues are ridiculous. Seems the whole world is downsizing, revamping, and renovating at the moment. Last time we were there one chap managed to pull a whole Ikea media centre out of his little BMW. It must have been part Tardis. Today will be mostly listening to idiots managers pushing their own agendas onto this project. Trouble is, the thing is stupidly high profile. If we pull it off it will be a miracle, if it turns into a total sh*t show, you'll see it all over the media. I'm still trying to distance myself from the inevitable fall out. The technical term for this type of project is "CV stain". 747 was always my favourite aircraft. The bulk of my flying between Canada and the UK in the 70s and 80s was by 747. Wardair. Possibly the best airline ever. I have to say that as "Uncle" Max was a family friend. Time for coffee. Enjoy the day. 18 1 1
