tigerburnie
Morning all, proper raining stair rods out there, Tescos due to deliver later, so I doubt we will go far today, still buzzing after yesterdays wildlife adventure in the Cairngorms, watching wildlife at work even if a bit distant is certainly one step up from watching it on the goggle box. Enjoy your day and stay safe if you can.

And madam. You are two days ahead of us. We are still expecting to go away a week from now though it depends on Storm Boris. The weather and viral forecasts are not looking that good. SWMBO will still not enter any building she doesn’t absolutely have to which limits the scope for dining / drinking out with friends. I do have a series of surprises arranged starting with an picnic-at-home tonight delivered by our friends at HG Walter. Monday will see flowers delivered with several days to enjoy them before going away. It continues to rain relentlessly. The back remains uncomfortable. Give me three good reasons to get out of bed and on with the day. 1 1

As she doesn't "do" computers this meant that yours truly had to sit dutifully beside her and type out her orders etc. Only just finished! I will now try to get there after a much needed muggacoffee.... actually I'll take it with me before she thinks of something else. 2 1 1
Coombe Barton
Wet here. Plans today are to get on with the clearing so that next week's onslaught will give me space to put the floor tile delivery. The committee has decided on the colour so now it's just a case of me doing it.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. It certainly poured down last night and has only just stopped. Will have to venture out later for a few necessities but not much else to do but fit the catch to the ex coal shed door. I've found a problem with that in that I will have to remove the old catch and handle. There's probably a hidden screw or two somewhere and those that are visible are under several coats of paint. Time now for one more muggatee, be back later. 13

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted October 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2020 Afternoon awl, It was merely raining, but now qualifies as Dreich as its Misty as well.. On climbing the ladder I found the remains of a very broken hook for the telephone wire attachment, unable to remove it, I've screwed in a very large stainless screw bent into a hook for the wire. At least it means if something bigger than the landrover comes in it won't take the phone wire with it. This morning I observed the orange shed had deleted the entry for the blue mosaic tiles we were using in the BBQ area. So I paddled down to the BBq and counted the minimum number of tiles we need to make sensible finish to the pattern. I think we can just make it with what we've got. That does means we need something else for the other side of the patio. So do we go for a close match or a complete contrast? I have not heard from the jury on that yet... After that since I was wet anyway, I hoisted up the boat, a bit difficult as the wind kept twisting the boats position. Got there in the end, so the boat is now 32 inches above ground level instead of 12, allowing fitting the keel weight spreading plank to be fitted weather permitted. I should with a little digging be able to fit the keel as well. The Ben insisted I take him for the long walk,, wet comparatively warm, ideal mozzie weather, I got bitten 3 times on the face, once on an eyelid and once on a thumb going down the lane, so I resorted to cross country through the ex cornfield on the way back. A row of 8 large trees which were on the leeward side of the lane were all toppled, some had snapped, some pulled up their roots , they are down in the small valley, that must have been some gust that snapped the oak tree in our garden, took tiles off our roof, and blew down those trees. Of the tiles I've discovered they are a French design, that were common 100+ years ago, I've found one place with them 50 miles away, but I'll try the nearer in Norwich reclaim yard first. The farmer has extended the concrete pan with building rubble which from observation includes white and blue wall tiles , glass and..., 1 Lego brick. During the typing of this, a glass of red has disappeared , I will. Now see if the mozzie has got through my eye lids.. 15

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted October 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2020 Flu Jab now completed. Bear was very brave (image to protect) and didn't utter so much as a wimper (ok - maybe a teeny one). The efficiency of the surgery was astounding - in a few minutes early, jab done, out the door. Time taken? Less than 2 minutes, start to finish. Highly impressed. 9/10 Why the lost point? No Lolly Just scoffed a Saveloy, Chip Roll and beans, plus a couple of custard creams. Bear weighed in at 83/84Kg back in March, now down to 72Kg Diet? Dream on. Exercise? Nope. Garden and DIY? Yep. Not much on the kitchen today; I'm pondering the next bit. Many moons ago (almost 25 years) I added a radiator to the system (for the then new conservatory) - certain plumbing skills (such as bending of clever pipework shapes) were somewhat low at that time and a particularly awkward bit was adding two pipes coming thru' the kitchen ceiling from the upstairs bedroom radiator. The position of a floor joist didn't help this task. I cheated and used plumbing stick: https://www.screwfix.com/p/flexible-copper-plumbing-stick-15-x-x-300mm/61598?tc=PB3&ds_kid=92700055281954514&ds_rl=1249404&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl-rczbiY7AIVGs93Ch3dCg2LEAQYASABEgL6sPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds - which is basically easily bendable copper tubing. Of course everything comes at a price - in this case the price being the fact that the copper is somewhat thinner than rigid tubing. Now in fairness it's been as good as gold and caused no issues; however those pipes are now to be boxed in prior to the kitchen being plastered - so any future issues would spoil my day somewhat. So...leave well alone or "do the job properly"? It's somewhat clouded by the fact that the upstairs bedroom floor would need to be lifted (only a couple of screwed down floorboards in a small area next to the outside wall, below the radiator). Only this room has a couple of kitchen cabinets to be shifted first (as the room is the workshop/railway room) , skirting unscrewed (easy) and some laminate floor lifted first..... Decisions, decisions..... 3
Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where the rain has departed and the sun is fighting to break through the clouds. It has certainly rained a lot of the past 36 hours. i managed to go for a few beers at the Hackney Carriage followed by a curry earlier this week- that is the first time I have been to the pub in more than 6 months; I thought I would go before it all gets locked. down again; in the same spirit Mrs Lurker has gone to her sister’s for the weekend; they were supposed to get together with the MiL but she lives in Washington so cannot mix with other households. in other news the CFO contrary to my cynical expectations did not back down and dump me in it; instead he backed me to the hilt and criticised those who were moaning for trying to look after their own interests and not trying to optimise the value for the shareholders! And as we are an employee owned company, that’s actually a very strong comment! nevertheless I am glad it is the weekend even if continues to be chore-filled. Soon I need to go to marinate some chicken in olive oil, garlic and sumac, I am going to chargrill that as an accompaniment to a spiced carrot and chickpea tagine that I am foisting on the Lurker boys tonight. ID might recognise the tagine as it is from a recipe book he recommended to me. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2020 I managed a couple of miles in the mizzle while Debs was Pilates'd, then the rain really got going and now it is officially persisting down. Minor shopping done, brunch again was not at the veggie/vegan/still hungry place as it was heaving, so up the Glen to the Pavillion for eggs benedict. Yum. Now back home looking at the rain and trying to motivate self to go to garage and either tidy up (much needed, I am the untidiest man in the world), clean one or more of the bikes or work on the layout wot can't be mentioned here. Debs is painting archery targets, for tomorrows shoot, then next week it is a new venue with all 3D targets (foam full size animals) that the club has secured for a competition.

Well, that depends on your idea of a normal life. If: a normal life involves tramping 10 miles a day over the fells keeping tabs on your sheep, or a normal life involves a full English breakfast in the morning and pie and chips and six pints in the pub in the evening, you're probably right.
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted October 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2020 Afternoon All Chuckinitdarn, but not a great deal of wind - however, it was enough to stop Lily from wanting her afternoon walkies. Apologies for absence, but not had time to logon here, so many pages missed, and not all posts have been read or rated. Went to Lancaster this morning with 30747, then back to measure up - she has seen a doll's house which is utterly amazing - hand made, with all hand made contents - but it is eye wateringly expensive, and we are in negotiation with the dealer over the price and cost of carriage as it is in the West Midlands, and we are in Lancashire. It is, however, pretty large, and we need to be sure that it will fit - it stands some 3' tall. If we do get it, that will probably set the modelling fund back, but hey ho, you only live once, and if she wants it, it really is a one off, and if she gets it, I will post an image here for all to see. I've got to say that it really is beautifully done. Regards to All Stewart 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted October 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2020 Lummy.. it is stillchuckinitdarn.. not as much as the hoyingitdown earlier but enough to make it really soggy in our front lake garden. .. yes a suitably muddy muddy hollow for Hippos! My family did have quantities of money at certain times in history. The ones who moved to Lambeth owned a shop and formed a company apparently..more digging to do on that side of the family. It now transpires that one of the Policemen on that side of the family (seems like the Met Police were a home for several people on that side of the family) has done a fair bit of digging.. I await his input! Now time to have a coffee... Baz 19

The ground lights were on until almost 10 this morning illustrating how gloomy it was. They have just turned themselves back on as they are controlled by a photoelectric device of some sort. Minor works are being carried out to the m***l in the hope that I can get a video of it in working order ready for a virtual event in December. In other news a sofa arrived for New Neighbours (Top Flat) earlier. The geography of the staircase caused Mr Delivery Person enough trauma that he left to sofa outside in the rain. The trick - as I was able to advise its new owners - is to up-end it and work it around the corners vertically. I was able to get a rigid three-person sofa up and later down from there before so a "soft" one should have posed no problems. Ah well. Just a case of knowing how to do something. I know how to make a muggercoffy. It is time ........ 19
