He is here, large as life and twice as [insert preferred adjective]. Updating Windows 10 is not a rapid process, expecially when it is installed on a seven year old laptop. While it was doing what it had to do I had a long hot wallow and a nice bowl pf porridge, garnished with prunes. Many thanks to those who were concerned. Anyway, greetings one and all! I had my flu jab yesterday afternoon. Administering the dose was Nurse Laura, who is very jolly and would therefore be no good as a receptionist. The venue was not, as I had supposed, a temporary gazebo beside Stalag Surgery but the back entrance to the treatment room. So far, touch wood, my right arm does not ache, but these are early days. A long time ago now I went to a pub near East Croydon station to see the fine Flemish musicians Trio Dhoore. Sadly in 2021 they will be calling it a day after 10 years together. One of them has released a solo CD and you will not be surprised to learn that a copy is on its way to me. I have missed the steady trickle of CDs that I bring home from festivals. Fortunately I am on a number of mailing lists which stop me being totally unaware of what’s going on. I would rather see my favourite musicians in concert and buy the CD as a souvenir but these are troubled times. Social distancing has made so much impossible. The news of a beer festival at St Pancras is intriguing and may have an interesting outcome .... RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2020 Good morning all, Very wet and windy here at GDB Towers as Storm Alex does his thing. A strange thing happened earlier. As the wind and rain were battering the front of the house I heard a plinking noise from the bedroom and The Boss's Echo Dot thingy lights were flashing different colours. Stupid me says "Hey Alexa, what are you doing?" Alexa says " I'm bimbling around the clouds singing to myself, Tra-la-la-la-la." Perhaps Alexa was trying to talk to Alex? I really must get out more! (or take more water with it) We have actually got two flu jabs booked. Two weeks ago I phoned the surgery to enquire and they said they hadn't a clue when they'd get the vaccine but were hoping it would be in October. They suggested I tried booking at a pharmacy. Fair enough I thought so I booked jabs for me and The Boss at the Lloyds Pharmacy in Sainsbury's mid October. The other day I got a text from the surgery giving me an appointment for one on Saturday 10th (It must be RMweb day). However nothing for The Boss. Phoned them and was told oh we're working through the list gradually and doing them at different times. I said that was a bit daft as we've got the same surname, live at the same address and we're the same age. After a bit of "discussion" it was agreed that she could come with me and be done at the same time. I was going to cancel the pharmacy one then heard on the news about vaccine shortages so I won't cancel until we've definitely had ours. Does that count as stockpiling or is it a sensible precaution? Sounds like the Sainsbury's visit has been put on hold due to the weather. Have a good one and keep your feet dry. Bob. 21
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Storm Alex will mean that I will be staying in today. The G word is out of the question but if the forecast is anything to go by I might be watching the Dawlish beach cam, should be interesting. Kettle is on so its be back later.

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2020 Morning. It would appear, that for a change we are in the centre of the storm, and thus have a still, but cool morning. Very dewey, not the decimal type, and 7c 'warming' to 9 currently, but sunny. So bike to the club, but I doubt it will be a long ride out afterwards. Shame about Trumpy eh? I wonder if all the deny-ers will alter their tune at all after their darling has got it. 17
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2020 Morning all. Wet and windy here. My garage was damp a couple of days ago. I traced the leak to a failing waterstop connector on a hose. Unusually I had not turned the water off at the tap. So I ordered a new connector. I could not fit it to the hose, as the hose was a smaller diameter, it is a springy concertina type that doesn’t seem to be available. No amount of hot water or soap would enable the hose to stretch onto the new standard connector. So I have given up and ordered a nice wall mounted hose which will be one less thing to trip over in the garage. Tony 7

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2020 Good morning everyone Dull, dry and very little wind, although that may all change as the day progresses! It’s Friday, which means bin day, both have already been emptied so my first task will be to see where they have left them, it’s never where they collected them from! Following that I’ll take a walk to the butchers to collect the weekly meat rations and a pastie for my dinner. After that it’s a trip to the Trafford Centre for a few more provisions, I may well have company for that trip, unless Sheila changes her mind, which she has been known to do before now. The afternoon will see us/me drop (maintaining a social distance of course) of Vickie and Ian’s anniversary present round and wishing them a happy anniversary for tomorrow, that year’s gone quick! After that there are no firm plans, so a spot of reading may well take place. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. The less that Trump says, the better of his chance of winning. Not unique to the US of course. I am a great believer that most elections are lost rather than won. There is another potential benefit. If the remaining TV "debates" are done remotely, the mediator will have total control of the sound and can stop the endless interruptions which made the "debate" so totally pointless this week. 12

They now sell trains as well . . . I was amazed a couple of weeks ago in WHSmiffs reading room to find the latest copy of their catalogue with a photo of a Hornby Flying Scotsman on the front cover. A look at their website shows that they now stock Hornby, Bachmann, Gaugemaster, Woodland Scenics and Peco. I haven't checked any prices but assume everything will be list price and so not so attractive to the dedicated modellers on RMweb. I guess they are trying to appeal to the new lockdown modellers who would use 'Hobbies' as a search term for mail order. https://www.hobbies.co.uk/crafts/books-and-dvds/the-2021-hobbies-handbook-catalogue Mike Edited October 2, 2020 by Mike Bellamy 9 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2020 (edited) Morning all, Automatic, cost free, refilling of water butts now in operation - shame it's a bit late in the year but Alex is being very generous, too generous in fact. I'm not sure about today's Tesco trip although it is in any event above my pay grade but it was talked about by the management and good Doctor so something might happen. It will be interesting to see if the pharmacy have turned my latest order into the reality of boxes of pills because they weren't handed to herself yesterday despite the fact that the surgery passed on the request on Tuesday - time will tell no doubt. Little else to report although it looks like the lad can forget a recruitment trip to Poland judging by the latest news. However is seems to be quite ok to travel from Scotland to England and back by train if you have symptoms or to host a dinner party for eight people. The only qualification is that you have to be an MP - there's a surprise. Oh and in the interests of balance it seems you can also go into a shop while not wearing a mask if your son is an MP. (Sorry if that's considered political but it references three different political parties so is hopefully balanced) Back to earth and have. a good day one and all and do yiour best to stay safe. The $64,000 question here is whether or not I get in the quarantined shopping from the garage room - it does include a restocking quantity of several tins of Branson baked beans with sausages. RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2020 Nearly Afternoon all, As last week's day off was bisected due to wanting to sort out a colleague's IT problem I'm reclaiming it shortly. My intention I was to intersperse taxing duties with a bit of mudelling. I also have to write a set of simple instructions for mum's new phone. You've probably experienced similar, but typical behaviours include: 1 switching it off to save the battery. Hey whatever is now my position 2. phoning me with a question, saying she can't hear me and turning the phone off immediately to prevent a call back. This used to be to get me to drive straight round to her hone to find out what the panic was. Generally none whatsoever and she had a pendant if needed. As she is now locked down in a home my position on this is now, sadly, the same as 1 above. I'm not going to be made to feel guilty anymore especially as there's no way I can visit her in person. Thanks for reading that.
RMweb Premium Popular Post NGT6 1315 Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2020 Cheers all. It was a fairly slow morning here, probably indicative of how much I require rest these days. I limited myself to checking the heating controller settings and vacuuming some dirt from the car. Way-hey. A holiday weekend beckons, so I’ll need to buy a few things to complete the menu. Elise, Annika and FiL went to the food market earlier for the main ingredients. I also bought a kit of garden pipeline equipment earlier this week in order to install a pop-up sprinkler on the lawn, as well as a hose connector ground socket. Weather permitting, I may choose to get to that, too. Be safe, folks. Later... 21
