RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Had a check on the Dawlish cam, heavy seas but no waves crashing over the railway line, I'll have another look later. Time for an eyelid inspection, be back later.
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2020 A'noon. Bike ride was a pleasant 40 miles or so, interrupted by a coffee stop. 6 players today, more than usual actually on bikes, there's about 30 sitting on their backsides talking about it though. Poly, don't be lonely, there's always company on here for bears. 28 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2020 Afternoon Awl, Well todays work has been hit and miss, but it's getting there I've had to suspend operations for now as the next section takes longer than I have left at work today. Had it just been one CT unit to do, I would have stayed for the extra few minutes, but there is another to run and that takes 3 hours so there's no point.. The possible new deputy head of lab man is here, and I met him for a few minutes while he was being taken for the grand tour. He seems nice enough, he has a slight accent and a name which indicates he's from somewhere on the eastern side of Europe originally. Last weeks New major system has finally been handed over, the boss worked out the problem, and has sorted it. The problem wasn't me.. Time to go do my time sheet.. 22

Ian Abel
POETS... excellent So, our attempt to help folks prepare for the streaming Cabaret fund-raiser was a whopping success, three of us ready to answer the calls, eager to help, on the button at 7PM, first call at 7:03, solved and on our way...."pizza... lager...<repeat several times>" ... 9:45PM, OK, I think we can go home now, doesn't seem like anyone else heeds help! Yep, ONE CALL all night. At least it was a chance to see a few people I've only seen on Zoom for months. The musicians were GREAT, and all social distancing effectively managed. Today, evening with our friends, more wine and food, and we're rebooting "Schitt's Creek", starting over, it's a great show IOHO (In Our Humble Opinion) ... Tomorrow will be working on electrickery for the shed, then off to our Cabaret in the evening. Several of us are running the "help line" again ahead of the show, and the committee are all going to be at two-person tables during the show, so an in-person audience of maybe 12 instead of the usual 650! https://www.saintjoanofarc.org/news/cabaret-2020 This just in from the White House kitchen, on the menu today - CROW Just 2 first thing, outer ring suburbs got their first frost of the season, partly cloudy and a high of 10 forecast. Enjoy the start of the weekend everyone. 18

We use ours all the time for controlling lights in the house, the shed, garden and also at Mums, yep even installed one at her place but we have had to put a sticker with its name so Mum can remember what to say. We even take Alexa on holiday - have one with USA settings (that wont get used this year) and one for general travel elsewhere. Alexa can also answer the door bell / camera from the shed and I use them to listen to music. Great devices but some of our friends with a strong accent cant get them to work properly. one car in for MOT and service but a last minute check of the battery shows it needs replacement and at 12 years old worth getting done for the winter and upcoming drive around the country dodging lockdown areas. The only problem is that the battery is on its way to the garage for tomorrow morning so car left in overnight. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Another day of doing sod all, well not quite, I've been sorting out a door catch for the ex coal store. The original does not hold the door shut tightly due to wear and if the door swung shut when I was inside I'd be trapped. I do usually pin the door back and I keep tools in the shed that can open the door but better the spring catch that I have lined up to go on the door. 5 minutes ago, polybear said: Getting "encountered" in a revolving door with Julie Andrews sounds like fun. Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Been at work for most of day and weather has been ok up here, cool, bit of sunshine but no rain. Tomorrow the forecast isn’t so favorable so not sure what’s been planned. I think gardening was on the agenda but we’ll have to wait and see. VAT return is going to be have to been done over the next couple of days so that could be an alternative. I’ve not done anything in the shed for a number of weeks but may try to get something done over the weekends. It’s SWMBOs birthday in a couple of weeks and we’re trying to decide whether it’s worth going off in the motor home for a couple of days up to North Yorkshire. The vans not taxed so it’s debatable whether it’s really worth the expense as I can’t see us using it again until next spring. We could try a hotel but we’dfeel safer in our motor home. Anyway that’s enough for today, Goodnight Robert 1 1

We really need the US elections to take place normally and for Trump to be given a good kicking by the US electorate (not that Biden seems very impressive as a candidate). Trump not being able to campaign compromises that. Although its looking good, its not a sure thing! Biden, nice guy that he is, is a bit late going door belling - he spent too long behind the mask. Trumpie is known for dirty tricks aided by his cronies and he still has his base which is the same as last time, he has never been able to attract many to his cause but then we have the whims of the so called electoral college which gave him the edge the last general election. Then there is the general morass of black lives matter and the radical right and left, which might sway the result one way or the other. So, go with Joe, you have seen the alternative! 9 3

Baz, thanks for the shout out. I am still kicking. A week ago I had decided to spend a couple of days at the coast. We've had mostly delightful weather but I picked the first major rainstorm of the Autumn/Winter seasons and the drive over was horrendous with very limited visibility at times. A couple of ERs are familiar with the Pelican on the beach at Pacific City. Open but a strange experience in these CoViD days. Simply crossing the street from the pub after dinner, the right side of my trousers were saturated. The rain was almost horizontal. Ian @roundhouse might like to know that their Märzenbier (Bronze God) was very good (bottled six packs were also locally available), as was the "Turkey bird" a red/amber ale aged in Wild Turkey whiskey barrels. Despite the early harbinger of the coming La Niña weather pattern (wetter and cooler than "normal", whatever that is anymore), since then we've had unseasonably (yet delightful) warm temperatures. The otherwise blue skies were mitigated by a wind shift to the south which brought high-altitude California wildfire smoke. In the last couple of days, sunlight had an exceptionally yellow or orange cast depending on the time of day but locally, air quality has not exceeded "moderate" levels of pollution. Local forest fires continue to burn too, but are not presently threatening inhabited areas. We completed our 2019-2020 rain year about 8" shy of normal rainfall - leading to drought conditions (such as they are in the Northwest) that exacerbated wildfires. Hopefully a La Niña influenced 2020-2021 rain year will see something closer to normal rainfall. Meanwhile the craziness of 2020 in the US continues with one "October surprise" after another. 19 1

tigerburnie
Evening all, had a glorious sunny day, so we went for a drive into the Cairngorms, taking pictures from the car, stopping first of course. We saw some fantastic scenes including 2 Golden Eagles hunting Red Grouse, never seen them this close before, the pictures are rubbish, the birds were moving too quickly, but great to see. Erichill16
Thanks for advice chaps. I’ll let SWMBO decide but I’m sure she’s going to say motor home or nothing but may try Bazs suggestion after the panic is over. We often go to Leyburn but the site there is popular and is booked up for her birthday. Seems wierd even contemplating going off when there is so much talk of ‘lockdown’, seems a bit reckless. I’m trying to make up for last year, it was special birthday for SWMBO last year and she went to Skipton on her own for the day! I was left in the dog house. Poly bears idea seems good on the surface but once we’ve taxed the van we say ‘we’ll not cancel as we can go off again next month‘ etc but in effect we rarely do. Must admit been off in it in November when I used to go to the IPMS event in Telford. I thought I was tired early but now I can get my head down sleep doesn’t want to come, typical. Been looking around on ebay for a bargain but couldn’t find anything and watched a clip about Tinsley yard on YouTube. Can’t be bothered looking at the news, I’m sick of hearing about Trump and his COVID situation. Goodnight again, Robert
