If you felt the earth wobble on its axis yesterday afternoon, it was not another earthquake in Leighton Buzzard but me doing a bit of m*d*ll*ng.  In the process I discovered that one of my craft knives is missing.  I'm sure it will turn up but I managed without it.  Later I might just up-end the toolbox and apply the first law of ladies' handbags.  As doubtless you know, this states that whatever you want is at the bottom.

 

I found last night's BBC1 documentary on Freddie Flintoff and his relationship with bulimia most fascinating.  There is much more to this condition than I had imagined and I do not envy anyone afflicted with it.  Sadly more people have eating disorders than realise that they have them.  Even more sadly, some of them won't be told - no, not me but someone dear to me.  It must be uncomfortable to be in denial.

 

Today I plan to brave the supermarket again.  It will soon be time not to buy any more salad stuff if indeed it isn't already.  Then what?  Unspecified pottering, I suspect.  Composing this little homily has been hampered by the desire of my fingers to type in fluent Crabtree.  I hope there is a cure.

4.5 hours sleep plus one and a bit later, not enough..

 

Did you miss me again?.. yep another 7+ hours without power, it returned at 21:20, just as I was preparing to settle for the night on the sofa.. The neighbour bailed out to go stay at a friends house some miles away..

The phone men didn't returen to finsih the line repairsas they promised.. hello... is fluent crabtree catching/.

 

Without power meant sandwiches again, it proves the bread is affecting my sugar levels badly, poking a hole in my finger in the dark and getting the splat of blood in the right place on the test strip by torch light was fun...  Note the bread is the recommended granary variety..

 

The flooding at Wroxham is still in place causing traffic jams as some people are panicking at driving through 4 inches of water slowing to an absolute crawl or driving on the wrong side of the road causing that side to back up as well.. Much of the broads has got very high water levels just overtopping the banks in many places..

 

Time I went and did some more work on this problematic equipment,

Unexpected rain overnight has put the kybosh on SWMBO's gardening plans for the day. Tis a shame as she needs to harvest the worm compost in order to move the wormery to make space for the sheets of insulation that I have yet to get around to cutting to install inside the shed's roof space. Sheets that would have been cut today on my lunch break if it wasn't so bloody soggy in the garden. It also slows down our plans on heading to the tip with a pile of rubbish as soaking bags of garden cuttings, bits of wet wood, and other wet crap aren't going in the Landy until they dry off a bit. Tarp or no tarp.

Good morning everyone 

 

It’s foggy outside, I wasn’t expecting that!

 

Breakfast has been consumed and as soon as I’ve finished my muggertea I’ll set off for ‘The Christie’ for my request per blood letting session. Hopefully all should go well, but as I was only requested yesterday to appear at today’s blood clinic, I don’t have a letter with my appointment time to show the check in staff, so it could be interesting! If there is any difficulty, I’ve been told to ring the oncologist’s secretary directly and she’ll sort it out, so it’s fingers crossed. 

 

As for the rest of the day, there are no firm plans, but possibly a bit more pottering about in the workshop. 

 

Baz. Wish Mrs O a happy birthday.

No Problem with the 3 freezers, the fridge freezer in the kitchen , nor the two chest freezers in the unheated (frost stat only) conservatory. All are full at the moment which helps.. A working freezer should last 24 hours without power easily, if unopened, and since we couldn't cook anything anyway they stayed closed...

Many happy returns to Mrs Baz.  Also fear not for the two residents of Hipposhire. Biggles was due to have some sort of 'oscopy' yesterday and the pachyderm is alive and well though afflicted by too many panneers.

 

The garden gate , top end, was finished and hung yesterday and a start was made on winterising the pool. More photo files were organised. I'm now sorting out 2000 to 2008 and my trainspotting books have become a source of date knowledge by enabling me to place holidays accurately.  Getting the year is usually quite easy, the month, and thus the order of the films is less so. However the task is going well.  

 

On another front the dreaded virus has arrived to visit the family of my eldest's future in laws. They are all Telfs, HH beware, and 2 of them have just tested positive. One displayed Telf behaviour by refusing to go to hospital when his other half called an ambulance for him. All we can do is offer support to Katie, who fortunately,  is safely 120 miles away in Lincoln.

 

The ironing awaits so some suitable aural anaesthetic will be chosen.

When the autumness increases to 10c or so a ride out is in order I think, might be one of the last chances for a pleasant visit to somewhere for lunch, maybe all the way south to the Sound aka Lands End Manxie stylee.  Its a long way you know!

 Was a nice dry day yesterday so grass was cut in both ours and next doors garden then a bit of undergrowth clearance for next door resulting in a pile of gravel being shifted from there to another area by the shed that will get paved ready for the outside bar to be built in the coming weeks. Good job that I did that yesterday as its now raining here.

 

Yesterday late afternoon we headed to Morrisons but with the Southbound Reigate Hill shut for 14 weeks our route to Reigate is much busier. However that was made much worse due ot a 3 way temporary lights with no road work visible. That added well over 10 minutes to our journey which is normally about 5 minutes. I hate to think what it was like after 8pm as the A23 near us was shut for resurfacing but luckily for us we were walking back from beer in town with a fellow modeller. Last orders was called at 9pm and we were walking home by 9.45 after a fair few pints of Harveys Old.

 

This morning off to Mums with her weekly food shopping. Morrisons shelves a lot emptier than in previous weeks with some items such as bread rolls all gone. Also they have fewer check outs open in recent weeks and paritcularly bad yesterday so queued for quite some time. We may be having to go back to using Sainsburys.

Just received an email notification that a delivery of pasties from Cornwall are due today. If they are good then they wont last very long.

That is quite unusual as true Telf behaviour wound have been to ring all his mates and go down the pub to celebrate a positive result.

 

You only go to hospital at peak times when your next door neighbour's cousin's son in law has scraped his knee when falling over at the pub, and your journey to A&E is in a mutual support role.

 

Having said that, perhaps he will be going later on (with his mates).

Q, bread is one of the real BG killers.  I eat Burgen, which has less carbs, but only 2 slices a day max.  it also has less taste and less.....breadyness.....but it is better than nothing.  Rice and pasta are next in the list, cauli or soy substitutes are OK.

 

All the talk about wholegrain having less GI etc I find wrong, it make no difference whatsoever, but cutting the foodstuff out completely works!

Dull here and it was raining earlier.  It may brighten up later.

Many Happy Returns to Mrs. Baz.   

A not particularly significant birthday* is also being celebrated here by The Boss.   Breakfast, cards and presents have been delivered.  

Domestic cleansing is next on the agenda as Nicki, Gemma and Steve are visiting this evening for dinner.  This afternoon I have been tasked with making 2 variations of my "Sutton" pasties,  four with meat (one to takeaway to Abbie in quarantine) and 2 veggie.

Last night I was in a Zoom meeting with two old schoolfriends.  I learnt that one of my best friends from school (who I've only seen a couple of times since those days)  caught Covid 19 back in March and was very seriously ill.  He was eventually sent home after a long spell in hospital on a ventilator but soon had a relapse and was rushed back in.   Even now, six months on, he is still having serious breathing problems.  

I suppose I better go and find the bleach and start washing down the ablutions,

Happy Birthday Mrs Baz and Mrs GDB.

 

Not much to report here and hope that additional restrictions are not proving to arduous for those affected- we trust that is not the reason why they have not posted for a while -  and of course hope we do not have them here.  Quite a bit of overnight rain but at this moment - sunny.

 

Local club O gaugers now have DCC and are pontificating greatly.  The system is fail safe DC/DCC requiring the main power to be switched off before it can be changed from one to the other, all with very visible lighting.  Now means one week one and the next week the other.  A great change after what must be at least 40 years of running.
