RMweb Premium 45156 Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 Afternoon All For once, all posts read and rated, and I am pleased to see that most ERs are present and accounted for, and generic greetings are on offer to each and every one. Woke at six (as usual) to think that it was Monday, then realised it wasn't, but hey ho, the A6 car boot, and then a partial fodder run to Lidl, with the remainder to be done at Aldi tomorrow, were beckoning, so rising at 6.30, and on the field as a buyer was achieved well before 8.00. Got back around 10.30, to find the heating on - I suspect it was due to the low temperature, as it was set to auto - I have read, and reread the instructions on setting the programmer, and they are actually as clear as mud - or even less so, and the boiler engineer acually advised us to visit YouTube for videos on how to do this, as the Honeywell manual is pretty useless. Then got a text from Sue, manager at LASAR asking me to change my shift to Mondays after having been told that I was needed on Fridays - well, it's not a problem, except that this week, the fodder run is already scheduled for tomorrow, and I also have an urgent phone call expected on the land line tomorrow morning, but I'll go back to Mondays, and shift the fodder run to Tuesday. Dinner is now calling - sausage and mash today, and then Lily needs a walk. Regards to All Stewart

At this time of year we have the hot water on auto (three on/off cycles per day) and the heating on “once” so it comes on early morning and turns off late evening but controlled by the thermostat. 15
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 27, 2020 I was imitating an iceberg but I've just defrosted in a hot bath, 2 hours outside, helping clear the broken oak tree. The UK power networks team arrived around 12:00 having planned to be here earlier, but they came across another fallen tree on the way. This team having been brought up from Sussex. There are still 18 power cuts shown on the map in Norfolk and 8 showing fixed today. Of the team of three, two were in there 20s ish using very long join together poles with a pruning saw on top. The older guy was chopping the fallen branches, I helped move the twiggy bits to the bonfire site, the thicker branches were stacked to one side for me. Up to 6ft long for most, 4 foot long when a foot or more in diameter. One of SWMBOs big plant pots got hit when a branch bounced off the drooping cable into the air and then onto plant pot, but it saved the drain cover of the cess pit. I wouldn't have wanted to go fishing. They then went to the next job about 4 miles away. I'll chop up the smaller branches mostly into firewood, but some interesting shapes may be kept, the thicker stuff will be sorted into slices for turning, or planked on the bandsaw. We've lost six tiles from the front of the house, one has landed near enough intact, that saves me climbing up to remove the loose ones. I'll be measuring up the good tile and then wandering the net to find replacements, they are not flat but shaped so getting a match is important. The nearest I've found so far is https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/redland-postel-roman-clay-roof-tile-smooth-brindle.html Dinner.. Beef stew, will arrive shortly, this was prepared yesterday, but not cooked due to the power failure.. Just been informed there will be a inspector for the phone lines arriving today, he will check it's safe, and then arrange the repairs. Dinner has been eaten, very nice too, the count down to finger pokery, has started. 1

At this time of year we have the hot water on auto (three on/off cycles per day) and the heating on “once” so it comes on early morning and turns off late evening but controlled by the thermostat. I have no timer on the boiler; it's a combination one and generates hot tap water on demand at any time of day or night. My Honeywell thermostat is set to give 21C when I'm around, dropping to 17C overnight or when I'm at work. It has two useful overrides; if I'm away, I can set it to maintain a nominal minimum temperature for the duration and if I'm on staycation, I can set it so that every day's on, say, the Sunday cycle when I'm mostly at home. Where I lived previously, there was a timer on the boiler for both central heating (which had to be manually overridden if it started to get a little chilly and the thermostat was clicking in) and hot water. With my current system, this is totally unnecessary! 16 1

Popular Post Coombe Barton
My boiler called me at work on Thursday to say it couldn't find the thermostat. Son was working on it, but it was nice of the boiler to tell me. As this one does not store what water but heats on demand I only have to set the timer. This is done either via the thermostat or via the iPhone app. Leaning to do that is the next step. There one problem with a thermostat that can be anywhere and not fixed to the wall - Where the hell is it? RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 27, 2020 Problems ..... problems ..... The timer on the combi-boiler seems to be awry. It is working but it loses time at a random rate. Overnight it lost five minutes; during today it has lost over an hour. Yesterday it lost two hours so it isn't dying at a steady rate of knots. I could leave the heating on using the on-off switch but that either bakes us overnight but allows me a nice warm start to the day at 5am or I switch it off and rise to a chilly flat. The hot water is always on. Hmmmm ........ Just had an exchange of messages with Former Neighbour (Upstairs) who is feeling a lot sorry for herself. Yesterday she developed flu-like symptoms, had no sense of taste and a slight but not continuous cough, plus a fever. She has been a smoker but now vapes instead so the cough might, she suggests, be part of that. She took the dreaded test this afternoon and now has an anxious wait for the result. She will not be in work tomorrow either way. I'm counting days - we saw her not that long ago. It was more than 14 days ago (just - it was 15) and we were not within 2 metres for 95% of the time and not making contact at any time. As she is a teacher she might have collected something from one or more of her children and it may yet be relatively harmless. But the symptoms are concerning. We await this time tomorrow when she should know whether she requires two days or two weeks off work ...... I'm off to deal with a rosbif and just about the last of our summer veggies. Courgettes, green beans and potatoes we made ourselves, the parsnips and carrots are bought. It's a good excuse to also open one of the better bottles of Red Laughing Water lying around the joint. 1
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 Our thermostat is radio transmitting in the hall way, where the old wired, one was, however it seem to be at the maximum range. Occasionally it looses contact so I unhook it, walk it to the boiler, it re establishes contact, then I can put it back. Our house is set to 17C constantly, but the living room has a multifuel stove, that keeps it to 22c + When we go to bed, the door is left open and the heat goes upstairs. I spotted a hiab outside stopped in an odd place. So I went to see if it were the telephone people, nope it was two vans of Welshmen looking for a failed electricity supply. The name of the person reporting was that of the owners of the farm that surrounds us, so I pointed them to the farm house, about 400yards further on. While typing this the phone went, UK power asking if we had power, since we have and we are third from the end of the line, that pins it down between the neighbours to the farm at the end.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Lazy day today, done sod all all day. One way I've found to get round it is to go into notifications and I can usually find my last post, I then scroll down to the blue line beneath which are the unread posts. Hopefully as I said there was no problem today so perhaps its been sorted. Q my house has identical tiles and I have about a dozen that I rescued when some of the neighbouring houses belonging to the housing association had their roofs replaced a couple of years ago.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 27, 2020 (edited) The MER ride went well, on time, and sunny enough to ride in the 'toastrack' trailer car both ways - the best way to enjoy the railway. Lunch wasn't at the veggie/vegan/still hungry place as it was too busy, but an alterative nearby was acceptable and turned to be both sunny and sheltered, so we ate al fresco - a treat after the cold start. We were the only passengers on the up journey, but it was busy on the return. Jayne doesn't like to be photographed but sneaked this one. She's a good looking girl for 56. Edit - add photo! RMweb Premium J. S. Bach Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 I did something last Friday that I have never done before in my life, I made a donation to a local political candidate's election fund! I checked the box for a yard sign (about 18" x 24") as I wanted one anyway. I figured that I would have to call the office to get it; no, it was already in the yard when I got back from church today! Amazing.

There's plenty out there that have been having to self isolate for medical reasons since March Quite, but I don’t think any other section of society have had their lockdown enforced by security guards and police or been told that they can’t return if they leave. Threats of expulsion from their course is tantamount to having careers destroyed if they break the rules, whether they have the bug or not. Having seen some of these residences I’m not sure that they can be compared to being in self isolation elsewhere either. At least the rest of us had time to panic buy, I mean stock up on, toilet rolls and pasta and even food before lockdown. Lockdown for a fortnight? At the moment some are telling them that they won’t be allowed home at Christmas. Ok, they probably overdid the socialising bit, but so have some footballers, and an awful lot of others you see round town centres on a Friday night. And in restaurants. And in shops. And garden parties. And demonstrations. And..... Come on , it’s safe to come and pay us your tuition fees. Come on, it’s safe to come to halls of residences and pay us your rents. Ah, wait a minute though..... we didn’t spot that coming, you will have to go into lockdown. Send beer? I’d want a lot more than beer? 3 13

There's plenty out there that have been having to self isolate for medical reasons since March Some, however, actually are in dire straits. Not only locked in without any warning (so no time to shop or stock up on anything in the way of food let alone beer), no deliveries permitted owing to the number of positive cases in a hall, police and security enforcing the "stay in rooms" order and a sense of being unjustly victimised; when nowhere else has police enforcement to that extent I can see their point. The "Students not criminals" slogan displayed at one hall (at least) says a lot about the feelings set against the response. Meanwhile there continues to be a procession of visitors upstairs which continues to give us cause for concern and SWMBO anxiety is once again seizing the fish and jumping on the bandwagon. I'm off to bed. If they keep the noise down upstairs I may sleep. If not they will receive a very stiff message of complaint in the morning from the agent. Good Night all. 1

RMweb Premium Barry O Posted September 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2020 University Halls of Residence have rooms which are quite "poky" just enough room to have a bed, a desk and chair and communal kitchens and toilets/shower facilities.
