It is slurry spreading week round here (at least on the nearby fields). Not too bad, just “noticeable “.

...snip... Nothing quite like distilled spirits and there seems to have been an explosion in their variety over the past few years. The “trade” supermarket where I shop (and it’s not a specialist wine & spirits dealer) has over 20 types of gin and similar numbers of different types of whisky, vodka, rum and brandy (not to mention various liqueurs). ...snip...

iD

That reminds me of a Kroger (grocery) store that I stopped in (on a road trip somewhere between Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio) to get some beer. It had an beer section that alone was bigger than most liquor stores that I have been in! And a great selection of lesser-known and regional brands, no counting imports.

I saw this small-fonted line near the top:

"Note: This article may feature affiliate links to Amazon or other companies, and purchases made via these links may earn us a small commission at no additional cost to you. Find out more here."

And immediately lost all interest in the site and left it. There may have been other hidden traps/spam links there.

Hardly a hidden trap/spam. Like many websites, it features products sold by Amazon (or others) that are relevant to the topic (in this case food and kitchen equipment) and you don't have to click on a link to a kitchen mixer if you don't want to.

Not too different to RMWeb and the tie-in with Warners and BRM.

I think you'll find large and busy website that are entirely funded without any recourse to commercial tie-ins to be few and far between

Good Evening,

Also, the number of people I see walking around zombie like looking down at their phones instead of where they’re going really makes me want to shout at them “IS IT THAT BLOODY IMPORTANT!” but I bravely hold my tongue.

Perhaps they have an app on their phone which is showing the image from the camera? I did see someone walking along the pavement reading a newspaper! My tactic is to generally walk directly towards them!

[snip] They had eluded their Japanese captors and had come across an abandoned pineapple plantation. Of course being starved by their captors they fell upon this bounty and as the Japanese were no longer pursuing them they stayed living on a diet of pineapple. When they were rescued and were given normal food their teeth started falling out. Apparently there is an enzyme in pineapple that has a detrimental effect on the teeth and gums.

As I understand it, pineapple is full of enzymes which is one reason it is traditionally served with gammon as one of them aids digestion thereof. I also recall reports that pineapple 'preparers' have been known to have no fingerprints as the enzymes destroy them!

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Spent this afternoon zapping the weeds that have sprung up since the last 'zap' on the front path. That was then followed by eyelid inspection.

Those links presented a very difficult choice.  Should I press the laugh button or the groan button?   A difficult one but in the end i decided they were so ridiculous it had to be a laugh in order to remain sane.  The  worrying thing of course is that somebody probably actually used those 'recipes' and made and an ate one of those peculiar conglomerations.  But it would be even more worrying if anybody actually ate them and then praised the 'cook' for their culinary prowess.

I couldn't help thinking that if some of those preparations were laid out as a buffet on Christmas Day a lot of people would be in A&E on Boxing Day with food poisoning. The one exception is the sausage Christmas tree if you have a dog or dogs.

Evening all,

A bit of G word has taken place involving secateurs and a medium length handle pruner.   Almost all work  took place within eye/earshot of the Good Doctor and although her First Aid At Work certification has  lapsed I'm sure she still remembers it and she has done a training module about dealing with older patients so I felt comparatively safe.  No GDB moments occurred although it was a heavy old job shifting the garden waste bin.

Razors electrique!  We use them every day after rising early; so what type to use?  I have had Philips razors since day one but recently they have not been performing as well as they used to, so I need another brand to consider - any recommends?

How about just fitting a new cutting head and foil?  Much cheaper, and should restore previous performance.

All the chat about teeth has been detrimental to my wellbeing as earlier today I broke a crown and have to get the fang wrangler to do something about it. Luckily her receptionist is a good friend of ours so I have got an appointment for tomorrow morning but I'm not looking forward to it as I have had dire warnings previously about the consequences should said crown ever fail. Pah! as Baz would say.

Apart from that Jill and I went for a very pleasant long walk this morning (about four miles, which is quite long for me and my rubbish joints these days) and even managed to collect enough blackberries to make a decent crumble when combined with the few apples we have harvested from our tree so far. I also got in a couple of hours in the workshop before dinner so all in all, apart from the bl**dy tooth, not a bad day really.

It's a good job our leader has such a firm grasp on the current situation isn't it?

Nearly time for the nightly eyelid inspection after a small libation of a single malt has been taken. What shall it be tonight - Scots, Welsh or Irish? Decisions, decisions....

Have a peaceful night everyone.

Dave

Got back to the right side of the hills ok. For a friendly one or two problems were caused by one player being a complete pillock. In a league match he would have received a Level 2 warning and reporr..but see s the Lancs are above the Laws of cricket...

Now a tired Baz so.. goodnight all!

Good evening everyone

Well I’ve managed to get plenty done in the garden, the plants I wanted to lift, divide and reposition have been done. I originally planted 3 ‘meadow sweet’ in 3 separate positions about 3 years ago. These have grown into fairly large clumps, each clump having about 6-8 plants each. Once I’d lifted each clump, it was divided into 2 and I now have 6 clumps, each having 3-4 each. I also lifted a small hydrangea and 2 small euonymus plants, these have also been repositioned.

This evening we had a pleasant surprise when I went to answer the door, it was Vickie, she was out on her daily walk and decided to call for a chat. She refused to come inside (local lockdown regs) so we stood at the door for well over an hour chatting, it really perked us both up.

The ivy on the front door step is unnamed, thankfully Sheila doesn’t watch any soaps, so the temptation to do so wasn’t there. However, calling an ivy ‘Ivy’ doesn’t have the same ring anyway!

Goodnight all

Not to worry!  I've had some done all without problems.  No NHS but we do have good insurance and a good dentist.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Heard something banging in the breeze out in the back garden this evening. Went out to investigate and found that the side gate bolt wasn't engaging. A quick look with the aid of a torch revealed an almost one inch gap between gate and post. I pretty certain that the gate has shrunk as it hasn't rained for ages around here so I've left a slab leaning against the gate to stop it rattling. Rain is predicted soon so I'll keep an eye on it but it looks as if I will have to move the bolt.
