RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted September 7, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2020 Good evening everyone As I thought might be the case this morning, the cleaning the grouting did indeed take longer than expected. However, it is all done now and all I have left to do, is to remove the old silicone and replace it with some fresh silicone, but that’s a job for tomorrow. After tea I completed the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix, which as normal it went without a hitch, I also didn’t see anybody who wasn’t wearing a mask, although there were a couple who weren’t wearing it properly. I like the idea of a meet up, location is always going to be a problem with someone, but is suspect somewhere in the midlands would be he most sensible idea and close to station would be ideal as I don’t fancy driving. Robert. Happy birthday. Goodnight all Brian 14
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted September 7, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2020 Happy birthday Robert. Interesting to see that John (CB) manageda session at Dillington House. Many years ago the WR used to hold staff consultation training course there but by the time I got to go on one it was at the decidedly much further down market WR Training School at Westbury - alv beit suitably enlivened for much of the night by a Hymek left idling on a nearby siding. PS - I'm in my avatar and you can just about make me out leaning out of the cab of 7029 - if you use a magnifying glass. 18 1

Why invade Earth for water or natural resources when they are free for the taking in the asteroid belt? I think that there are only two viable reasons for a full-scale alien invasion of Earth: to use us as labour (voluntarily or involuntarily) or as a source of food, just because we are sapient doesn’t mean we won’t taste good to some entity or other. There is a third. To pick up a few ebay bargains................ Although some would say that would be a good reason not to invade...................... 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted September 7, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) The golf hasn't been so comedic in the last few days. Just about managed the "club 9" that we have every Thursday. I can get there after work, but give it a couple more weeks and daylight may be in short supply. After 8 holes of inconsistent play, our last hole of the nine is a downhill 160 yard par 3 and I've been struggling to find a consistent club - especially as the wind can play havoc with the distance. For the last couple of weeks I've been using a hybrid "escape" that can manage anything from 140 to 175 yards depending upon the lie of the land and last Thursday put me two inches onto the green, albeit with a 50 footer or so putt. Off it went to watch it turn away at the last second. So did I. Then it stopped on the edge of the hole and dropped in for a birdie 2. We have a "2's sweep" where most entrants contribute £1 and if a 2 is scored, then the winnings are passed on. Usually, there's 2 or 3 winners per competition each week (we have two par 3s on the front 9), but last week was a rollover and I was the only 2 this week Ker-ching! So my debit on the club shop account generated by purchase of a new golf bag the week before is now a small credit. Saturday was the final of the Senior doubles knockout - playing against one of the better (when he has a good day). We were losing finalists last year, so were hoping to better it. After 8 holes, the match was all square - having halved all 8 holes with some good golf between us. Up came the 9th and my partner stepped up to the plate to win the hole. We then chipped away with alternate wins at 11,13 and 15 to claim a 4&3 victory. The Sunday singles wasn't too bad either with a 9th place to gain some rare (for myself) order of merit points. Tuesday is a day off to visit Hurlston Hall near Ormskirk for the NW Seniors League President;s day (not that we've had a league this year.....). Forecast is dry with a high of 19-20C. A week off work has been booked and family NB will soon be visiting a location that offers much in the way of activities and sport - Junior NB's recently found enthusiasm for golf will be exploited as we plan - weather permitting - to knock a small white ball around a few fields, leaving Mrs NB to concentrate on her craft stuff. In the meantime - I have to put up with this three times daily when I'm at work..... Have a good week folks. Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all, with belated birthday greetings to Robert An interesting time was had yesterday on the phone to the surgery. I got the appointment for my injection on the correct day but there were a few awkward silences when we discussed the diabetes clinic, and not at my end. The receptionist had never heard of the staff member who conducted my last clinic, review, call it what you will. From a scroll through the appointments system it seems that the last diabetes related appointment I had was more than two and a half years ago. Best of all, there is apparently a list of diabetes patients but my name does not appear on it. Oh dear. At this point she went off to have a word with somebody. I could almost hear the process creaking into action. Apparently I am supposed to have an annual review, informed by a blood test and conducted by telephone. I would love to know how I can be weighed and measured over the phone. A blood test form is to be mailed to me - by snail mail, please note, not the e variety. I can then go for a blood test. Some time after that someone will phone me. Then what? Figuring out how the oversight happened might be a good start. Don’t try blaming the virus this time, folks. I wonder what will happen if I mention the annual medication review? Matters arising: yes please in principle to a meeting, not forgetting the name badges! Like Rick’s SWMBO, I am heartily sick of the eternal analysis of virus statistics and predictions. One day it will be leavened with news of some sort and we shall all die of shock. Shortly I shall be on the road to Bristol, buoyed by the good wishes. It is likely to be an emotional day. Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted September 8, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 8, 2020 Morning all. It is still dark outside. I don’t think it is raining. Today I will be mainly sitting around doing very little other than reading or watching some cricket on the television. ChrisF, I am glad that you have started the process for diabetic review. Enjoy your day out today. Tony
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted September 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 8, 2020 Ey up! Chrisf my blood test was done at the surgery followed by me standing on some scales. 6 weeks later Sister Drac, followed by Nurse Drac, talked to me about it all. The results had been posted to my patient online about a week after the tests. I enailed the marie celeste yesterday..response time under 3 minutes. They will let me know when my hospital trial prescription (it will replace the metformin) is available. Wonders never cease! I also booked to get my hair cut, hopefully before our local Lockdown starts. Today is an over 60s squad game.. it could get a bit vocal I think.. Have a great day! We are missing a load of ERs currently..i just hope they are well! Baz 12 4

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted September 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 8, 2020 (edited) Good moaning to all, and Sundry as well. Belated birthday wishes to Robert, that cake looks lovely. Chrisf, I hope your voyage to the South West goes well and well done in getting the diabetes review started. Over here, though I can ring up for appointments, we have found it much easier to go to the relevant hospital office to book them, partly because things can get lost in translation and also as they seem to have far more earlier slots than if we ring. However the receptionists are usually very helpful. Yesterday I achieved a first. I dug a short trench, removed a small tree root, then made some shuttering and after lunch mixed concrete in a barrow and finally cast a step. This anchors the base of one gatepost and will hopefully keep the posts the right distance apart. I just need to check this morning if it has gone off OK. i was quite pleased with my efforts. In the evening our neighbours from across the road came over for a meal. Roast chicken, ratatouille with roast spuds. All the veg was grown by Beth, apart from the spuds that a friend had grown. This was followed by apple crumble with the apples from the tree behind the shed. Bottles of red falling down water were also emptied. A good evening was had. They are off back to the UK tomorrow as one of Stella's daughters is in the final stages of a long battle with cancer. Not a good situation but we think that the evening went well. This morning the ironing awaits then this afternoon I'm off to visit the trainspotting branch of Leclerc's. Regards to all.
