Maybe it's some sort of bonus gift for Gold members but you don't know you've been given it because you can't see it but others can? RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2020 OK then time for a question from me. What's the link between Arthur Ransome and Ian Fleming ? Mooring awl, inner Temple Hare, 6.25 hours sleep so far.. Only one wake up and turn over.. The landrover wiper motor or the wiring to it, is fried, a short to earth . I don't have the time to take the dashboard apart to get at it. So it will be a garage job... I'll drop in and see them on my way home tonight. I'm going to get the MOT done at the same time, I'd been intending to bring it forward anyway, having it done in December when I might need it with bad weather seemed a bit silly.. Also on the way home, there is a long shopping list from SWMBO... I stopped off at the surgery yesterday to pick up this month's issue of pills. I note big notices on the surgery walls, of closure of the dispensary in the mornings for the first week in October, for drive through, flu vaccinations for the over 65s and the vulnerable. ( by invitation only) . As a diabetic will I be invited? We've not yet heard from the company about their vaccinations, I'll. Take whoever comes up. First. MRC tonight, I'm not sure who else will turn up, it will mostly be a review of what's the state of play with what I've left there, and the first stage of moving the current under construction part of the layout back... Time to get ready for work. 1

BokStein
5 hours ago, The Stationmaster said: Ah, so the link is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the book written by Ian Fleming (his last one) - which takes us to the cars which carried that name - which leads to Count Zobrowski who built the cars named Chitty Bang Bang at his home Higham Park - which in turn leads to the 15 inch gauge railway which he built in the grounds of Higham Park - and then his later plan with Captain Howey to build a railway to which infrastructure and stock were sent from Higham Park and that latter railway is the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which makes a link to Romney Marsh. Bit like Quite A Long Way Round Britain Quiz is taht one. I agree that it is a long-winded connection (and I could have taken it further), but you are correct! Fleming and Zborowski were good friends and F used to spend many hours riding Z's garden railway. Z not only built the cars but also drove them competitively at circuits like Brooklands. Dr Syn was the fictitious character invented by author Russell Thorndyke; by day, he was the meek and mild Vicar of Dymchurch but by night, he organised the smuggling runs along the coast. In this respect, Loco 10 (I believe) of the RH&DLR is named "Dr. Syn". 15 1

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all! Wishing speedy relief to Rick and Simon for the pain and inconvenience of their bad backs. The care home in Shirehampton where my Aunt Gladys is ensconsed is one of what may or may not be a select few that allows visitors. I made the call yesterday and with ease that surprised me have arranged to see her at 11 am on Tuesday. I get 15 minutes with her at a cost of something like seven hours on the road but for something that I had feared impossible it is a price worth paying. I promised her that I would sign her plaster but if we are to be separated by a pane of glass this could prove difficult. Nevertheless I shall buy a sharpie on the next fodder run so as to be prepared. In readiness for its forthcoming unaccustomed exercise the car had its first service yesterday. It seems wasteful to have this done with a mere 5,376 miles on the clock but we all know where the blame for that lies - that ruddy virus. The man on reception apologised that the valeting that had been promised could not be done. "Indeed?" I replied, icily. "This does beg the question of why I was offered it." Oh. A compromise was engineered and the car was washed outside but not hoovered inside. There was a distinct air of using the virus as an excuse - no newspapers, tea or coffee. How would I while away the time while the service was taking place? As if on cue my phone pinged. The incoming message was from my e-friend Harry, who is on holiday near Cardiff. We caught up with this and that and the time flew by. On the way home I had a late breakfast at Morrisons. It was very nice but the crone on the till neglected to tell me that I should have made my own tea. Where would we be without telepathy failure? Nearly forgot - I first met Chris116 at a 3mm Society function ages ago, which is how I know that his father was the eminent radio producer Denys Jones, which is where my reference to inside knowledge came from. All right? Stay bright! Best wishes to all Chris 21

Bootiful sunrise this morning, just enough clouds to make everything pink and orange.. Ben the High speed Collie, spotted some rabbits as he came out of the house, whoosh he was off down the garden, he came back very pleased with himself.. I've now started looking at tablet computers to replace SWMBOs, which she's cracked the screen on and is very slow, finding a fast one that isn't silly money is an interesting problem, and we'd like GPS.. Strangely the amazon fire has the correct chip inside, but it's never been enabled and you have to use a GOS dongle..!? Like many factories this place works on Just in time delivery ... Therefore the virus has stuffed this, we have a very large order, but it's held up because it needs 1 relay... a very specialist relay only made by one place in the world.. That factory closed for 3 months due to the virus... and we have of course no stocks...

This enabled me to miss all the rush nours between here and there. I've not worked out the times in detail yet. To be with her at 11 am will involve an early start but not quite that early! Its been sunny all day so it probably had a good charge..... Windy here this morning, which is a pest as we are having an outdoor eating experience (don't say BB'X' as that makes it rain) with two sets of neighbours this afternoon. Pah. Some progress on the, er, thing in the garage that isn't motorbikes yesterday, started a bridge from LCut Creative, very impressed with the quality. Annoyed with our Pharmacy (well known UK chain), been hanging on for a part prescription to be filled, with 'it's on this afternoon's delivery' promises for a week - turns out they don't have it in stock on the island at all and won't for two weeks, which they knew but chose to keep me hanging on. I now have to recover the partially dispensed script (always causes issues) and go elsewhere, to a non-chain Pharmacy, a little further away, where they do have it. Who will also be getting my trade in future!

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted September 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 4, 2020 Good morning everyone It’s a sunny day but there are some clouds around, hopefully if the seaweed twirlers have got it right there shouldn’t be any rain today. I’ll set of to the butchers shortly to collect the weekly meat rations and a pastie for my dinner. I’ll have muggertea No2 when I get back then head off to the Trafford Centre for part to of the weekly shop. As for the rest of the day afternoon, there are no plans so I might sit and read again and no doubt do a spot of eyelid inspection too. Tony. I hope all all goes well at hospital today. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian 14
RMweb Premium southern42 Posted September 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 4, 2020 ' morning all from red dragon land. The sun is defying the pine cone predictors - keep shining, I won't tell. Promise... Click and Collect sorting went well yesterday - bags were actually separated into cold stuff, bread, fruit and veg, and packets and tins. Only, who put the eggs at the bottom of the bag? Thankfully, although the box was crumpled, the eggs survived in tact - just! Fortunately, I had saved an empty box and transferred the eggs into it. No plans for today except, hopefully, some tooting of the flute. Fitt and Elfie taking their time to resume normal duties! Hope Rick and Simon are OK again, soon, and all goes well for Tony. Take care and play safe. _________ Best wishes Polly 16
