RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 2, 2020 Hesketh motorcycles were always known for having being referred to as sounding like 'two skeletons copulating in a dustbin', a modification of the quote presumably. They had a reputation for being mechanically noisy engines. Looked great, but....another heroic failure.

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 Good evening everyone Well since getting back home this morning I’ve done absolutely bu99er all and it’s been great. However, I was advised by the nurse who removed the cannula from my arm to take it easy for the rest of the day, so as not to open up the wound left from where the cannula had been inserted. Funnily enough as she said those words I thought to myself, yeah, I can do take it easy. Most of the day was then spent either reading or doing some eyelid inspection. Just before dinner the weather changed from cool sunshine to wet, very wet, so I think my choice of spending the afternoon in the garden yesterday was a good one. Happy birthday Tony. Nothing else to report, so I’ll bid all my fellow ERs a goodnight. Brian 17 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 About to get in some serious eyelid inspection after a hard day doing very little except eating, drinking, reading and sticking a couple of bits of plastic together. I now have this hard to shake off mental image of Baz running like mad inside a wheel. I wish I could make some intelligent suggestions in answer to the various brain teasers that have been posed. I also wish I were a millionaire but that ain't going to happen either. Well done Rick. Sleep tight. Dave

The specific answer of course is the RN Battle Honour 'Falkland Islands'. This was awarded to HM Ships Glasgow and Bristol in 1914 - both being the 6th vessel to have that name (allowing for cancellations before launch and renaminigs etc). And the Battle Honour 'Falkland Islands' awarded to HM Ships Glasgow, Exeter, and Bristol in 1982 - HMS Exeter being the sixth RN vessel to have that name. There is slight distinction between the two because although the name of the Honour is the same it is suffixed by the year of the particular actions it relates to. so Bristol anfd Glosgow both got two and Exeter only got one 1 hour ago, Andrew P said: A visit from The Stationmaster? Wrong numbers Andy - that would amount to Glasgow 3, Bristol and Exeter 'too many to count remember'. On the other hand if you were counting airports used it would be Glasgow 1 and the other two - nil. 16

iL Dottore
Good morning, Glad to see that Dave Hunt is out on parole and scarfing down plates of sausage and chips (not exactly my idea of a celebratory meal, but whatever the reason for eating, sausage and chips - If done well- are one of the foods of the gods. And, by any standard, better than hospital food) Congratulations to all of you who managed to answer most of my questions (And they were a damn sight easier than the Stationmaster’s I can tell you). Now, to put you out of your misery; the answer to the question Who is the odd one out: Thomas Addison, J.S. Haldane, Charles Darwin, A.J. Cronin, Erasmus Darwin? The correct answer is AJ Cronin. Cronin qualified in medicine in Glasgow, all the rest qualified in medicine at Edinburgh. As I don’t have too much to report on (I’m very busy with work at the present), I shall indulge in myself and pose some more brainteasers. So here they are going, more or less, from easy to hard. I have an Italian friend who is a farmer, he says he uses a Lamborghini to plough his fields. Is he telling a whopper? Where would you find the instruction, Largo? Which is the odd one out: Ducati, Norton, Moto Guzzi, Triumph, Harley Davidson? The chromosomes that determine our biological gender are commonly known as the X and Y chromosomes. A normal female is XX and a normal male is XY. However, sometimes you do have an infant born with an alteration in the number and type of chromosomes. Which of the following is not a viable genetic mutation: XXX, XYY, XO, YO, XXXX? What are CHOP, FOLFOX and FOLFIRI? Which is the odd one out: Prosciutto di Parma, pizza, tagliatelle al ragù, mortadella, rosette, coppa? Have fun over your morning sausage, bacon and eggs (assuming that you are upholding a proud British tradition of a cooked breakfast). Now off to finish my coffee before getting ready for a very long day at work. Enjoy your Thursday iD
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Welcome, gentles all, to “Better late than never”, which is where I catch up with stuff that I would have posted earlier if I had been aware of it at the time. First up is Tony S, who underwent his birthday yesterday. Facebook told me that, but not as early as I would have wanted to know. It must have been having a lie-in. I hope your visit to Basildon Hospital and all the procedures went OK, Tony. Next comes belated crossed fingers for Brian BSW01 and his scan, Petethemole and his diabetic review and Barry O’s MRI ahead of his role as a guinea pig. Then comes Flavio’s quiz. I’m guessing that Cronin and Conan Doyle were both doctors but I don’t know the other answers. Well done to Rick for successfully rearing trainees and to Andyram for being OK. Finally on the retrospective front, I detect inside knowledge in Chris116’s post. My Polo is booked in for a service this morning. The dealership invited me to sign in on line and I did, at stupid o’clock yesterday morning. I cannot retrieve what they sent me but after I had cluck on Send I had nagging doubts about what I had agreed to. Do they really think that the car has 52,000 miles on the clock? At a more respectable hour I rang the dealership. They realised at once that it should have read 5,200 miles. Better news is that apparently I have a service contract so will not have to pay for the service up front. I need to sort that out, for when I bought the car I did not recall being offered such a deal. A possible explanation for that is that mine was the first car that the salesperson had sold. She wasn’t bad, for a beginner! I took the opportunity of the phone call to apologise for what was meant to be my signature on the e-document but looked like badly coiled barbed wire. I find it impossible to replicate my signature on a screen and in future will stand out for the chance to use a pen on paper. Much good will it do me. I came across another instance of that ruddy virus being used as an excuse yesterday. The assistant who was helping me, unsuccessfully, to find breaded plaice in the frozen cabinet blamed Covid-19 for its absence. Daft enough to be true, methinks. . Best wishes to all Chris 1 1
