Winslow Boy
After noon all. Have been forced in by rain. So it is now official that it is no longer overcast in North Manchester but rather raining. On a different note whilst I was out I've had an update on Dave's surprise get well pressie and unfortunately it's not good news I'm afraid. It would appear that the transport manager for the helicopters - motto Lifts r us, has been relying upon Wikipedia to locate Dave's address in Hipposhire. In addition it would also seem that someone has been messing with the local signage. I have my suspicions and a private investigator will be investigating once he arrives from France and has cleared quarantine. Hopefully once the new AA road altas has been received they should be okay. I'm certain Dave will be delighted with his gift and be able to spend hours playing with it when he has his weekly bath.
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 WARNING RANT MODE ON We’ve just heard that our local lockdown, which should’ve been lifted today is to remain in place. I don’t think it will make any difference to those who ignore the advice, because they don’t follow that advice anyway. It’s the fecking muppets like those who make worse for everyone else, the selfish barstewards. RANT MODE OFF. 11
The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where there is a distinct autumnal feel to the air . Good to read of Dave's eventual escape. Younger Lurker has gone to secondary school today. He just about held it together according to Mrs Lurker. The uniform looked massive on him but as the way of things it is likely to be just right before too long. She bumped into the mm of someone he used to be at nursery with - but of course they don't remember each other. Work is going fairly slowly today but it is more interesting than yesterday's presentation by HR on the return to the office. Any question was greeted with "that's a very good question". And we started by each telling everyone how we felt and how we felt lockdown had gone. I wonder if the presence of the CEO on the call contributed to the positivity? i had had a call with him earlier where the IT did its customary "you're speaking to someone important so i am going to play up" thing, so i felt i could comment appropriately! Ah well, on with the grind! 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 Happy Birthday to Tony. Good to see Dave's back at home. I hope Younger Lurker's first day (and subsequent days) at secondary school go well. Martyn (ASD but not then diagnosed) coped by largely keeping himself to himself. He eventually developed a small circle of friends. Current practices will, I assume, avoid his main bugbear, having to sit next to someone who didn't like him, or was disruptive. I'm off out shortly for my Diabetic Review; having put on about half a stone since the last one pre-lockdown, I expect to be told off. And it's trying to rain. 2

They were both born in Scotland, both were doctors, and both graduated from Scottish universities. (There are other commonalities, but I think that's enough to be going on with.) Edit - I evidently missed a page in reading this topic, since I see that question has already been answered. I'll leave this here just for the comment in brackets - you can look it up. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Mention of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle interested me as I'm a great Sherlock Holmes fan. There is of course some glaring errors in some of the stories the best known one is in 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', If the dog had been coated in the particular chemical to make it glow in the dark the poor pooch would have died in agony. Also Dr. Watson got through three wives in very few years, very suspicious. A doctor getting through three wives over a short period ought to be investigated by Sherlock Holmes. Popular Post tigerburnie
Back in the 1960's I had a 250cc Yamaha YDS2 delivered outside my house, I put a crash helmet on, even though I didn't have to and rode off, after around a year, I turned up at a testing station and passed my test first time, in spite of the fact I nearly wiped out a pedestrian who walked out of a shop with an umbrella up and walked out in front of me without even knowing I was there.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 Afternoon all. Not the usual birthday treats. We found the cardiothoracic unit at Basildon. It is a separate building with its own car park. I was only supposed to be there for about 20 minutes however... The swabbing was fine, MRSA is a nose and groin swab, Covid was nose and throat. You will be pleased to know it wasn’t the same swab. Then it was blood taking, except it wasn’t . My veins were being elusive. Two nurses tried, I certainly leaked drops of blood but not enough for 5 sample tubes. I was wondering whether or not it was diplomatic to ask if I could pop over to phlebotomy in the main hospital when both nurses actually suggested that. The appointment was about 90 minutes later so we came home, had lunch, lots of fluids , went back and no problem. I think the nurses may have been too gentle. Tomorrow is uneventful hopefully, I just have to preload my bloodstream with medication required for stenting. I have only been to Southend for heart treatment up until now but the Basildon unit looks very modern. The people were really nice too. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 Evening all, Happy birthday Tony and I trust the rest of the day will pass in a more enjoyable manner. Hope that all goes well with test results for Tony and Brian. Good to see that Dave is still on a proper diet to aid his recovery from hospitalisation. i'm not sure if not being able to drive for a while is a good thing or a bad thing but as noted it is definitely beneficial for ones blood pressure. I had the statutory year off driving after being diagnosed with adult onset epilepsy although it wasn't a problem and the biggest hurdle was getting to the supermarket but various friends rallied round to take herself to & from our favoured shopping venue Today turned wet this afternoon which beautifully (?) matched the time at which herself was booked to see the chiropractor and had in mind shopping after that. But all went well and both Waitrose and Tesco received official visits from herself while I kept my seat warm (and dry) in the car. Sausage casserole for dinner again this evening woith the tomato casserole base which is gradually making its way through the South Oxfordshire tomato mountain. Enjoy the rest of your day one and all. 21

Ships of the Royal Navy received a mention and this was noted as heading in the right direction but of itself is not the answer to the question although it would help lead you to the answer. A further clue was the 'sixth' but that would require a bit of delving to establish its significance. aAs it happens the answer - although it has to be brought together with a bit of deeper research - is out there on the 'net a and even Wiki has the necessary accurate (for once) information to answer the question although in one case the exact wording on one of the Wiki pages is incorrect (I'm not saying in what way) in respect of the 'it'. So both Bristol and Glasgow got one twice but Exeter only got one once. What is it?
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 2, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. A bit damp here this evening and a bit cooler. The last slice of bread pudding is waiting for some mugs of tea to wash it down. The bread pudding has done well to last three days. I won't last much longer as the kettle is on, be back later.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted September 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 2, 2020 Evening all, Happy Birthday to Tony. Good news from Dave; welcome back to the relative freedom of home. Today has become moist. It began so fresh that gloves were required for the journey to the House of Fun. It then became bright and there was the uncommon sight of Gwiwer attired in both gloves and sunglasses! And, of course, an appropriate amount of other attire It was also a rather satisfying day in one respect. I was assigned to manage a platform with my two assistants being the two trainees I have been supervising recently and who have both now passed their Rules examination to become fully-fledged safety-critical staff. Both thanked me at the end of the shift for coaching them as their careers got under way; I know that both have also recorded very positive feedback on the training received which goes on my record. Former Neighbour (Upstairs) restarted her teaching career today. After choosing to walk away after six months in one school owing to some unrealistic expectations (like 7am - 7pm days) then losing out as an agency supply teacher when the dreaded lurgy struck and her work evaporated overnight she is once more in charge of a class of small people and in a different school. I don't expect to hear how things went for a few days but I did receive an emoticon reply to my good wishes sent early in the day indicating she was especially appreciative of that thought. SWMBO has already retired for the night. On the basis that a wise man follows a good woman I should do likewise. Back tomorrow, I hope, although there are no guarantees. 14 1
