RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 29, 2020 Good evening everyone I tried several times throughout yesterday to log on to the rmweb, but all I got was a 522 connection timed out error message. I tried again this morning a few times and the website was still unavailable, I finally got on this afternoon. Well I got a bit wet walking to the butchers yesterday morning, but it’s only water when all said and done. I dried off a little once I’d got back and made myself a second muggertea. I then set off for the Trafford Centre where it was quite busy, once again there were a few people not wearing masks, the vast majority were under 30 and mostly of foreign origin, but that’s people for you. The rain continued to fall until mid afternoon, the sun finally shone just before it set! After dinner and before I re-fitted the window blind in the bathroom, I scrapped off the excess paint from the sides of the window frame. It’s so much easier to do when the paint has dried than when it is still wet. I also re-fitted the shaving mirror too. After that I sat and did a couple of sudoku and generally chilled for the rest of the afternoon. Now, on to today, this morning saw me starting work on the bathroom cabinet, it was taken downstairs to the cellar and once there, I dismantled it as much as I could. Removing both doors, the hinges and door catches. These have been safely stored for when the work is completed. I then set about removing the wax finish from the both the inside and outside, this took a lot longer than I initially thought (don’t they always?) and it’s now ready for rubbing down. This morning a received a letter giving me a date for my CT scan, I have to be at ‘The Christie’ for 8 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday next. So that’s another early start for me then. Working backwards form my appointment, I’ve worked out that I’ll need to be leaving home at 7 o’clock at the latest, preferably a wee bit earlier. Great to hear from Dave again, let’s hope his escape plan works out! Goodnight all Brian 2 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 Mooring awl, inner Temple Hare, 7hours and a little bits sleep very good for me. Of traction engines, our talk of Arthur Ransome the other day, led to me buying the book "Arthur Ransome's East Anglia ". In it it confirms he was very closely related to Ransomes of traction engine and mower fame. I opened the book and page 1 a credit to a late friend of mine, for photos and information in the book. Later a photo of Horning's main street including his house and a photo of his families boat yard, though the yard didn't come to him, he was a teacher. References to my sailing club, and particularly the Yare and Bure one design class of sailing boat. (boat Flash in the books ). Tis still very windy outside, 41mph, though it's promised to reduce later more to the point I might get the tiling done with no rain forecast , no rain Monday either but still a northerly wind so Monday looks good for the Bone fire. Hmm. Must go, Ben the alarm clock Collie stopped snoring and is sitting in the doorway giving me the big stare.. Time to... Move. 17
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 30, 2020 Very cold wet and windy outside, we've obviously had large quantities of liquid moonlight overnight. I swept the raised patio clear of water , in the hope of it drying before work commences there later. When the patio floor gets tiled a small slope will need to be incorporated. Ha, as I type this, the weather man on TV reports Weybourne met station is still reporting 40mph. It's still very overcast but there are signs of brightness to the north and Weybourne .. Padded thermal overalls today I think.. 5
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 Good morning all from the Charente where we have a clearcskyband no wind at the moment. Thst may change depending on whatvI have for breakfast. More scanning was achieved yesterday and some more films were dated. The latest via the date ofva friend's silver wedding. One film has been roughly dated by including a photo of a "yellow submarine" in south east Kent. Mike (SM) will know what I'm referring to. One rather strange thing that has occurred is that some films appear to have recorded their photos in reversecorder and upside down. I have vague memories that Beth had a camera that wound it's film right on when loaded, then gradually retracted the film into the cassette, one frames at a time. It looks as if the escape committee has been well organised and I look forward to updates from Hipposhire. The market is on the agenda this morning. Regards to all. Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Many thanks to Lurker and Eric for the thoughts on my travel arrangements. It did not take me long to discover that it is impossible to plan anything involving travel while we are in the grip of that ruddy virus. Unlike some, I am not actually scared of travelling but when the event to which one wishes to travel is part of the mass cancellation of everything enjoyable there is little point in even thinking about it. Back in February I was determined to spend a long weekend in Dublin in June but the arrangements lay in ruins within a month before I could even think about firming up the travel bit. It made a complete nonsense of determination but, having said that, it is my firm intention to be at Pride Cymru next year. The same applies to Switzerland over the festive season. With what appears to be the eeny-meeny-miney-mo approach to quarantine applied by those who rule us I do not know what will happen this year. Neither, I suspect, does the travel company. I expect to receive a letter at the end of September either asking me for lots of money or apologising most profusely. Knowing my luck, I will be led to believe that the trip is to go ahead, only to have it cancelled nearer the due date. To those whose black dogs are running free: you are not alone, believe me. It really is OK to not be OK. Best wishes to all Chris

No sympathy is needed, Robert, although the supportive thought is greatly appreciated. Sure enough there was a Walmartian at the checkout in front of us. I wanted to get a picture but was told very firmly to put my phone away. As to what she was wearing, the outer covering was many yards of highly stretched lycra. As to what was underneath I dare not even contemplate. She couldn't get through the checkout without turning sideways. Jamie Hmmm. My late father, a keen amateur historian, claimed that after the Founding Fathers arrived in what became the US, much of the subsequent immigration was from - as he put it - the detritus of Europe. Which, if indeed true, and supported by the historical evidence, would explain a lot about Walmart.... Equally interesting (and equally contentiously) he claimed that the difference between the US and Australia was that Australia was Britain’s dumping ground for the “criminal classes“ (most of whom were transported for trivial “crimes“ often committed in the name of survival), whereas the US was the favoured destination for the “religious loonies“. Indeed, it is claimed by some historians that the Puritans fled to America because they weren’t allowed to persecute others (such as Quakers) for not having the “right religious approach” 8 hours ago, Dave Hunt said: Zum: Sicherheitsdiensthauptamt 'iL Dottore', Braunschweig Grun Strasse, Grossewesterneisenbahndorf, Der Schweiz. Probably not, it is - after all – what got our species to where we are today. Let’s face it, in our evolutionary history if you forgot to check for snakes in your bedroll or misjudged the spear throwing distance for taking down a bison (lunch?) then you generally didn’t leave any descendants. It is also urinating down here and whilst Schotty is most happy to go out in wet and cool weather, little Lucy is a little bit more fastidious (let’s not forget that she spends most of the summer lying in the garden “working on her tan“). As far as Lucy is concerned, getting cold and wet is something for “other dogs“. Have a splendid Sunday! iD

Even though I had my proper wool jumper on plus thermals it was freezing. No rain but it was overcast all day..then with 4 to win the sun came out..pah! Right we need to get Dave out..being waited on by the nursing staff is not a good idea..I know where we can borrow a tank from..hopefully he will be let out on good behaviour grounds today.. Limited plans made for today. No urgent issues to attend to (according to her indoors) so I am allowed to "do whatever I like"...bit ominous that. Positive thoughts to all ERs. Hopefully we may hear fromsome of the missing ones. Have a useful and productive day! Baz 18 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 Morning. Dry outside, with sun to the east and thick black cloud to the west. As there is currently no breeze, not sure who will win. We're supposed to start that communal gardening at 9, we'll see who turns out. Us and next door I suspect. Then back to some painting, well staining the doors, then we're done. Then we just have to worry about Dave's rescue with Baz's battle tank, Poly getting shot, and the support needed to those suffering due to the enforced ensconcement and effects of. Dawinism can take it's course with the Walmartians and their ilk. 21
Popular Post 5 C
Morning awl, Yesterday I did... absolutely nothing (well, ok half an hour of ironing). It felt good and I don't feel the least bit guilty about it. The weather yesterday was definitely of the stay indoors variety. Today looks more promising. There's a gentle breeze and blue sky is trying to break through the cloud. The temperature won't set any records but it should be enough to allow a desperately needed mowing of the lawns and general tidy up. Good to hear the escape committee is working on a number of plans to secure the freedom of Dave Hunt. He'll be back for tea and medals in no time. Regards to awl. 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, Windy night and we have a greyish sky but there are hints of blue appearing. A cool, mainly dry day with sunny spells is forecast. Time was spent in The Shed yesterday, firstly tidying then playing with the larger variety of wheeled toys. I have been finding 3 link couplings difficult to cope with, particularly as the board is at eye level. However with the aid of a step and a little illuminated shunting pole thingy obtained from eBay I'm getting the hang of it. Haven't fell off the step (yet) either. Today will see another Shed visit and after lunch there are a couple of rugby matches being televised followed by F1 highlights. Eggs, bacon and other nice things have just been offered if "you get a move on." I cannot refuse that and will comply before she realises how much sport I'll be watching later! Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 Morning everyone. I'm currently waiting for the doctors' daily round to see whether they will let me go voluntarily or whether the big guns will have to be unleashed and Baz's Challenger 2 brought into action supported by HH's artillery. I have high hopes that since no politicians are directly involved the common sense approach will be taken and an all arms response will be unnecessary. On the other hand a ride home in heavy armour has its appeal.... Have a good Sunday folks. Stay safe and avoid the attack of the Walmartians. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 Good morning (just) everyone Late up this morning, I must have needed the kip. Anyway I'm now fed and watered and about to make a start on rubbing down the bathroom cabinet. Speaking of which, in the wee small hours this morning Sheila set off to the bathroom and looked in the cabinet mirror and got no reflection, apparently she jumped as she thought she was a vampire, it then dawned on her that the cabinet isn't there. No it's in the Bl00dy cellar, when she told me I almost wet myself laughing. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 30, 2020 Morning all, And fingers crossed for common sense in the front line of the NHS and an early release of the prisoner from SalopLuft 1. The wind is more like a breeze and we officially expect no precipitation here today. Unofficially. I thus far think that the official view on that could well be correct, for once. I don't know what the weather is like over that way but today we should have been on the North Sea today midway though this year's second week on the briny but as the ship has been in Harwich for the past week I might have been doing little more than watching the comings and goings of box boats and taking pics of the sunsets over the Stour (below). I understand that expedition is planned for later today to look at the contents of the garage based freezer - that should be interesting, very interesting!. Have a good day one and all and stay safe. 20

RMweb Premium Chris116 Posted August 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 30, 2020 I have been listening to the radio today which is nothing unusual for me but I was struck by two of the adverts that have played a number of times. The first is for the "Eat out to help out" campaign which ends tomorrow so why is it being pushed so hard? I will admit that by tomorrow evening I will have enjoyed four meals with my wife under the scheme. The second is from the NHS telling us to eat healthy. Have the powers that be who after all are using our money to pay for these two adverts thought about the fact that they are pushing fattening food in one and saying you should avoid fattening food in the other? Is this a case of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing? 13

It's not really much different falling into one from falling off one - apart from the scratched ankles. 1
