Cue the Mrs, who heads down to the basement for her laundry Sunday morning, returns and says "Um, you better come and look..."! Turns out our hot water heater has decided THIS is the week to begin leaking from the base, probably corroded/rusted, and filled the surrounding area with water "Man" comes out quick as a flash, cleans it up - this is now the FOURTH time in the past couple of weeks - but has to leave some of the fans and a couple of dehumidifiers running to clear THAT mess up, should be only 48-hours this time, says he... We have a new water heater being installed between 12 - 4 today, and frankly the next time there is water in the basement, it'll likely be the FIRE BRIGADE that will need to respond [snip] Tally ho - I may start building an Ark in the back garden... simontaylor484
Im quite glad that when i did my A levels (mid 90s) all we got was the annual criticism that they were getting easier. Which when you have gone through hell it seems to sit them then wait for results which are life changing seems like a slap in face
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted August 17, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 17, 2020 Good evening everyone I never got outside to do any gardening, it started to rain a little just as I was about to get started. So I stayed inside and started fitting the underfloor insulation in the hall. By dinner time I was at the halfway stage. After dinner work continued and apart from underneath the access hatch in front of the front door, it’s done. During the process I had to unclip all the cables fastened to the beams, which of course meant that they got in the way when I was fitting the insulation. But they are all clipped back now and they’re a lot tidier than they were before too! Tomorrow, I’m taking it a bit easy as my arms and shoulder ache a wee bit, so I’m going to take it a bit easy and do the dead heading, which is a little less strenuous than today’s task. I’ll finish the insulation on Wednesday, then I’ll make a start on some permanent lighting under there. I fitted a battern type light fitting when I put the new lights in the office area of the cellar, so it’s now just a case of adding some extra wiring, a switch and second light fitting. After tea I completed the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix and in the process earned several brownie points by picking up some of Sheila’s favourite coffee! This particular coffee has been unavailable for the last 3-4 months (info from manufactures own website) and she used the last of what she had about a week or so ago. Not only was I able to get some, it was reduced in price, so I picked up 3 packets, thus re-stocking the larder. Goodnight all Brian

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted August 17, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 17, 2020 I have that ChrisF feeling. 12 hours from now in a normal world, Mrs NB and myself would have been at 30000 feet or more, westbound over the Atlantic for two weeks. I shall console myself on Sunday evening watching the live railcam at Ashland, Va, where we were planning to make a lunch stop next to the tracks. A decent proportion of the refunded holiday expenditure has already been turned into IKEA cabinets and decorating supplies. There is a bit more still to be returned, but that has already been pre-allocated to further improving the dividends of yellow and blue furniture warehouse shareholders............ Unbeknown to Mrs NB, my stash of US holiday allocated modelling tokens has already been diverted to UK based projects in the last couple of weeks. At least it's only a four-day week for me, as due to the cancelled holiday, I will be attending a golf day out with players and supporters of Blackburn Hawks ice hockey club. But having said that, in a normal world, this particular golf day would have been played in May................. 4 more work days off approved in Sep/Oct for golfing events and we're also looking at a short UK staycation, so it's not all doom and gloom. Have a good Chewsday folks.

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted August 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2020 iD mentioned the concept of being an eccentric uncle. Aditi isn’t eccentric but she has impressed our small nieces. They have decided she is a princess but a brave one like Anna from Frozen. It is funny but whenever I send the nieces photos of amusing animals or objects when we are on holiday they ask for photos of their auntie. The nieces Mum sent us a photo of the girls crossing a ravine on a netting bridge today (some sort of outdoor activity centre). I sent them a photo from 3 years ago of Aditi on a wire tightrope in the Alps with a huge drop (there was a safety net). Aditi sent them a photo of me in the restaurant eating breakfast to show what my main holiday activity is. The nieces of course were impressed (but not with the breakfast photo). RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted August 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2020 Mooring awl, inner Temple Hare, Can't sleep, to many of the weekend work aches and pains catching up. Many on here will have visited Sheringham, to visit the 304mm to the foot parallel bits of metal They will be somewhat surprised to hear Sheringham flooded a couple of days ago.. Sheringham is on a hill side steepish at the top, gentle in the middle where the main village and parallel bits of metal are. Then it falls off the cliff to the beach. It was heavy enough that a section of tarmac on the Cromer road lifted and the road is closed. We had a couple of down pours yesterday, but nothing serious, Thor was hammering on his anvil though, much to Ben the scaredy Collie's distress. Combe Barton was lucky with his week in the south west, these next few days look particularly unpleasant for the summer down there. . I appear to have found a comfortable position, time to try for more sleep. 5 1
Popular Post Florence Locomotive Works
Evening all, No progress was made on the powerhouse today. However most of the morning was spent going around on Spanish google looking at Fowler Ploughing engines, as I’m trying to find one made for direct ploughing in the Pampas, down in Argentina. I didn’t find it, but I did find the closest possibly surviving Fowler engines to me, the one seen below that was still working on Puerto Rico in 1954, evidence suggests. I also found some great photos of a set of B6 “Big Lion” engines made for the Tsar, said photos are of the engines trundling through the winter snow, or maybe getting stuck... Tomorrow morning I go to the school for a two and a half hour orientation presentation in the PAC, which will either be “absolutely riveting” (), or very interesting. After which I go and rechlorinate the grandmothers various fountains. The other photo below is of the rather nice sunset, taken tonight looking west towards the Arkansas river. stay healthy, Douglas Edited August 18, 2020 by Florence Locomotive Works 15

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 18, 2020 Morning/Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Sun-rain-sun-rain on and off this morning so not much if anything will get done outside today. Examined the directors chair and it looks as if there's a few more dry joints to sort out, the result of being stored in a centrally heated house. Then it will need repainting as the paint is flaking around the loose joints, I have some black acrylic somewhere now where did I put it?. Good news is that I've found the missing (hiding?) screws. The cardboard box they were in had been soaked in oil from a leaking can so I transferred them to another container. That container was in full view all the time but I'd forgotten and was still looking for the cardboard box. Thats it for now, be back later. 17
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted August 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2020 (edited) A'noon all, Raining here too and has been for a couple of hours. Had another Zoom meeting last night with 5 old schoolmates. We've decided to continue these for now. Four of us live within 20 or 30 miles of each other and the others in Warwicks and Northumberland. There are a couple of others in other parts of the UK so it's a great way to keep in touch. Up at 6.00am and hospital visited at 7.30am for blood tests. The whole procedure including 3.4 mile round trip took 24 minutes. As a bonus there is still no charge at the car park at the moment. I was most discombobulated to find the forum AWOL all morning. I ended up helping with the housework! Some tomatoes were picked to go with lunch and carrots to accompany this evening's meal. Now got a bit of financial juggling to do as one pension has arrived and another is due later in the week. Enjoy what's left of the day. Bob. Popular Post iL Dottore
Okay! Who broke RMweb this morning? It has been rumoured that AndyY is determined to get to the bottom of this sabotage and has tasked M.Inspecteuer Jamie92208 to find the miscreants. It is also rumoured that a certain P Bear has been tasked to assist in this process and if the rumours are true, Mr Bear is not particularly choosy where he sticks the electrodes! Of course, this is the purest rumour mongering and speculation without a single iota of fact in such scurrilous assertions. And no bear or policeman should feel impugned by such baseless accusations. Right now, I am at a bit of a loose end as I have sent a whole pile of work off to my clients for their approval and now it’s simply a matter of “hurry up and wait“. Weather is intermittently rainy and wonderfully cool. Sadly, the temperatures are supposed to rise towards the end of the week. Have a great week (and don’t break t’interweb again) iD 11 8
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted August 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2020 Afternoon all - for once I appear to be among today's earlier attendees. Apparently the cloud broke according to Farcebook info - presumably the one that unloaded on GDB and definitely not the one that didn't unload and is presumably still intact even if it isn't working. Oops it would appear to have just started working - the cloud that unloads rain that is as well as the one in Londinium which hosts RMweb. The management, chauffeured by the Good Doctor, has ventured to Marlow to have her hair cut done and the GD is apparently tasked to shop in Sainsbury while the management has her follicles expensively rearranged. I presume they will not be lunching chez Kerridge at his recent acquisition of The Butcher's Tap, almost adjacent to the follicle rearranger but if they do I shall express jealousy. I do wonder if a combined butchery and pub - which according to a locals does excellent snacks - is unique? https://www.thebutcherstap.co.uk It looks almost as if Marlow might be turning into Kerridgelow in the same way as Padstow has turned into Padstein as Tom Kerridge now has rthree eateries, of one sort or another, there. Mind you perhaps in Covid times it might be possible to get into the Hand & Flowers without a three month wait for a booking? The rain has now got somewhat steadier and increased a bit in quantity but the noise of Thor and associated flashes in the sky have not arrived as previously advertised by the experts of Exeter. I wonder if they'd be any more accurate iof they moved back to Bracknell? R Enjoy teh rest of your day one and all and stay safe. 20
The Lurker
Greetings all from the fold in the hill which is currently dry but is starting to cloud over. Men have come and cut some of our trees in the back garden, taking out the diseased and virtually dead ornamental cherry, a dead conifer and shaping the other conifers that form a screen between us and the houses at the back. They will be back in November to shape the copper maple, once the leaves have fallen. They seem to have done a pretty good job although next door was not too chuffed about chipping dust on his car. He drove it off in a huff; they blew the dust off our car which was also next to their machine. Mrs Lurker has been round to apologise. The noise certainly made to the two calls i was on this morning quite entertaining! Since then, my work citrix link has had an off moment and now I am building up to two more calls; no tree cutting noise this time! Elder Lurker has been persuaded that now is the time to get back to the job agencies and people providing apprenticeships. Hopefully something will come of it in reasonable time 17
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted August 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 18, 2020 (edited) I have only been tasked with helping with new fences today and it is now getting rathervwarm just as we get to the job of putting up the new fence. We could have done with a pair of Fowler p,ough engines to drag the plough through to getbout the wild cherry stumps. Magnificent beasts are plough engines. Wasn't one used just recently to get some machinery out of a quarry. As to the sabotage. I think it was B Bishop in Waterloo wanting to be amused wot did it.
