RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted August 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2020 Evening. 24c recorded on Fraggle Rock, we're swooning. We did get out in the kayak, which was great, first time for 2 years so we are a 'bit' achey this evening! About 4 miles in open sea with a bit of a swell so had to work at it. Had a BBQ in the garden this evening, most pleasant, watched F1 qualy which had a good outcome. Arthur-itis taking a back seat today which was a treat after yesterday, when he was as bad as he's ever been. Such an unpredictable condition. 14
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted August 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2020 It's 24 outside now but 32 inside. We might even partially close the living room shutters tomorrow. We've been out forvs very nice meal of fish and chips with two good friends. Good night to all. Jamie 10

I hugley respect those that do have to wear them all day but I just feel that any comment on them is not worth posting. I just feel that we cant be so open on our feelings these days even on here. 3 hours ago, PhilJ W said: I find them uncomfortable to wear and needing to wear glasses they do make the glasses steam up and stops the glasses from sitting as they should affecting vision. I won't therefore wear one when driving in fact I will only wear a mask in indoor spaces such as shops. Could it be that the mask you're wearing isn't right for you? The first masks I got (ebay cr@p) were hopeless, with glasses steaming up like a good 'un. Home-made masks were fine (within reason - running a marathon would be an issue). Mind you, using Winnie The Pooh/Tigger/Piglet/Ey-Ore Material for the mask could be the magic ingredient.... So perhaps a bit of experimentation may help; it's likely that masks will be an everyday part of life for a long time yet, so time spent now may well reap dividends. RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted August 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2020 Like others, I find the usual surgical style masks uncomfortable. Full credit to those within the NHs and similar that have had to wear them for long periods of time. I use a"Buff" or similar as it can easily be worn around the neck all the time and then pulled up over the face as required. They are a multifunction garment that has many uses from a bandana to balaclava to neck warmer. They can even be used as a pirate's hat......... Authentic Buff's can cost a fortune, but some of mine have been as event mementos when doing cycle sportives and similar. Over the years, I've collected half a dozen or more, so they are now strategically located in places such as my desk at work, hanging round the gear lever in my car, one in my golf bag (required for visiting the pro shop). Speaking of golf. Not much to report lately as my game has descended into mostly comedy golf and unable to put together more than a couple of good holes per round - despite actually playing more regularly this year, when compared to the past 3-4 years. Let's see if I can bring my matchplay game back soon as I'm due to play the semi-final of the seniors doubles next week. A lie-in beckons Sunday. Followed by some D [*] and G words Have a good one folks. Cheers, Mick [*] Decorating 6 1

Then theres the run of the mill dangerous stuff like seasnakes, saltwater crocodiles and sharks. Much safer to stay on shore. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted August 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2020 Good evening everyone The weather has been nice all day and the sun really started to shine just before dinner. I even had my mid-morning muggertea, sat on the bench under the workshop window. This morning I finished off making the timer circuit boards and then drilled fixing holes in them all. I then made a start on some plastic spacers which I’ve made by slicing an 8mm piece from some 5mm diameter plastic tubing. After dinner I once again sat on the bench under the workshop window and worked on the handrails of the turntable bridge. They’ve been cast as one piece for each side, so the back of the rails is flat and not round, so I spent the afternoon in the sunshine, sat on the bench with the workshop windows open, listening to some music, whilst I rectifying this. It’s made a huge difference, I’ll do the other handrail tomorrow. Like Phil, I find a mask very uncomfortable to wear, if I don’t get the nose piece sitting properly it also steams up my glasses, which is damned annoying. So as there is no requirement to wear them whilst driving, I don’t and for the foreseeable future, I’ll keep my shopping expeditions to a minimum and those that I will do will be for the bear essentials and for anything else, I’ll get delivered. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted August 8, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2020 Today, I.e., Sunday, is our 51st anniversary so we're going to try to find a bit of beach somewhere (probably near Formby) that isn't too crowded and where we can have a picnic. Failing that, who knows? Last year we were in Peel on Fraggle Rock where Jill fell over and broke her arm. We do know how to celebrate! Night all. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted August 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 9, 2020 (edited) Mooring awl, Inner Temple Hare, 6 hours solid sleep so far... My finger joints are complaining a bit, it's both hands equally, so it can't be entirely caused the the physical work I've been doing this week. It's been a lot cooler tonight in the house, though Ben the Hot Collie has just moved from his bed to the cold floor. Plans for today boat works, sand the varnish, paint the cockpit edges( Blue) , varnish the deck, paint the hull upper sides (white). I've kept the non sticky plastic which separates the layers of the rolls of self adhesive flashing tapes, it will be masking taped to the deck to keep the blue paint getting on the varnish. But first Time for more dozing.. Not much dozing happened, Ben the I went out Collie appeared, he's rescued a somewhat damp, stuffed toy he left outside. Damp? Yep, sea mist, heavy enough to feel it on my skin, visibility about 400 yards. Breakfast time Edited August 9, 2020 by TheQ
chrisf
Greetings one and all, with anniversary greetings to Dave and Mrs Hunt One point on masks which I am not sure has been made: if they are so essential for controlling the virus, how come those who rule us took four months to make their use compulsory rather than advisory? Anyone would think that some of them do not know what they are talking about. That can't be right, surely? Today is not the best for grilling a steak but that is what will happen chez Chris. A slab of ribeye was almost begging me to buy it in the fodder run yesterday. Apart from that I shall take the day as it comes, with mushrooms where appropriate. in the parallel universe some of us would be crowded into Wells Town Hall, which makes a pretty good sauna. I had one more chat with BT yesterday about what happened to my sent e-mails. The lady who took my call assured me that it has happened to other people and that the particulars of my case will be passed to a specialist team who should be in touch with me soon. It was so nice talking to her that I did not have the heart to mention that a similar promise was made a few weeks ago. I am far from confident that anything good will happen. Something makes me wonder whether BT is already immune to public embarrassment, potentially a useful weapon. Best wishes to all Chris 1
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted August 9, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 9, 2020 Good morning from a rather muggy Charente, though I'm not sure that my neighbours would understand that word. Market trip this morning, with masks. We get ours from a lady pn the market who makes her own. However it is nice to take it off when we get back to the car. Not a lot on the agenda for today but some friends are coming round to help dispise of a Guinea Fowl, plum crumble gas also been promised. Regards to all.
