Lamping is not illegal. It is a perfectly acceptable method of pest control, especially for those who cannot afford the prices of the night vision systems available from shooting suppliers. (I have an IR system for ratting in buildings.) However, to shoot legally, it has got to be carried out with the permission of the landowner (or tenant if the land is leased). Poaching, which is shooting without permission, whether with or without a lamp is illegal. Which is why the farmer rightly get very angry. I have quite a few acres over which I have permission to shoot, and if we are going out at night it's always worth letting the neighbours around the shoot know we are out and about. The same goes for letting the police know. It's much better to get checked on by the local area car rather than a full blown alert involving an ARV. 15 3

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis went to sleep last night so so did I. He made a bit of a fuss this morning but then was quiet. Hopefully as its cooler I can get on with the sorting of the sheds. A wooden storage box that was in the old shed will provide some of the shelving in the new shed. The box is of tongue and groove construction and rotten in places due to the damp but it looks as if some of the boards are recoverable, they are just the right size to make shelves for the new shed. Now to get started (after another muggatee). 15

The easiest way to avoid getting shot by the clowns who are totally incapable of identifying the target before letting rip (The Americans have a history of that including blue on blue military action) is to wear orange! A lot of 'hunters' wear orange baseball caps and tabards, which make them highly visible. Since most animals are colour blind, the bright colour makes little difference. They work by smell and spotting movement. I believe that one of the lesser known reasons for orange hi vis for loco crews in certain parts of the States was because some cretins started shooting at crews who were switching in more remote locations. 16
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted August 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 3, 2020 Morning all, Currently relatively cool out there but if the predictions from the seaweed twirlers of Exeter are correct I would think the river might have dried out by this time next week as we are heading for several days of temperatures in the 30s (centigrade that is). I see the big eat eat eat promo is underway which seems slightly at odds with Boris's message of get some weight off. But judging by what I have observed through the windows of eateries, various, round here I think it might turn into a race between a heart attack courtesy a 'spoons breakfast and a dose of Covid from a jam packed more up market eatery to see which gets you first. There appears to be no social distancing at all in some eateries - not even one metre let alone the required 2 metres (you can't eat while wearing a mask - can you?). But looking on the bright side a prominent local councillor has reportedly now been banned from the town's best Italian restaurant. I think that is the third place he has been banned from and I think he might still have in place a restraining order requiring him to keep more than a stated distance away from a former lady friend; i presume the people who continue to vote for him only read part of what is published about him in the local 'paper and ignore the salacious stuff or don't realise how obnoxious he is. We only get sounds of shooting if the wind is in the appropriate direction at certain times of year - only shotguns as we're the wrong side of town to hear any deer culling. Currently no major plans for today and no daily orders have been received - so far. Have a good day one and all and stay safe, which might be difficult in grockle infested areas.

I only browed the site last night seeking some items which - as it turns out - were not in stock. It has now closed. That has taken the edge off what was a slightly better morning than the past two have been. SWMBO is brighter today though not quite herself. She attributes the bad weekend to being of a certain age and troubled intermittently by hormonal imbalances. She is not WFH today but is instead working at home. The difference? She is on leave from her paid employment and is busily attending to the un-dotted i's and uncrossed t's in her thesis which require correction before final re-submission. It has been passed - a few minor corrections are quite normal and no matters of fact or argument need changing. The House of Fun was remarkably quiet today. Far fewer passing through than even the recent weeks have seen. Maybe they're all still on Bournemouth and Brighton beaches? Officially we are carrying 15% of normal loadings but that is averaged network-wide and there will be peaks and troughs. 2 hours ago, Happy Hippo said: Poaching, which is shooting without permission, whether with or without a lamp is illegal It is also a perfectly legal means of cooking eggs and fish, among other dishes. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted August 3, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2020 Afternoon all. I am somewhat late to RMWeb today so actually learned about the news about Trackshack from Facebook. I can only repeat what very one else had said that it was always a pleasant experience buying from them. The reason I was on Facebook was to use Messenger to contact Aditi’s cousin. MiL told,me that one of his teenage twin boys is displaying symptoms of Covid and they are waiting for a test result. This is in Delhi. They have been strictly isolating and quarantining food and deliveries as like many families there, it is a multi generational household with vulnerable elderly persons. Then I was online shopping. Aditi said the white bread for toast had used the last bread flour and we would have to have wholewheat or malted grain toast for the near future. Now I do like such types of bread but my favourite toast for breakfast is white toast. We didn’t really want to buy a 16kg bag of flour and Waitrose are still unable here to supply bread flour but luckily Doves Farm seem to have restarted supplying the 1 and 1.5 kg bags again. My order won’t be as heavy for the DPD chap as my 75kg of softener salt pellets last week though. I probably didn’t need to order the salt quite so soon as I found three 10 kg bags when I moved a table out of the garage this weekend. Not sure how I forgot about them. The news from Ireland about the death of John Hume also made me think of Matthew. For his first year at Maynooth University, Matthew had been awarded a Scholarship from the foundation set up by John Hume and his wife. As some of you know Matthew was then awarded full funding by the Irish Research Council, but he never knew as the letter arrived on the day he died. The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where there are clouds in the sky but the in laws have departed; even Mrs Lurker was pleased they went today rather than tomorrow as per the original invitation! the Grand Prix was enjoyed yesterday especially with the unexpected ending! sad to read of the closure of Track Shack - not somewhere I have used personally ( I try to use my local, Invicta Models) but given the good write ups and the recent website upgrade it would appear to be a big loss. However one cannot blame the owner for wanting to retire in the circumstances. 14

Their friend’s Italian wasn’t as good as he thought and had asked “what kind of dog is this?” while pointing at his food. I once asked for leather dumplings instead of liver in Austria but the waitress thought it was funny. When we had meals out at my last place of work it was difficult to find anywhere that our head of department wasn’t banned from in the area. I think it may have been something to do with his Rugby club outings. 18

RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted August 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2020 ' afternoon all from red dragon land. I heard about the closing of Track Shack from Ray. We had bought a few things from there and were delighted with the speedy service. Wishing all the best to Neil and his Fraggle Rock colleagues. I am currently watching the weather - trying to make use of some warm sunny weather to get some washing dried between showers! Give it another hour and it should be OK. I should be able to slot in a bike ride on the terrace as well. But now it is time for a mugadecaf before trying my hand at getting some transfers onto a small piece of plastic... Fitt and Elfie taking it steady. Take care and play safe. _________ Best wishes Polly 18 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted August 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2020 That's xxxxxxx annoying, I'd typed lot of below, it changed pages, said there was no internet and lost all my typing.. It was decided, That today and tomorrow will be reorganised, today being a visit to GY, and tomorrow the trip to Norwich for SWMBOs routine breast screening, followed by the orange shed on the way home.. On the the way to GY, I was informed the spare room down stairs will now not become a dining room, but become a library / snug. The old library upstairs will become a SWMBO craft room, not including art and sewing which is in the muddling shed. There is already, an oak bureau, two, two seater sofas, a brass inlaid coffee table and matching set of three nesting tables, to go in the snug. I now have to design the room space with matching shelving for approval. As for GY, first shop, first cockwomble low 20s,, wearing orange fire-resistant overalls, heavy boots and no mask... After a couple of shops it was getting busier, so it was masks on outside as well, lots of obvious non distancing. We went to stop for coffee, but the market coffee stalls had no screening, and the counters were clogged with undistanced Cockwombles. We found an empty Greggs, screened and staff masked, so bought take out coffee from there. Smiffs didn't have a copy of MRJ unfortunately, so we went to our favourite second hand bookshop.. £26 spent and most of the books cost £1 each.. Several of a subject that must not be spoken.. The books will remain still bagged for a few days while they decontaminate. Odd sights out, One woman went past with two daughters and husband... She towered over me in very flat shoes.. Black shorts in surprisingly NOT indecent shape or form seem to be in fashion for teenage girls. As we were earlier than normal, a few drunks were still occupying the benches around town. Being in early there were still a few delivery vans and owners cars parked outside shops... Selling TAT to the grokles must be profitable, a Porsche parked outside one such shop. Overall the mask count was better than I expected.. "The works" was also visited only a couple of books bought, the history / transport book section was dominated by books of different, "WW2 from the point of view of the German troops" ...why? Then to the Big TES and Coes, even there " ready meals / processed foods expanding, real foods reducing. Total time out door to door, 5 hours, so on return I went on long patrol with Ben the happy to see us Collie, while out I noticed someone has made a big cock up.. One of the fields has random part strips of barley and wheat... oops... Time for eyelid inspection... 17

Been to Morrisons. Facemask on, In and out in 20 minutes doing Mums shopping. My other half was a bit longer doing our weekly shop. Store was much quieter today with no queues for checkouts compared to the same time and weekday before mandatory masks came into force. On way home queues into the road outside Nandos. Groups of teenagers doing piggy back, so no sign of social distancing there. Edited August 3, 2020 by roundhouse 20

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 3, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Made a little bit of progress today re. the shed. I dismantled the wooden box and recovered enough boards to make a couple of shelves, the rest of the box was as rotten as a pear. I'll be installing the shelves in a couple of days as I'm leaving them to dry out, fingers crossed that they don't warp. Still a bit of fettling to do to the wheelbarrow, I've noticed that the bolt through the wheel keeps loosening so I'm going to take it out and turn it round so that the bolt head is on the other side. I had to abandon doing anything else this afternoon due to the hay fever. 14
