RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Rather quiet this afternoon, I think its due to 22 blokes kicking a bladder full of air around somewhere. Still haven't got off of my big fat a*** to do anything shed wise. Within a few minutes of my venturing out the hay fever started to strike so I had to beat a retreat. Dinner has been consumed so now to tackle Farcebook. 1
Popular Post Ian Abel
Afternoon all, an August day reveals itself. The story of the "anniversary", anyone guess what THIS is on the driveway, and no I wasn't caught short and took a p!ss out there Anniversary expected to be SIMPLE, as follows - Me: Work until POETS time, then order the dinner delivery, enjoy quiet dinner celebration with the Mrs Mrs: Take Whitney for a walkies, get a few grocery needs for the day, and for the items she's making to take to Trevor and Meagan today for dinner. The NOT SO SIMPLE final result - Mrs: Off with Whitney for walkies Whitney on retractable leash. Whitney spots a chipmunk (her favourite prey) rush under our car, Whitney in hot pursuit followed by a noise of her trying to bite it. Mrs comes inside with Whitney, says, "there's something leaking under the back of the car, doesn't smell like gas/petrol"! Me, investigates, fluid remarkably oily but clear, ah hah, BRAKE FLUID!!!! Whitney apparently managed to bite through the flexible brake line to the rear wheel(s) AAA (equivalent of AA/RAC) called, as well as local garage. Car retrieved and taken to garage, they hope to be able to schedule it in before Tuesday Rapidly build list for required groceries and order grocery delivery service. Connect with Trevor to request he now pick us up today for dinner with them as we're vehicle-less. Inform Jemma that the kids attempt to have Whitney sever the brake lines and retrieve their inheritance has failed and we will be changing the will Order dinner - VERY NICE thank you - as planned. Relax finally and celebrate NOTE: I didn't have the heart to tell the garage "a dog ate my brake line" ! Today - off to Trevor and Meagan later for dins, they now have to be our transport <sigh> good job they're only about 5 minutes away in their new home! 26 and overcast first thing, high of 28 expected some late afternoon rain/thunderstorms. Enjoy Edited August 1, 2020 by Ian Abel
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 1, 2020 The over the road neighbours asked if I could put a sachet of cat food into a bowl for their cat this evening. The cat won’t go in their house at the moment so I didn’t break any social guidelines or even my own careful rules. The cat stayed about 5 metres away while I left the food . To mis-quote one of your relatives in the Jungle Book movie, you don't want to be like a Bee, chill and layback with just the Bear necessities(did you see what I did there) 9
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2020 Our day wasn't very Bear-like, starting with trimming things in the garden, 'furry tea tree' apparently, smells like that shower gel stuff, then taking the results to the tip - 2 big builder bags full - then way down south for some supplies, graded 'essential' apparently. Lunch in the new place we went to yesterday, coffee on the way home all that way, then I cooked a curry for dinner while the boss attended to yet more gardening. Exhausted. Watched F1 qualy, happy with the outcome, go Lando!
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2020 (edited) Evenin' all, it's been a funny old day. The finger has been fine, twingeing a bit if I try to do too much with that hand. Unusually I didn't go shopping as I realised there was nothing we needed urgently. We went to the lock-up to fetch something and I grabbed a box of magazines to ebay (not railway). I then spent a while researching army badges etc. prior to listing them. Some were my Dad's, others I must have acquired during my military modelling days but I can't remember why or from whom I got a set of Royal Scots Fusiliers brass buttons and cap badge. It's been one of those Saturday nights when nothing much on TV appeals, so I've watched a programme on Iron Maiden and now one on Deep Purple. I'm pleased to see The Gunners won the Cup Final, which I hadn't realised was on, due to all the current goings-on (and off). Goodnight all and Lughnasadh blessings (yes John, I'm "neo-pagan"). Erichill16
Evening All, Sorry been out of the loop for a bit. Haven’t read anything so hope I find everyone safe and well. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Ian, I hope you get Whitney checked out by a vet. Brake fluid can be nasty stuff especially to dogs. I will have to get going on the new shed tomorrow. Although I've measured up for the shelves and brackets I'll do it again before cutting anything. First of all got to get a few fittings from the old shed to transfer over to make the new shed more secure.

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 1, 2020 Evening all, Out I Have been - chauffeured by his ladship to our 'local' friendly toyshop a mere 1 hour's drive away. The roads were quite busy and taht carried on all day although fortunately we arrived after the rush at the shop. very impressive Civid precautions with a new doorbell to ring to gain attention and seek admission and a santitiser station just in side the door - I had in any case used a sanitising wipe to press the doorbell. Complete too with a perspex shield around the staffed part of the counter and if course, alas, no buckshee cuppa today. But a good chat was had and pleasingly Paul had had a good level of mail order business through lockdown and is still suitably busy which was great to hear. Amusingly my request to pay with real folding money was greeted with enthusiasm as it saved Paul getting any from the bank for a while. Just to continue on this theme for a little while longer a new method of smuggling (purchases into the family home) is currently available - everything being duly taken straight to the quarantine room to which I hold the keys and am solely familiar with the trick needed to undo the two Chubb locks during hot weather. Purchases can later gradually filter into the house once quarantine is over and be explained 'oh this has been out in the room for ages - just thought I'd bring it in'. Is this the first copy of MRJ to be placed in quarantine I wonder? A very roundabout route home was followed as my driver needed to visit Siren Craft Brew at Finchampstead in order to collect his pre-order. The place was remarkably busy considering it is effectively a hostelry (of a sort), as well as a place of off-sales, at the wrong of a cul-de-sac on an industrial estate. https://www.sirencraftbrew.com/visit-the-brewery/take-a-tour-of-siren As all the pubs we passed were equally busy, as were the roads, it came as something of a surprise to read up thread that there was some sort of major football match on today. The sort of social distancing noted outside some hostelries enroute suggests there are either some very strange ideas about what constitutes 2 metres or some very large 'bubbles' of friends etc in existence and obviously such distinction has nothing to do with social class and apparent wealth/having pelnty of dosh because the folk on the riverside lawn outside The French Horn at Sonning were some of the worst culprits. The day out was rewarded with some G word duty this evening - watering the greenhouse etc plants (and picking a few tomatoes as they are now starting to ripen) plus giving the veg patch a good hosing down this evening. Next door appear to have a number of visitors but they all seemed to be outdoors - or were earlier on judging by the noise (not that it was in the least excessive. 18

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted August 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2020 Good evening everyone It didn’t rain much more after this morning’s light shower, but it did go very dark several times, but by tea time the sun was starting to shine. I managed to complete and test 7 more circuit boards today, this means that I just have another 11 to make. Tonight’s tea was pan fried rump steak and chips, which went down very well with the management. This was followed by a slice of fruit tea cake and a glass of Shiraz as we settled down to watch a French thriller, we watched the first 2 episodes last week, tonight we saw episodes 3 & 4. Goodnight all 12

I wonder whose account has been hacked to get my email address? Anyway, our TV licence is in SWMBOs name so that was a pretty obvious spam I wonder if there will be a surge in phishing emails/scam phonecalls for TV licences for the over-75s in the coming months. Especially as there's quite a public campaign to say that "TV Licensing will contact you" with the details, now that they are abolishing the free licence for some. 4 14

Lammas or Lamas it's spelt both ways, is a village in Norfolk, not far from here, like several others it has a twin the other side of the bridge this one called Buxton. Lamas I believe was at one time famous for fayres, of course the big one was the 1st of August. Plans for today, the same as yesterday. Just hope it's a bit cooler. Time to try for more sleep. Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Today is an important anniversary for me. Two years ago, on my way to Sidmouth for the folk festival, I stopped for a cuppa in Bristol with my Aunt Gladys. Over tea I came out to her as not straight. As I burbled on relentlessly with the whole “I’ve got something to tell you” bit, she sat quietly and attentively. Then she spoke. She said three things. She said: “It’s how you were born”, she said “You’re still Christopher” (she never could call me Chris!) and she said “I did wonder". This was one of the most important things that I have ever done in 70+ years on the planet. It could all have gone horribly wrong but it went better than I had dared hope thanks to the star that is my aunt. Without the influence of one friend in particular it may never have happened. During the festival I told a few friends what had taken place. As I do not take RMweb on holiday with me, the public announcement had to wait until my return. It seemed the most natural thing in the world to post the news in ERs and I was humbled by all the kind and supportive reactions from the ER community. You lot are wonderful! One of our number had already sussed what was happening before I knew myself. Realising that your friends know you better than you know yourself is an interesting experience. Two years on, I’m out, I’m proud and I know who I am. Best wishes to all Chris 5
