Robert
my lawn is brown and cracked, other peoples seem to be green. Same here - My lawn is full of weeds, which are the only green things in there. The grass itself has gone brown and crispy. I was chatting to the roofer yesterday afternoon and he apologised for making a bit of a mess on my wonderful English lawn. I had to point out to him that not all stereotypes were necessarily fitting...
RMweb Premium eldavo Posted May 26, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2011 Morning All, Full set of oktas in place. It's quite clear why all the lawns are suffering from a lack of rain, I put some grass seed down. Guaranteed to ensure no rain until the birds have eaten all the seed. The moss that is my lawn is still quite green! Have a good one all. Cheers Dave
DDolfelin
Following an insatiable demand (from two people) I've posted an abbreviated holiday diary. I laughed when I heard another couple had paid nearly twice as much as us. I glowered when I found a couple who had paid half as much.

Robert
It's raining here but at least it's not windy. Yet. Currently it is only windy here - but we've already had a short shower and rain is threatening again. Typical - It couldn't have held off until the bloody roofers were finished, could it? RMweb Premium 45156 Posted May 26, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2011 Afternoon All Hopefully my mind will be more on things not dog-related fairly soon, as the CAT scan showed up a rare, but not incurable problem with her inner ear - not a brain tumor, stroke, or any of the other horrid things that have been mooted over the last few days, but a rather large polyp. The diagnosis was made by our ear specialist, who is "relatively confident" that she is correct, but it is subject to final ratification by a diagnostic imaging expert. If it is the unusual ear polyp, then it is apparently operable - seems that the polyp is semi-floating, and occasionally strikes another part of the inner ear, resulting in sudden loss of balance and control - this is typical of my dog to have a condition that the UK's leading dog ear specialist has not seen for ten years! While the dog was under, I took a little trip to that well known box shifter in Liverpool - as the vet had already taken a swipe for £1000 on my plastic, I did not dare buy any of the many goodies on offer, in case the transaction was refused - but it was nice to take my mind off things for a while - and I even had the sheer excitement of a trip on one of my least favourite classes of DMU - the dreaded 142 (Manchester Vic - Lime St via St Helens Jct) - ugh.. At least I had a slight improvement on the return trip with a 156. I've been following events on here when I can, and I too agree that the ERs club is something unusual in the world of web based friendship. BTW - I see that we've all noted that we are Don-less, as have I - anybody at all got any thoughts? Regards to All Stewart
Robert
Good to hear Stewart. Hopefully your hound will make a swift and full recovery. Perhaps another unusual thing about Sussex Spaniels?!?
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted May 26, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2011 Good to hear Stewart. Hopefully your hound will make a swift and full recovery. Perhaps another unusual thing about Sussex Spaniels?!? Thanks Robert - indeed Sussex are strange beasts indeed, though Sue (our specialist) does not hold to the theory that they are any different from any other spaniel, and she did say she treats some others (but ethics prevent her from telling us whose), and she insists that an inner ear polyp is rare in any dog, and she's never treated one in a Sussex before. RMweb Gold BoD Posted May 26, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2011 Why did your dog have a cat scan? Seriously though, glad to hear that it looks as though it is a (relatively) simple problem with a solution available.

Thanks BOD - I think that the specialist probably does CAT scans on dogs, and DOG scans on cats LOL. At £1000 I don't think she'll be having another one..... RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted May 26, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2011 Robbie does cat scans of our garden most evenings! It is a real territorial thing, as he isn't in the least bit aggressive to cats outside his garden. There is a new cat in town at the moment so most evenings are disturbed by unsubtle requests to go out. I'm sure the cat will eventually get the message and stop trying to get into our bird boxes! Tony
RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted May 27, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2011 Morning all. Still no rain and/or thunder, despite weather forecasts to the contrary. Farmers over here are not happy at all with the current weather, as I've been reading. Just one more course today, plus a contribution for a presentation me and three others will have to do, which I'll write up over the weekend. Cheers everyone... Robert
Morning All, As Dominik said, no rain to speak of. Apart from a couple of showers yesterday, both of which were of short duration. As long as the weather stays good until my roof is finished, I will be happy. We do desperately need some rain though. It hasn't rained properly for weeks. Hopefully we will have a cool, but wet summer. There's nowt as fickle as the weather. Have a good one everybody...
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted May 27, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2011 Morning all, weather just gloomy with a breeze.DD2 made some lebkutchen last night to mark the departure of their German assistant back to Germany personally I think there is an excess of cloves in the recipe. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted May 27, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2011 Morning all. We had 5 hours of heavy rain yesterday here but it is now only slightly overcast. RMweb Premium eldavo Posted May 27, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2011 Morning All, I think Gordon found his shorts and that is probably why the weather has turned so dismal. Only a sprinkling of rain but plenty of oktas in evidence. Time to head down to the shed I think. Have a good one all. Cheers Dave
sixoh8sixoh
Morning all. Dry and fairly bright now in Edinburgh and I'm off to play golf near Gullane. Will be listening to the cricket later and also keeping an eye on the Warwickshire vs Durham game as Durham have a good chance of winning by an innings if the weather holds. That'll bring all the cacti into flower if they got it at Great Wakering too! Dave. Great Wakering, as in less annual rainfall than Jordan? I think cacti would do well in South Essex. I've seen them growing by the roadside in the southern France. There were also flamingos. I think flamingos would be happy here as well. Tony
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted May 27, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2011 Caravan trader came and took the caravan away today, he gave us a reasonable price so that is one less worry. RMweb Premium 45156 Posted May 27, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2011 Afternoon All Just had the phone call from the specialist vet confirming her diagnosis of a polyp in the dog's right ear - this is good news, as the polyp is, in her opinion, operable, and she is now arranging for one of her surgeon colleagues to get in touch soon to arrange an estimate/appointment for us. Now for a little moan, not about here at all. Had to buy a new toilet seat last weekend, and fitted it as the old one was cream crackered. It comes with a two year guarantee, and it has fallen to bits already - a life of some five days, so a trip back to the DIY store is indicated tomorrow. Glad to see that Mick is taking positive steps to sort out what life's thrown at you and that they appear to be having results too - long may it continue.
