RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 11, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The cottage I had in Burnham when first built had an outside privy. Though it was long gone by the time I moved in its site was marked by the vigorous growth of plants (and weeds) where it stood halfway down the back garden. My grandparents house had a basement of sorts, only about four feet high and only intended for storage. When my grandparents had the house the basement was sealed off, my grandfather only discovered it when he had to lift some floorboards, the first thing he found when doing so were some steep wooden steps. The cellar had an earthen floor and today many of the houses have had the cellars deepened. 8

No clockwork gramaphone for your 78's ? Or even a mono reel2reel recorder? (I'm not sure what happened to my Ferrograph. I think I left it my dad's cellar when we went West. My brother likely junked it.) 9

Sir TophamHatt
The end of a other day. Spent half the training day talking about things other than training. Spent 20 mins having a think about this signalling problem on the layout, while waiting for the lawn mower battery to charge - ran out half way through (my fault as I forgot to charge it from last time!). Tomorrow is Sunday. Have to get out for a walk, cook roast pork meal and water the plants. I feel they're going to take a battering when I return to work properly. At least it's not due to rain for a good few days now. Cheers all! Edited July 11, 2020 by Sir TophamHatt 3

brianusa
Our Magnavox 'radiogram' bought in 1973, with a Garrard changer (Four Channel no less!) is still plugged in and is played every now and again, although its main function these days is somewhere to put a vase with some flowers.......! Whatever happened to four channel? Brian.
Ozexpatriate
Another lovely summer day here. Yesterday made it to about 27°C. Today is forecast to be about 25°C with clouds appearing this afternoon and a forecast threat of precipitation tomorrow. (I'll believe that when I see it. Now passed the 5th of July, it rarely here rains until September whatever Carole King thinks.) I'm not making much of it however. Still in our "phase one" of reopening with skyrocketing new CoViD-19 diagnoses, I am not inclined to venture out for anything besides necessities and after a supermarket run yesterday have at hand everything for my immediate needs. Little mojo for anything. Golf is on for background noise, but my big accomplishment was in cleaning toilets. I doubt they will meet Mrs. Flavio's specifications, but fortunately I do not have to subscribe to those. I distinctly remember the feel of the rubber tuning and volume controls. Popular Post Erichill16
Good Evening All, Been a pleasant day here. Sun out but a cool wind. As Syd had a sleepover we took him for a walk first thing, well at 10am and when we got back Bil had brought nephews round to play in the garden (or on the iPads). Managed to do some work and a bit of modelling. Didn’t take as long as I thought so did a bit more work so hopefully a bit more modelling tomorrow. Bit down yesterday. One of my friends from ‘the club’ had two heart attacks last week and was due out of hospital yesterday so went round with a card and some magazines. He wasn’t home so spoke to his mother and later that night I found out he’s just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He retired this week so it should have been a happy time for him and his family. The sickening thing about the situation is that he’s only 58. Anyway he seems in high spirits which I suppose is the main thing. Now he does have something to grumble about. Goodnight everyone, and make tomorrow count, Robert 1

A deeply confused Bear..... I hate to bear bad tidings (did you see what I did there?) but having been married for all but 25 years and been in a marriage-like partnership in earlier times I can assure any who need to know that cleaning still needs to be done. It might be a subject which generates friction and raised voices at times but it is the responsibility of partners equally unless agreement is reached clearly - as is the case with us - that one takes the greater responsibility In our case it is my job for the most part although SWMBO sees to her own bathroom apart from the floor. The Hill of Strawberries might be a modest establishment but we do manage a bathroom each. And guess who has spent much of today dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing the white-ware and laundering towels and bath-mats? Such is the life of the part-time worker who was allowed to remain thus after recovering from cancer on the understanding that he took on all the domestic chores. Since when there has been a slight drift back to the point where cooking is now a 60/40 split and cleaning about 90/10. There aer other points about being married but they really are terribly complicated and we don't need to worry about them at this time of night 18

Dad had a Bush radiogram like this. It had quite good speakers and a reasonable amp, mono of course. I wanted to play the latest pop tunes that I had obtained by taping the Top Twenty on Sunday evening through it. Unfortunately it didn't have a "line in" or "line out" but I soon fixed that.

Other courier companies can sometimes hand it into Parcelforce for collection of duty and extortion handling fee before delivery Talking of tracking. We have 21 boxes coming from China as a consignment. All were scanned in by the carrier at the factory at the same time. 8 arrived last week. 5 arrived earlier this week. The other 8 are on the way. Some just leaving after the first have arrived! Some have come via Delhi and The Netherlands. Some via Delhi and then Texas (I kid you not) and then to the UK. Others via South Korea and I even think I saw a tracking report from Thailand........ We are also trialling a consigment via overland container using rail. Looking good so far as it has arrived in Duisburg on schedule. 17 2
