RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted July 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 5, 2020 And so I'll type this again, I stopped typing this to check on a odd random thought on a different tab, came back to find my ramblings had rambled off.. Mooring awl inner Temple Hare, A good nights sleep, of 5 hours +2, woken by Ben the alarm clock Collie wanting out an hour early, he seemed desperate so we went out at 05:00 ish. The better sleep was assisted by my left elbow no hurting as much as it was, it's just a dull ache at the moment. It's full dull and very windy out there, with a slight drizzle. It's like standing in a slightly warm, damp hair dryer. Ben the inquisitive Collie spent some time nose up In the air inspecting a Berberis hedge, something of interest was in there.. Had a long chat with my sailing compatriot over the phone, his thigh has not healed, he's going to have to go back in for an operation to change the metal bars holding the bone together, because they're not. In a months time it will be a year since the accident... I decided to google combining my two normal breakfasts, porridge and bacon. Vast amounts of American recipes turned up, but included contaminants such as peanut butter and vast amounts of sugar. Plans for today, a light sanding of little Baron's plinth and a second coat of varnish. On that, I reached the end of one of our IPA wipe tubs at work, they are about a foot high and 5 inches in diameter with a resealable top. I thought if that's good enough to keep IPA from evaporating, it'll be good for keeping a varnish brush and white Spirit in. I'm going to claim more of those tubs as they come available for the workshop. There will be work on the boat deck as well. I'm getting hungry it will not be a combined meal, but will include bacon. Time to. Head for the kitchen.. 22

Popular Post 5 C
Morning awl from a blustery Bedfordshire where the sun is battling the clouds for supremacy. It was honours even when I surfaced but in the last 10 minutes, the clouds have pulled ahead with an attack from the west. Yesterday I did, well, not a lot. Frankly I didn't have the energy. A bit of a waste of a day but sometimes it's ok to do nothing and after a decent sleep last night, I feel far more energetic this morning. I did manage a load of washing, which is now upstairs on the airer and a short walk to Sainsbury's for milk and (hurrah!) real Marmite - not the faux variety I've been using for the last couple of weeks. On the way back I skirted the local pub and as anticipated the "measures" were proving totally ineffective. A distanced glance through the windows showed little in the way of social distancing going on. Instead, "1 metre plus" had become "1 metre considerably less" and outside in the garden it was even worse, with a dozen or more sitting shoulder to shoulder and face to face on the large tables. Loud, drunken conversations were everywhere. Elsewhere, social media showed the police called en masse early evening to a pub on the other side of town. One that's normally very respectable and not known as a troublesome venue. A pint of Doom Bar in the quiet of my own living room last night was far more acceptable and much safer. I'm also not desperate for a haircut, having successfully self-trimmed last weekend. I would like to support the ladies who run my local barber but I'll leave it until I'm going somewhere I need a proper haircut. Various before and after pictures on Farcebook from some of my female friends who had been to the hairdresser and the results seemed...not a lot different. Strange. With my energy reserves topped-up I shall attempt some exercise today along with various other chores. I have a two-day ticket to the virtual exh******n and from what I saw yesterday, it'll be worth popping in again today. Regards to awl. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted July 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 5, 2020 Good moaning from a rather damp Charente. It is allegedly going to stay damp this morning then cloudy. Not a lot got done last night apart from watching most of an episode of Vera. This morning I'm going to be fault tracing in the loft though a trip to the market is being talked about so that may change. We are out for a socially distanced lunch with some friends who are over from England and their French tenants. That should be interesting, Claude is in his 80's and has a cleft pallette and after a couple of drinks starts speaking in patois. Apart from that there isn't much else to report. Regards to all. RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted July 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 5, 2020 (edited) Morning A very pleasant afternoon and evening yesterday downing our first pints in a pub since mid March. We walked past 'Spoons' as it looked very busy and we couldn't see any vacant tables. The first pub we went inside, hand sanitizer by the door with the landlady insisting that you use it when you enter or come back form the loos. Plastic screen all along the bar and also separating the seating area off from the throroughfare. Whilst some tables were reserved we were directed to one that was reserved for later on as we were only staying for one pint. We ordered at the bar where we had to give our names and tel number. Bar lady apologisied for not having the usual Tribute on for us as we nomrally have that, so it was a pint of Doom bar and by god was it nice being very fresh. Not an ale that I would normally choose. On leaving, there was a one way system out via a different door thats normall an emregency exit. On to our local Harveys pub again bar screend off ,name ant tel number given then told we could use the seats that were marked as reserved. A pint of Harveys Best after the landlady welcomed us back and apologied for not having the seasonal ales as thats all she could get from the brewery. A sign up saying max of two hours / 3 pints, but I suspect thats to control those that she wants to. Again a one way system for departing via the function room door past loads of newly placed outdoor seating. We were then off to our prebooked session (prefilled in contact details emailed to the pub) where we had to join a very short queue till our table was ready. Only outdoor seating at this pub for now. They have 4 members of staffwith one by the gate, the landlady taking orders via ipad and contactless card reader, one in the bar pouring the drinks, another bringing the drinks to an outside table and calling your table number for you to go and collect the beer in disposable plastic glasses. Theres a single toilet at the rear of the pub where you leave the door open when you leave so others can see its vacant. The landlady advises you 10 minutes before the end of your 2 hour session as you have to leave promptly for the tbale to be thoroughly cleaned ready for the next session. WHilst all tables were occupied I suspect they are going ot find it hard work requiring that many staff and the landlady was getting tired walking up and down the sloping garden. The fourth and final pub of the day was much as per the first two and we found a vacant table outside. They only have one door in and out and all three ales were from the local Godstone Brewery so we had the Redchurch which is a very nice red ale. Back home avoiding the town but via the chip shop. So overall, a good experience had in all pubs with the third pub being more like going to a restaurant without food. Today we have a long walk to a prebooked outdoors seating only pub that we havent been to for many years and then walk back home via two others that dont require booking, so we shall see how they have interpreted the new rules. Popular Post Ozexpatriate
Just back from the artillery barrage that was unincorporated Clark County, Washington. While there had been sporadic bursts through the early evening, zero hour was about 21:15 (sunset was at 21:03) so it was still a bright twilight when the firing began. The intense barrage continued until at least 22:30 when the rockets' red* glare at last diminished. * and green, blue, white and yellow with occasional purple. People in this area go all out. Across the main road in incorporated Vancouver, rockets/mortars are not permitted. Nor are they permitted in most of the Portland metro area. Some of the neighbours were equipped with fireworks that would not go amiss in a professional display. The air felt cool and heavy and even with a breeze, the cordite smoke was thick through the duration. I expect my clothes will stink in the morning. Most people cleaned up afterwards, but I had to navigate the car around one set of mortars on my way out of the neighbourhood. Masked and distanced, it was nice to see my sons and their families. Hopefully this was not foolish. Suitable precautions were taken. Time for bed. 3 1 2

JohnDMJ
Good Morning! Ventured to the local metropolis yesterday and seem to have survived. Only pub open - 'spoons with no crowd control on the door. I observed, from the other side of the road, that the second Superdrug outlet next door was still operating a managed queuing system, as was Sainsbury's. Despite the somewhat crowded High Street, I seem to remain unscathed with a current temperature safely below 37C! 4 hours ago, Peter Eaton said: As just got up, well had Breakfast with ''Billy the/our Parrot'' first obviously. when I click on, View new content it always or seems to visit the first page in a topic & I have to then click to last page & scroll down. Simon G
Morning all, still pretty windy here, although a lot less than during the night. A walk has been walked, and it was pretty fresh out. Some gardening may get don this afternoon if the rain holds off and I can generate the necessary enthusiasm! Yesterday I was seriously annoyed when an Ebay order for some hair clippers was cancelled by the seller, over three days after I had placed the order. Apparently it was relisted in error. Later I had two ebay messages from the seller complaining that I had left negative feedback, and asking me to change it to positive feedback! Some hope! I have yet to reply. Mrs G has offered to try to give my hair a trim instead with scissors, rather than clippers. I am OK with this, but the result could be interesting! 9

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 5, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. The wind seems to have dropped a bit and its bright and sunny so I've got no excuse for not getting on with assembling the wheelbarrow. Not that I've got much else to do today. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted July 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 5, 2020 And good morning all, Late on parade today, it's getting to be a bit of a bad habit. Sunny and very breezy here but with a bit of luck it should stay dry. Normal Sunday service today at GDB Towers so a very nice cooked breakfast was enjoyed earlier. Must now have a rethink on my food intake as my weight has gone up. Before lockdown I was 14st6lbs and actually managed to lose 5lbs at one stage. First thing this morning I tipped the scales at 14st8lbs. Ooops. I really need to lose about a stone so something will have to be sacrificed for the sake of my expanding waistline. This won't stop me eating things I enjoy but I'll just have to have a lot less than of late. A lot more exercise is needed as well. Have a good one, N.O.T Sohairydieter. 13
