Baz, I was referring to the UK, just as I referred to Switzerland, as the former is the situation you are experiencing and the latter is what I am experiencing and thus was a useful frame of reference, nothing else. For example I doubt that the current cross border brouhaha between Switzerland and Germany would be repeated elsewhere and therefore is not a useful talking point (in Germany, you must wear a mask to enter a shop, in Switzerland this is not mandatory. Since the border between the two countries has opened and cross-border shopping has resumed, German shopkeepers are clashing with those Swiss shoppers who come without masks. It looks like it might escalate). I certainly agree that far too many “career politicians” in many countries have no real life experience. Too many have just gone to University then into what one could argue is a “non-job” before being handed a seat in parliament (or its equivalent) Edited June 23, 2020 by iL Dottore 8
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2020 Good morning all and particularly to Mr & Mrs Baz, a very happy anniversary to you both. Sunny here and a very warm day is forecast with temperatures possibly rising to 27°C. (Note to self, make sure fridge is stocked with cold drinks) Another day with no real plans made (yet) but the other person living here is muttering something about wanting to get out of the house for a while. I suspect that she'll want me to accompany (guard) her! Have a good one, Bob. 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2020 Happy anniversary to the Olivers. After a week or so away from ERs it's taken a while to catch up but there is the usual eclectic mix of subjects doing the rounds with the Greasy Wet and Rusty once more prominent. Still, you can't have everything I suppose..... My absence has been due to an unexpected situation arising out of nowhere that has caused me a lot of heartache and threatened to involve me in legal action so I've been somewhat distracted but at the moment is in a wait and see stage so I'm getting on with the important things of life instead - like ERs. Once muggocoffee has been finished Imust get on with carpeing the diem (the predictive text wanted to change that to diet - it may have a point). TTFN and stay safe. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2020 Mooring again, I'm now in work and have passed many poppies by the roadside, but nothing compares to this.. https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/poppy-field-near-keswick-becomes-social-media-hit-1-6711093 This is about 5 miles from my house just up on the coast, not for nothing, is this area called Poppyland.. 32 minutes ago, Erichill16 said: There are quite a large group of people, who are not ‘pensioners’ that are eligible for a free vaccine which was really my point. regards Robert However since fatal influenza is age related though not to the extent of Covid, I thought it was relevant to readers not in the UK the knowledge that Free flu jabs are available to pensioners. Actually a great many companies such as the one I work for also pay for free flu jabs for all their staff, So i get mine at the expense of the company to save the NHS the money. I'm allowed free flu jabs as a Diabetic, as over 60, and as this companies employee.. SWMBO reported that Ben the Clever Collie took his own boots off after getting back from his long walk, he soon worked out how to undo the velcro tabs.. Since the views of Donk, Various versions of Happy hippos, and Paddington. I think I'm going to have to introduce you Awl to Baron, the Blue Merle Rough Collie, about 1/5 scale.. photos will be taken as soon as my poor memory gets into action.. 18 1

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2020 Good morning everyone Up later than planned, but ho hum! It’s a bit of a dull start but quite warm. So my first task will be to move the bench to the arbour, assemble it and then push it into place ready for sitting using, so it’s bound to rain then! After that I’ve a couple of small gardening jobs to do then it’s off to the workshop to carry on with the turntable. Happy anniversary to the Olivers. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. 16 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2020 Morning all. A 4-day week here as there's a fishing trip planned for later in the week. In other news kind monetary gifts to mark a solar orbit a while back have resulted in a new pannier tank for the layout. Green with a 3-letter acronym on the side. And pristine - as I imagine a coal-fired, soot producing engine at the end of its life would have been. Rule 1 rules! 19 1 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 23, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Congratulations to Baz and Mrs. Baz. More to do in the garden today as long as the pollen doesn't rise to fast, or I might wait until this evening when its a lot cooler. Fodder run has to be fitted in as well. Looking at the illustration of the wheelbarrow I purchased on E-bay it seems that they've sent the correct body but the wrong frame. I will try the big green or orange sheds again to see if their queues are any shorter and send this one back.

The jungle has been tamed. A good cut with the brush cutter on the strimmer then I walked home and fetched the tractor. It now looms a lot better. Simon G
22 hours ago, Happy Hippo said: Ask yourself this: The Reading stabbings are all over the television news this lunchtime. But where are the massive outpourings of grief for the father, his two children and their dog killed by by the drunk driver in Cumbria? Does it mean that Southern lives are more important than Northern lives. According to the BBC they are. I was amazed that this story didnt even make the main headlines in our "local" BBC news. For some strange reason, the BBC think that the north of Cumbria is part of the North East, so our local news is dominated by Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Durham etc. The south of Cumbria is considered to be in the North West, so their news is usually dominated by Manchester and Liverpool etc. At least on ITV, we have a station that is based largely in Carlisle, so is actually local. To be fair to the BBC, the local radio, Radio Cumbria, is good when it comes to local news. However, they will insist on interviewing people over telephone lines, so that if there is the slightest background noise when you are listening, it is almost impossible to hear properly. 3 2

Popular Post Simon G
Phew - 7 pages since I last checked in! The wind from yesterday has abated somewhat, but it is still very hard to imagine that we supposedly have a heatwave due in 24 hours. I am hoping it will be nicer this afternoon when I hope to get out for a walk. Yesterday's carp weather gave me an opportunity to complete the layout control panel wiring. This was duly done, until I realised that I had made a very silly mistake. The control panel has a layout mimic diagram on the top, and I suddenly realised that it was the wrong way round! Because of the wiring being quite congested, it wasnt just a case of turning it round. Instead, I had to disconnect all the wires from the layout boards (fortunately they were terminated into chocolate block with no soldering), then turn the control panel to the correct way round, and then reconnect all the wires. I have completed that task this morning, and of course some of the wires were then too short, so slightly longer replacements were fitted. Testing of point operations etc will be done later! 4 1
