tigerburnie
Happy Birthday Andy. Quiet day today due to cool and damp weather so a bit of the "G" word under glass and a bit of inspecting eyelids this afternoon, we intend to go out with the Bat Detector in an hour to see what's about, we seem to have found two separate groups and have plans to try the southern end of the village looking for more, they do apparently roost together in the winter. 18

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted June 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2020 Better late than never - a happy birthday to Andy B. The latter part of today has been a little difficult as SWMBO's anxiety has spiked yet again. I really don't know what I can do to help her through any more than I am already doing which is mostly comprised of TLC, calm reassuring words and the provision of food and drink as and when requested. She has also been sleeping less well and with a shifted pattern of hours compared with her norm. She continues to WFH but takes breaks as frequently as she can. Whilst more of her staff are returning from furlough she cannot WFW until the workplace removes their own ban on higher-risk employees being in the workplace. And now there is also talk of mandatory salary cuts and / or redundancies. Only talks at this stage but it serves to drive her anxiety off the scale. All of which in turn has a knock-on effect here because I am not infinitely resilient myself. The new requirement for front-line rail staff to effectively police the mandatory wearing of face-coverings has not gone down well here either. We don't know yet how that will play out but I for one am not prepared to place myself in a position of greater potential conflict. It will be hard enough having to wear the wretched thing for who knows how long. Those fellow facial fungus-wearers might understand. I wish all a good and peaceful night. I hope to have one too but the brain is racing while the eyes are tired which isn't a good combination ..... 1

I try and ease my wife's day by doing a lot of chores and cooking etc. Seems to work out OK! Luckily we don't have to go to work next day so theres a lot of recovery time available. The facial fungus may have to go though as it looks as though facial coverings are here to stay for a while. Brian. And Ikea - you can forget it. One of my fellow workmates has a partner who works at IKEA. She had to have a back to work interview and it went something like this: Phone call middle of last week. Manager: "We're thinking of opening next week, but because you've been off so long, you have to have a back-to-work interview. Are you OK doing this by phone?" "Yes" was the reply. "Have you had symptoms, or been diagnosed with Covid-19?" "No" "Are you feeling OK after the long break?" "Yes" "See you next Monday!"........................ The maximum allowed number in the store was 1000, with many more queued outside on Monday. Apparently it was total mayhem and duly reported in the local news and social media. As a result Tuesday/Wednesday was dead! Similarly, there have been long queues at my local MacD's since it opened yesterday without fanfare, but when I passed earlier this evening, there were only 2-3 cars there. The KFC opposite is now regarded as "very busy" if there are more than 5 cars in the queue. Lie-in planned for tomorrow. Have a good Friday folks. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted June 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2020 While it's still (just) valid, I'll wish Andy a happy birthday. Most of today was taken up in various ways by getting Dad back to his own home. He's been living with us now for just short of three months and with the best will in the world there were frictions developing plus he was becoming totally dependent on Jill and me and losing all semblance of independance. Hence we thought that he should go back to how things were before our response to the wuflu lockdown was to bring him to stay with us, i.e., living in his own house but coming here most days for his evening meal. We will still do his provisioning for him and Jill will do his washing but we are hoping that he will get back into partially looking after himself. Only time will tell. Back tomorrow with, I hope, a bit more upbeat news. Night night all. Dave 1 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted June 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2020 I didn’t clean the car today though a few rain drops did land on it earlier this evening. I really haven’t done much today, I felt quite unwell until this evening and only felt ok after dinner. Probably just need medication effects. It felt as if I were moving through treacle earlier or dragging a big weight about. Talking about treacle I noticed that it was mentioned earlier in connection with bread pudding. I hope you all store it (treacle not the pudding) safely and use appropriate PPE when handling. And as for custard powder...
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted June 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2020 Good evening everyone Both of my shopping trips this morning were as successful as I’d hoped they’d be, but there was quite a queue at the Trafford Centre, but that is now part of what is being called the “new normal”. After ER’s dinner I spent the rest of the afternoon in the workshop carrying out more tests on the turntable. I’ve tried a couple of things to see if I can reduce the jerkiness but with no real benefits. I did find that the lower bearing was a little stiff, so I replaced that and there was a slight improvement, but that’s all. I’m now starting to think that there is too much pressure being applied to the edge of the indexing table from the limit switch arms, so tomorrow I plan to run the indexing table without the rollers touching it, if it runs freely, then I’ll have to look to see if I can reduce the spring pressure, whilst still maintaining the accuracy that I currently have. If that can’t be done, then I’ll look at purchasing some opto-interrupters, to replace the limits switches. I’ve been doing some online research over the last couple of nights and they seem to be easy enough to set up. Goodnight all

RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted June 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 5, 2020 The beard trimmer worked pretty well. The length is now generally even. Next job may be the hair. We have to move the motorhome. The lady where we were storing it died (aged 91) and the posh neighbours want them moved -- apparently they liked Mrs. Bayne enough to put up with them. We have until the end of the month. 1

When I lived in Andover, Hampshire, In the mid 80s, I was told by an elderly Andovian that many of this Hampshire market town’s problems were due to the influx of what he termed, euphemistically, as “London Overspill“. 17 hours ago, Tony_S said: ...I suppose if I had been born born 10 years later I could have been raised in Telford. ... Given that I am not yet quite completely forgiven by Mrs ID for forking out a large wodge of cash on buying my new HIWATT Amp and Cab, to try and put things into perspective I told her about the prices they are asking for the large-scale radio controlled tanks, I don’t think that she believed me... 7 hours ago, JohnDMJ said: I always thought of Sweep as a dog too! ... 6 hours ago, New Haven Neil said: Sweep is a dog, surely?.. Even at the relatively unsophisticated and world naive age of four (when I first became aware of Sooty and Sweep), it was clear to me that Sweep was a dog, although I never did twig that Soo was a Panda and not a Bear. At one time I actually did have both a Sooty and a Sweep glove puppet. Goodness knows what happened to them. 6 hours ago, AndyB said: ...The speed of "Time" is influenced by local gravitational fields. Close to "dense stuff" it passes somewhat slower... Those fellow facial fungus-wearers might understand. ... Actually, a good mask is quite comfortable to wear. Numerous times during my career I had to regularly wear a mask, in theatre or in A&E, and it’s surprising how easy it is to get used to wearing them. “Facial fungus“, if neat and close trimmed, is not an impediment to wearing a mask (I currently have a goatee and moustache which prove no problem to wearing a mask when I have to). The surgeon who performed my recent patellary resurfacing also had a beard. However, I suspect that if your beard approaches Victorian Explorer/Millennial Hipster volume and dimensions you would indeed have a problem wearing a mask. I quickly popped over to the thread about discussing the recent requirement to wear facemasks on public transport (and elsewhere), and I was appalled to learn that in its infinite incompetence the government has decided that masks are mandatory except if... quite frankly if you have breathing problems and/or other disability likely to make wearing a mask difficult or impossible, you really shouldn’t be going out amongst loads of people (especially if you have breathing problems). A belated “Happy Birthday” to AndyB, may we ask how old? (to the nearest decade). An incredibly relaxing long weekend beckons; I will walk the dogs as Mrs ID packs the car for her trip to the Holiday Hovel in the mountains, I will then dash to the local electronics store (now open) and acquire a 2 TB hard disk to expand my PS4 storage capabilities. Having waived goodbye to Mrs iD and The Wolfpack as she sets off for a much needed (and deserved) week’s holiday; I am then faced with the excruciating dilemma of: do I grill the dry aged T-bone steak for my dinner tonight OR shall I be a little bit more energetic and make a Keralan prawn curry (with extra chilies). Decisions, decisions... To all, except JohnDMJ I wish you a splendid POETS day; whereas I wish JohnDMJ another productive POTS day! I may be back later. Popular Post AndyID
The aforementioned Finnish Mower has been acquired. Unfortunately the telescoping drive-shaft only telescopes half as far as it should. On closer inspection it's also evident that some total twinky has attacked the splines with an angle grinder. I suspect the shaft has been bent or even twisted although it's hard to imagine how either could have happened. On the other hand, the mower doesn't seem to be in bad shape. Just needs a bit of TLC a few bits that I can make myself. Tomorrow words will be exchanged with the retail emporium of agricultural equipment from which said mower was purchased. I hope I don't have to give the sales guy the shaft. 3 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted June 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 5, 2020 Good moaning all from the Charente that may get a tad maritime today. Some cherries were picked yesterday and I went to the garden centre for some stuff for Beth. On the way I picked my mate Andy up and after purchases had been made we had a very pleasant hour sitting on the station watching trains. 3 nice freights in 40 minutes. For tea itvwas fush and chips as usual in Aulnay. The bar has reopened so we sat in the beer garden and were joined by a friend. A good evening. Tiday some more cherries will be pucked and Beth and a friend are then going to make cherry jam. I plan to head for the shed. The builders will continue with the roof work. Belated birthday wishes to Andy B. Dave H, hope that the relocation goes well. Tony S I hope that you feel better soon. Regards to all.
