Left knee playing up, first time I've used the landrover clutch in 10 weeks.. It by the way started instantly!! I'd like to see the solution to the camera problem, it's not to dissimilar to my problem, of getting Wi-Fi 150yards away round a treed corner. I just use a step ladder to work on our fanlight. Plans for today, start building more plant pot shelving, when finished it will help hide the tatty garage, and "unite" the view of sheds and garage. Melting lead once more. Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Today is another anniversary. [Cue Brenda from Bristol: What, another one?] At least one gentle reader will take me to task for reminiscing again. Fifty years ago today, on 27th May 1970, I started work as a Clerical Officer at the Eastern Road Construction Unit in Bedford. It was the first job I had been offered in the year since leaving university and I thought I had better take it. I dealt with the statutory processes enabling the construction of new trunk roads and motorways in the East of England. My workmates were by and large a congenial bunch but although the top management were pretty good at motivating the troops there were in general too many chiefs and not enough Indians. My dislike of pointless meetings soon made its presence felt and has coloured my judgement ever since. If I had to choose a favourite task it would be drafting responses for Ministers to send to MPs. The one downside was that from time to time I had to attend and help run public inquiries. This entailed being away from home for extended periods and did my social life and mental health no favours. There were many worse jobs that I could have had though. Flavio, thank you for correcting my attempt at translation. Should I make it to Switzerland at Christmas I am due to be based in Lausanne for New Year. Informed sources tell me that there are some less than mainstream beer outlets there. When I first started going to Switzerland we had a beer hunter in the group who was incomparable at hunting down little oases of good beer. As a group we know little of wine. Perhaps we should broaden our horizons. This morning there is a fodder run to be undertaken and the ironing that did not get done yesterday. This evening we, ie the Bletchley Area of the HMRS, have a virtual study walk, much less strenuous than trudging from Luton Airport Parkway to Harpenden East but hopefully just as interesting. By then BT may have sorted out their webshite. I had an e-mail telling me that my bill is ready to view but when I clicked [cluck?] I could not view it. Unimpressive. Best wishes to all Chris 14

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted May 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 27, 2020 Morning all. It seems to be sunny and pleasantly warm already. The big event today is our food shopping arriving at about 11am. No bins today due to the Bank Holiday on Monday. I am confident that the doubled doses of medications I started yesterday is working. I had no trouble booking the blood test for a fortnights time either. Tony 6
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted May 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2020 Ey up! Weird dreams again..pah! I may have to "do a Cummings and visit my Sister and someone who is an ER. As I am now in possession of my sander doors can be prepared and worked on. Frabjoy! But they need some paint. Notice that I don't get ads on my tablet. Is this too much of a good thing ? Time for a muggatea. Stay safe! Positive thoughts to all ERs especially BoD (and his family). Right, now to kickstart Wednesday..now where is my tea!! RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted May 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2020 Good moaning to all. It's sunny again here and will stay that way according to the seaweed twirlers. I have no idea what the day will bring. We are in a period of calm before the storm as the builder starts on Friday with the pool base then will move on to painting the exterior of the house before re tiling the main part of the roof. On the 10th a decorator is due to start painting thd main bedroom and the hallway. I think a couple of calm days are essential. I may even head for the shed. Hope to hearcsome news from BoD and other missing ER's. Regards to all and stay safe out there. Jamie

Ozexpatriate
There was a day last week where a recorded message purporting to be the US Social Security Administration telling me that my "social security number was being suspended" ( ! ) called me several times. The odd thing is that caller ID kept changing the number, one of which included the local electricity company. I've had others telling me that dreadful things are happening to my iCloud account. (I own no Apple products*.) The telephone call threatening legal action was funny. Perhaps that's a social distancing thing? Most of the legal proceedings I've every heard of usually come in writing - often served in person. * That's not strictly true. There's a boxed iPod Nano somewhere that I never activated. She just put the phone down on them then went to the bank. Turned out it was a genuine call but they were fine with her actions and much better to do that than trust such calls. At her age its good that she has that way of dealing with calls. Currently she has a loud beeping in the kitchen but it could be the boiler in the loft above. However unless I do a Cummings I cant go in to check if it is, so she may have to call out the boiler service people but that will cost her and will be a waste if its a smoke alarm battery issue. I have her shopping to deliver this morning. Only just managed to fit the chilled stuff into the fridge. I am lucky that there was just enough room to fit the last few items into the shed fridge. Must remember to go and get them. I am currently awaiting an order from one of our ER's workplace but as there is no rush o get the items I am not phoning . I am after paving slabs form one of our local builders merchants but you have to phone to pay and get a time slot to collect. There website doesn't allow online ordering unless you have a company account so I phoned last week but a long wait, got through eventually only to be immediately transferred and didn't get through to anyone. Bizzare and at present they haven't had a bigger order based on having got just a few to see what they are like quality wise. My other half is watching a company video on new measure for socially distancing. only 4 in a lift at a time and wearing of masks given out in reception. Its a high rise building with circa a 1,000 workers so that's going to be a long queue if the office ever gets full again. Luckily they have suggested that only certain people will be required in the office and she may well be working from home into the Winter. My last company is looking at reopening the office for everyone to return. They have moved to another location where they cant open windows and air con units extending over partitions where some want it hot and other want it cool. Glad I am no longer there. Must plant a few more seeds. The lettuce seeds planted last week are now 1" high plants. 15
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted May 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 27, 2020 BT emails containing links for seeing your bill always address you by your first name and show every other letter of your email address. As Jamie says, they also show a BT company address if you hover the mouse over the alleged address shown whereas scam ones show some other one (although some of the more clever ones show a BT address but it is a private one rather than a company one). I recently had a call from someone telling me that there were problems with my Sky account so I quizzed him for several minutes about the details. He was quite inventive and sounded plausible but eventually broke the connection when I told him that actually I don't have Sky. Once muggocoffee has been finished Jill and I are off for a walk at a local beauty spot before many other folk get there then this afternoon we've got some deliveries from our market traders and there's always the chance of some modelling. I'm currently making a breakdown crane kit that Jill bought for me over twenty years ago but either I've lost some of the instructions or they weren't there in the first place. Luckily Jamie has made one and still has the instructions so he kindly scanned them for me - another plus point for being a member of the ER community and the lovely folk who inhabit it. Have a good Wednesday everyone. Dave 21 1 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted May 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 27, 2020 Good morning all. Son and partner are doing well enough, thank you. She seems to be tired and lethargic most of the time but the symptoms thankfully remain mild. It hasn’t affected anything major - like breathing. We’ll take that. He appears to spend time watching German football and drinking beer. We have done a weekly shop for them and just left it in their porch. Today is our weekly shop and at the same time I do one for my mum. Isn’t life exciting. Must have a run out to Barney* to liven things up a bit. *Baz will understand. 3

The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where it is sunny but there is some high cloud in the sky. Work continues apace. The "urgent" work I spent all last week getting frustrated by seems to have been accepted without demur by the powers that be. I suspect this means they know what I was working with.... We now know when Mrs Lurker will be working when the schools go back - but not when Younger Lurker will be attending. I just hope they have managed to remember to have him at the same time as her; it will make transportation and the like so much earlier. Right, I had better go -0 a call with Czechia beckons!

Popular Post The Lurker
Right, back again between calls. The other piece of news from the Lurker household is that Younger Lurker has now mastered how to tie a shoelace. This is a task that we all mastered when small - for him it is a fairly major achievement with his reduced fine motor skills and reduced ability to visualise the process. He hasn't got double knots yet but even so it's good news. Next in the list of influential albums. 7. "Pornography" - The Cure. A lot of the music I like tends towards the melancholy. This album has that in spades with a claustrophobia that almost overrides it all. Somehow it all works for me and for me the Cure hit heights here that they never achieved again. 18
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2020 (edited) Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit to do today, I've decided to order the new shed so I have to clear the hard standing where its got to go. Shouldn't take too long but the hay fever is making itself felt already. Then there's the fodder run, queues hopefully will be as short as they have been recently. Surprisingly I finished Facebook quite early last night. I didn't realise how slow the old computer had become before it went belly up. The only problem with this 'new' computer is its very noisy. Thats it for now, be back later.
