Ozexpatriate
There is something strange on my television; live professional golf in the form of a charity skins match to benefit the American Nurses Foundation / CDC Foundation from the Seminole Golf Course in Juno Beach, Florida. No caddies. The players are carrying their own bags. Officials are handling the flagstick. The PGA tour resumes in June I believe; without a gallery. EDIT: Later in the broadcast we were subjected to a telephone interview with the nation's "golf fan in chief" which very quickly devolved into his usual talking points. The call was mercifully short. Interestingly his comments on professional golf were more articulate and accurate than anything else he said. Ozexpatriate
In a mash-up of tangentially, retro-musical news and the virus, you may have, for your very own, the DEVO 'energy dome' hat from "Whip It" as a face shield. Guaranteed to (I don't know what) whip it? Turn heads? Maybe not as much as Rick in his tartan birthday suit. She could wear the same or the Cornish Dress which has a grey rather than yellow base but prefers to not wear either. She does have a couple of Royal Stewart tartan items which, in theory, may only be worn with the approval of the Sovereign but which these days is such a commonly-sold "generic" tartan that the "offence" of wearing it without Royal consent is overlooked at every level.

Brian, would I correct in (naughtily) assuming that you live in a part of the US where radio choice is limited to “shock-jocks”, “hellfire-and-damnation preachers”, rap and C&W? Sorry, iL D, we live in that bastion of liberal tech, Washington State, west of the Cascades although the area does have its share of whom you write. Brian. Popular Post Erichill16
Dear All, Another day over and no modelling done. As I mentioned yesterday it was a ten year old nephews birthday today so went to leave him his present on his doorstep. He was pleased to see us and does understand social distancing and gave us a ‘virtual hug’ . 17th of May is also a memorable day for SHMBO. This year marks the fortieth anniversary of her brothers death at the age of nineteen so I’m not bothered that I didn’t get any modelling done, I (we) have always got tomorrow. Keep your peckers up, Robert.

Ozexpatriate
At 8:32am PDT (16:32 BST), 40 years ago on the morning of May 18, 1980, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake and landslide, triggered the explosive eruption of the Mt. Saint Helens stratovolcano about 100km from here (if the crow flew in a roughly NNE direction). From the antipodes, I remember watching television footage of the lahar flow down the Toutle River. Locals who lived here then have interesting stories of that time. The day was rainy (unsurprisingly) and people experienced gutters full of a rain and ash slurry falling from their houses. A former colleague who lived in Yakima, Washington (135km ENE of the volcano) under the heaviest part of the ashfall remembers the day being as dark as night and for years later the lawn mower blowing up clouds of volcanic ash. Popular Post leopardml2341
Evenin' all. Looks like some good times have been had today The 'grey' in South Derbyshire left sometime mid morning and I now have a warm glow upon my back. Lots achieved, kn@ckered again and in mi bed ready for some kip, Doggo's been at it for some time. Occasional muffled barking and legs twitching, he must dream about that bl@@dy bone as well On the subject of music, for me it's owt from Strauss to Sham69 as the mood takes, though a few recurring choices seem to be Phil Coulter, Fisherman's Friends and Penguin Cafe Orchestra with some Paolo Nutini thrown into the mix. That's it from me for today, another day of not working from home tomorrow. Must check the forecast to see if it's going to be an indoors or outdoors day. Goodnight, keep well, stay safe and pleasant dreams until tomorrow. Edit; checked weather - outdoors Edited May 17, 2020 by leopardml2341
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted May 17, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2020 Lummy, where did Sunday go? Belated Birthday wishes Rick! Had a busy day getting a round tuit stuff done... lots of kits still to build but the pile of repairs/remotor/regear has decreased markedly. I just wonder about "common sense".. -- news shots of Durdle door indicate that if we were handing out awards for having common sense there would be none for the people travelling to the Beach. I did some cookery today - apple scones...Sugar free - easy to make - even her indoors reckon they are edible... might have to do some more cookery soon.. probably are corned beef and onion pie...yummy! My music tastes are so eclectic picking 10 albums would be a monumental task..from the Baroque through the 60s, 70s, 80 and on to today. Favourite Bands seen live - Genesis, Lindesfarne, Mark Knopfler (well Dire Strates) , Fleetwood Mack and, of course, the local lads Kaiser Chiefs. (did listen to Santana at Leeds Uni..couldn't get a ticket so sat outside and listened) I missed seeing Hootie and the Blowfish in Leeds last year.. my last chance of seeing them live methinks, But there again I also like the Rat Pack, Flanders and Swann, Ella Fitzgerald...see I am easily pleased... I do listen to Classic FM a lot.. her indoors doesn't like the adverts and retreats into her lair with Radio 3. Time to finish my mugadecaf, BAz 20

tigerburnie
Evening all, a funny old day warmish windy at times and that's just me, the weathers been similar too, got a bit of the "G" word done, with warmer overnight temps I'm risking planting some stuff out from the greenhouse, I need the room in there, stuff is now growing. Managed an hour playing trains, a bit of muddling did take place as well, more wagons being weathered, but I need more stuff when I can get out to get it. G'night all and take care 14
MichaelE
It's been raining quite a bit here in the Midwestern US. I was out with Lisl von Schlaf a bit ago and it started up again. Temps been running around 23°C give or take. But cloudy and rainy with spots of sun between showers. 12
Popular Post Simon G
Evening all, Not the best day here today, as the weather was cool, breezy and dull, which meant that I didn’t fancy doing much outside in the garden. Work on my layout control panel has temporarily ceased, as I needed a few extra bits, which are now on order. On the bright side, this evening we finally had some rain, desperately needed by the garden, so no watering by hosepipe required today for the first time in about 2 weeks. Hopefully the rain will continue overnight and then stop so that I can get out in the morning. Eight weeks of self isolation now done. I am rather getting used to it, though I have started going out for a bit of a walk when it is dark and there is no-one around. I feel rather furtive about the walking, but I am sure that I feel better for it! Goodnight all 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 17, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2020 Good evening everyone Well the sun never actually came out but it did get brighter and warmer, I was even able to leave the workshop door open for most of the day. After watering the garden I started work on the indexing table of the turntable. But before starting to fit the switches, I consulted my layout plan and found it only has 3 exits/entry roads. 1 is straight through and the other slightly to the left of this, leading to the coaling stage area. I had mistakenly thought there was 4 exits/entry’s, but it now means that I only needed 4 start/stopping positions, so I now have 2 spare switch assembles. For those wondering why I need 4 positions, one position directly opposite the exit to the coaling stage, which enables a loco to be driven on, turned around 180 degrees and then driven back off. I then made a start on fitting mounting the 4 of the switches, these have also had the stricken adjusted to that the switch operates just as the roller reaches the bottom of the notch. Once happy with the set up, I made started making wiring loom for the switches and then began installing it.started to solder the switches up, but it’s not quite done yet, but I’ve only got 1 switch left to connect up. I’ve fitted a 5 way terminal block on the index table where all the switch wiring terminates and then to a 5 pin socket. I’ll make a 5 core cable with plugs on each end to connect between the indexing table and the 5 pin socket in the control panel. This evening it was my turn to ring my brother in Canada, as is the norm, we didn’t change the world, but it was nice to catch up. I’m up early(ish) tomorrow as I’m at The Christie for my 3 monthly blood test. They’ve got a one way system in place at the hospital, in through one (the main) entrance and out via a different one. The main entrance is as far from the car park as you can get and the exit isn’t much better, so I’ll be doing quite a bit of walking tomorrow morning. Goodnight all. 13
