Yeah, I wish Andy, I have to get a door knocked in from the Hall to the back of the Garage, then fit it out as a room / ish, sealing up the up and over door from the inside. Popular Post Ian Abel
Afternoon all, Most of the sensible part of yesterday and today preoccupied with letting cleaning crew come-and-go, chasing down city personnel and insurance agents etc. Amazing how much time can be spent on the phone accomplishing sod all! Everyone assures us it'll all be handled, it's just time-consuming and frustrating contacting half the global population to make it happen! Awaiting the arrival now of someone to bid on fixing everything <yawn> 6 this morning heading for a high of 15 and nice sunny day. Carry on, stay safe. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted May 12, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2020 strange sort of day today. Bits of modelling completed, some more tidying up done...had to drive to the Post Office as her indoors had noted it was chuckinitdarn. Video chat with Dr Eldest Herbert.. he is OK and has things to get on with. We have had sun/rain/sun/rain/sun but overall a very cold lazy wind. Pah! TTFN, a beer is calling me... Evening all. Up a trifle later than planned awaiting a late-running delivery. Allegedly still coming today. The tracker states "It's running late" though also that it was "Out for delivery at 7.07am" from Feltham which is only a couple of miles up the road. Even if it's first-on-last-off that will be a long day for the driver. Three other parcels have arrived. Two addressed to SWMBO which proved to be books and a third addressed to me which I wasn't expecting. It bore a sender's label from a Perranporth address and upon sighting same SWMBO deftly removed the item from my hands and announced she had been tipped to watch for it and keep it safe until Sunday ..... I hadn't opened it so the contents will remain a surprise. What was a surprise was that all three parcels arrived at quite different times but delivered by the same DPD person! No co-ordination there, then. My "missing" item is also out with DPD; it has 55 minutes in which to arrive before the lights go out and I hit the sack. I'll allow for a van breakdown or similar mishap but can't wait up for ever on a school night 26 minutes ago, Ozexpatriate said: 48 minutes ago, brianusa said: There was a time in a land far, far away ... Such was the reach and popularity of the ad that Michael Russell went on to write that very book under that nom-de-plume. Neighbour (Upstairs) was espied briefly as we tended our terrace garden; she gets larger by the day and whilst no expert on these things I suspect they must be preparing for a small person to arrive quite soon. Otherwise all is quiet Upon the Hill of Strawberries and it is time to wish one and all a good and safe night. 21 1

Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, As other ERs I wish to send my condolences to Andrew and hope the pain soon eases. At the moment we’re looking after BILs nine month old dog and he rang up to see if we would look after him for a bit longer. How long SWHMBO asked and was told we can have him if we want. We both love Sydney but ......... Regarding the pizza in Switzerland the bill came to about CHF 60 which equates to approximately £50. In fairness the restaurant was in a tourist region and did have views of the Eiger so probably not too bad value when compared to iD’s in NWSchweiz. Also GF food is usually more expensive that the non GF equivalent. My favourite beers were Bud but with Fish and chips it had to be Newcastle Brown, neither of which come with a GF alternative. Actually even the fish and chips are a problem now. Night, Robert 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 12, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2020 (edited) Evening all, When we got our first mortgage it was at 9.5%, this rapidly went up to 15%. Now as I approach retirement, we are building a small safety margin in the bank, and the interest on the savings account has steadily gone down from, 0.45% to we are informed today, on the 12th June 0.01% Typical of our luck... I will however start searching for alternatives tomorrow.. And so to something 0.68% scale, the tiny radar. When you work on something that size you end up working on it 1 ft to 18 inches from your eyes. I get very disappointed with my work and my inability to model everything correctly . I see every imperfection because I know what is there in 100% scale because I've worked on it. What I forget is the punters watching from the front of the layout will be viewing from a scale minimum of 450ft probably more like 600ft And so here is a picture of my work so far with this tablet held at a scale 200ft. Note the top of white drive shaft, is approximately to the top of the future aerial. Edited May 12, 2020 by TheQ 13

Ozexpatriate
On governance. During the quarantine, the local Public television station has changed up their daytime programming away from semi-educational entertainment for pre-schoolers to what are normally evening documentaries. I'm sure many of you are at least aware of the prolific US documentarian Ken Burns, famous, in particular for his "The Civil War" documentary (which clocks in at 11 hours and 30 minutes in nine episodes). The local PBS channel recently presented, each Monday, his seven part, 14 hour documentary "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History" which focuses on TR and spouses / fifth cousins once removed, Franklin and Eleanor. I had seen this before (and read a fairly comprehensive biography of FDR) but seeing this again, during the pandemic, made me think of the nature of leadership in a democracy. What Roosevelt (and Churchill) achieved was nothing short of astonishing. Both of them were deeply flawed individuals in many respects but they (despite their many detractors, and often the force of public opinion) rose above it all. FDR in particular had a phenomenal political skill to lead an unwilling electorate to his point of view. His governance in 1940 and 1941, (1940 was the election campaign where he broke Washington's precedent of not seeking a third term in office) was truly remarkable. While it takes a great crisis to truly highlight a great ability to govern, a great crisis puts in sharp focus those who are pretenders to the job. RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted May 12, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2020 Tough day WFW. One of those days that was absolute non-stop and at the end of it (well after normal finishing time) it felt like I'd accomplished s*d all................... WFH tomorrow, so that's 35 minutes less off the 36 minute commute that may be used for extra zzzz. It will be a POOT (on-time) as I have an appointment nearby at 5.30pm with a field, some odd-shaped metal sticks and a white ball (or more if I lose it/them). First time I've seen one of these flags in over 8 weeks. Stay safe folks. Cheers, Mick 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 12, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2020 Good evening everyone More progress has been made on the arbor, all the cladding has been cut and fitted, some of it is only temporary until final erection of the arbor takes place. I’ve also found a suitable piece of wood in my stock pile that I can use to make a pair of decorative barge boards for the front. It took quite a it of working out to get the spacing right so that it looked right. This is something that Sheila said would look nice but I wasn’t sure if I’d got any wood suitable. I haven’t told her yet that I’ve found a piece, so it will be a bit of a surprise when she sees it. We spoke to Vickie last night and she mentioned that the big orange DIY shed was quite at around 5 o’clock in the afternoon, so I went just after 4:30 and found there was no queue, it was empty but it was fairly quiet and I didn’t have to queue at the checkout either. So I came away with some wood to make new slats for the 2 garden benches, some trellis for the arbor and some spray paint for another job. For some reason you can’t order spray paint for delivery, or click and collect! I had another phone phone call from the big orange DIY shed, the delivery of paint from them has been delayed yet again as they still don’t have any in stock, I’m not too bothered about this, but it’s really p!ssing Sheila off, I don’t know why, she isn’t going to be doing the painting! Andy. So to read about Tiggr Goodnight all
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted May 12, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2020 ' evening all from red dragon land. Toot on the flute progressing slowly, hindered by slow progress on the fife box. Measuring, cutting and tweaking...and eventually some glueing. Almost there. Two days of no bike ride. Waiting for the sun to come out. And a bit of mo*d*ll*ng, done mostly on the laptop, creating a headboard that looks convincing. If all fails, I can just blur it and it will look like the one in the photo! Fitt and Elfie still going strong - having trouble keeping up with them. Take care. Play safe. _________ Best wishes Polly 16
