Evening all,  

I saw the way John C carefully led the way into another joke requiring the groan button. 

 

It's still very warm here,  but I've just loaded up the stove ,  hopefully it will get into Max heat mode as the cold front hits us during the night. 

 

I fell asleep after this morning's efforts,  when I awoke I put my boots on and headed for where Ben the I want my long walk Collie's lead and throwing stick are.. But they were gone,  he had pestered SWMBO to go while I was snoring.. 

 

As it was At 14:00 I looked out the back to see a male adult muntjac munching away, out in the open.  He legged it when Ben returned. Unusual to see one at that time of day. 

 

Later watching a recorded during the week old episode of Merlin.... Mystery disease hits town,  killing odd people,  king has to order isolation... Sounds familiar from somewhere.. 

 

Later still working on the third platform of the radar,  it a bit difficult without a clear picture,  what is clear is it's a double layer with at least a Jack in each corner for leveling. Perched on that is the main turntable that takes the weight and the 4 drive motors.  Today Mr postman delivered... Some ball races.  One is now mounted on the third platform.. 

Much more yellow snow was produced slartybartfast is now happy with that piece of work.

Evening all.  

 

A warm day it has been and no mistake.  24C officially although 26C was registered on the Terrace and Lawns of the Hill of Strawberries.  Numerous of the Hillite Neighbours were to be seen disporting themselves in bathing attire across the lawns and yes that did include Yours Truly although SWMBO abstained and sat quietly in the shade needlepointing.  

 

It has been a day of arrivals.  First the fruit and veg delivery which arrived moments before I was ready and resulted in a hasty application of clothing before answering the door.  Shortly afterwards my order for piano wire plopped through the letterbox and, after the now-customary wipe with sanitiser, was swiftly removed to the multi-purpose room wherein lies its destiny in the shape of tiny fence-posts.  Later in the afternoon Ocado delivered all but two of the items on the order; in fairness it would be rather hard to substitute dill with another herb and likewise Quorn Thai Bites wouldn't have any obvious alternative.  The rest was all there without substitutions.  

 

Tomorrow is forecast to be cooler and Monday is predicted to bring a return to near-zero overnight in a stiff northerly.  It might be time to start complaining about the weather again

 

Mixed reports from Cornwall suggested that there was a large number of people about not recognised as locals yet photos of car parks and beaches suggested both were quite sparingly populated.  I totally get that people are tiring of restrictions and sense an easing as the virus wanes.  There is a definite move towards more time outdoors, less rigid distancing and in this weather more sitting around in parks and - from personal observation - on the Green up the road.  There is also (around here at least) no policing of public open spaces.   Let's see what tomorrow night brings.  Not much I'll wager but a slight easing in some areas and an acknowledgement of reality and that 67 million people aren't going to be able to carry on as we are for too much longer.  

 

SWMBO is uneasy about returning to work on Monday; she isn't even required to leave home so I truly don't know what to suggest for her.  I'm sure it will be fine when it happens.

This brought a tear to my eyes, sorry to read that. The suggestion to have the vet come to your place is a good one. When I had Tyger put to sleep (oh, how I hate that phrase!), I could not get the vet to do that. When I brought him home, I buried him under a small tree in the back yard. Anyway, please post some photos of Tiggr for us.

Not really RAF wisdom, as that saying was borrowed from the Fleet Air Arm. For a landing to be considered good in the RAF, at least in my nearly 40 years aviating for HRH, for a landing to be considered good the aircraft had to be able to fly again. It wasn't actually specified in what timescale and how much rectification had to be carried out before the next flight, though, so I suppose on reflection that the two definitions were somewhat similar after all. Out of probably something like ten thousand landings I did only once was the aircraft considered beyond help and scrapped. Mind you, according to the FAA it was a good landing as I did manage to walk away from it. A flying instructor of mine once said that a good sortie was one where nobody involved had to change their underwear afterwards - maybe a relative of HH?

Good evening everyone 

 

Well it’s been a glorious day, wall to wall sunshine and quite warm by mid afternoon. Quite a bit of progress has been made with the manufacture of the limit switch arms. Once I’d dismantled the prototype I was then able to take some measurements. I then made drawings of both the operating arm and the switch base. I then went through my stash of rubbish stuff that might come in useful and found an old broken Perspex safety screen that would do for the parts. So I then decided to start on making the operating arms first, as these require a lot more work than the bases. Each arm has a small roller bearing acting as a wheel, a spring retaining pin and an adjustable striker arm, as well as a hole for the main pivot rod. By the time I’d knocked for the day I’d completely finished 2, another 2 have had the arm filed to size and are ready for drilling an a further 2 are ready to be filed. I only need 5, but I’m making up a spare whilst I’m at it. Each assembly will be identical so that if one does fail, it will be a straight forward swap, with just the striker arm requiring adjustments. Hopefully I’ll have the 6 finished tomorrow and I will have started on the bases. These are basically a 60mm square with several holes in them, some of which will require a thread cutting in them.

Still alive and kicking here, busy week and try as I might never quite got to RMWeb...

 

So here's the thing, for those struggling with the whole COVID thing, social-distancing and generally dealing with the current "normal" - we have found a way to forget it entirely;

The below is offered sincerely as something to smile about, laugh at and/or simple think "boy this isn't so bad", which is exactly where we are now, this evening, and it's one of those "you can't make this sh!t (LITERALLY) up".

 

Yesterday afternoon we were having a little "trouble" with our downstairs toilet, simply didn't want to flush - righto they said, go get the plunger, off goes "me" plunging away to no avail. Leave it says we.

Trying later we noticed that the shower was now GAINING water without anyone showering

LOTS of water, LOOOTTSSSS of water, much of it quite smelly

Soon we were running a PUMP to try and prevent the shower overflowing into the rest of the bathroom while frantically calling a sewer cleaning company.

 

Company turns up pronto, surprised by the INFLOW of water - it's supposed to go 'tother way!

Manages to run the commercial snake down the sewer and finds NOTHING to be OUR problem.

Heads out to street, removes sewer manhole cover - et VIOLA - the main street/city sewer is blocked/backing up - INTO OUR SODDING HOUSE!!!

 

Call placed to city - meanwhile the basement bathroom, bedroom and part of the family room have puddles of distinctly unsavory water sloshing around on them, all gradually abating/cleaned up with copious amounts of industrial vacuuming.

City arrive, discover blocked main sewer, clear block, admit it's 100% their fault/problem, all will be handled "on them". Recommend an abatement/cleaning service to clear up the mess.

 

Abatement service arrive today, spend 6 hours cleaning, removing walls, flooring and the bathroom toilet/vanity all of which are contaminated. spray the living sh!t out of everything else, sanitize, decontaminate and generally sort out everything they can.

We now need the basement flooring replaced in the family room and bedroom, new skirting board all over the place, and a new vanity/wash basin and toilet in the bathroom - again it won't/shouldn't cost us anything, except for if we decide to have anything upgraded beyond what was there, and we'd then pay the differential.

 

For 24-hours and some, we've not thought about COVID and the ramifications, in the SLIGHTEST

 

Was +1 this morning, 9 for the high with rain off and on from late this afternoon.

 

Don't wish for something other than the current world situation - you MIGHT JUST GET IT!

Cute cat obviously enjoying the warmth of the amp (Unless its S/S!)  Sad situation but I think you're doing the right thing; theres no other way to put it.  We had to do the same thing and vowed we would never have another cat but we did although it took a while.

We had snow today, several times. We live in Canada: last snow of the winter on June 30; first snow of winter on July 1.

Garden shops opened yesterday. Dayle didn't find the plants she wanted but we bought 4 face masks. Today the hardware stores opened and we tried out the masks. I managed to get a replacement for a light socket that went weird earlier in the week.
