Afternoon All

 

Again, a couple of pages skipped - sorry to all for that.  As usual, the heartiest generic greetings are being given to the deserving.

 

Walk round the block this morning, then had to clean quite a bit of the tiling in the bathroom, in preparation for the bigger job tomorrow of fettling some of the grout - can't wait????

An effective solution to this, I believe, would be to take the prosecution of such events completely out of the hands of the police and the CPS and make it all automatic. Too frequently in the UK, nowadays, the prosecution of a crime seems to based more on the whims of the police and the CPS then on evidence that someone has actually committed an offence.
Much like you get a fixed penalty through the post when you speed pass a radar trap, any verbal assault on a hospital staff member should be followed within a day or so with a stiff fine (shall we say £500?). A limited right to appeal should, of course, be permitted. But if most people in A&E who are scared, worried and in pain do not abuse the hospital staff, there should be no tolerance for the scrotes who do. And for those who commit a physical assault, an even stiffer fine (say £5000) and an automatic three month custodial sentence should be applied.

An interesting, but relevant, digression is to mention a study that was done sometime ago, looking at the effectiveness of severity of punishment as a deterrent and, in the study, they also looked at how unavoidable punishment was and how immediate punishment was (Volunteers had the opportunity to commit a number of different “punishable actions“ and were “punished“ accordingly). To make a long story short, the most effective punishment was a mild one that was implemented rapidly in 100% of the times that the “punishable action” was observed. So perhaps if every time, without fail, a scrote verbally abused a hospital staff member they had to pay £25 fine, things would improve.

I suppose that after several weeks of one’s own cooking, even KFC would have the allure of a three Michelin starred restaurant!  I am a fairly accomplished cook, and even I am getting fed up with my own cooking.

Whilst KFC isn’t fine dining (or even the finest fried chicken around), sometimes you just need an ingestion of excess sugar, value free carbohydrates and unnecessary fats...

I am so sorry to hear this. Poor lad. I do hope that you’ll have the fortitude to have the vet come to you and put him to sleep. As heartbreaking as it will be, it will be a comfort that his last moments will be with you amongst familiar surroundings. And, by doing so, you will also avoid the distressing return journey from the vets with the empty cat carrier.

I think that I can speak for all ER cat and dog owners in hoping that your last days together will be filled with happy memories and his last moments will be calm and peaceful.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Again time has flown past, in fact it seems that last weekend was only a couple of days ago. I do hope some of the garden centres will be allowed to open as I had plans to plant a few more shrubs. I inspected the existing shrubs the other day. Many of them I planted 20+ years ago several feet apart but now they have all grown into each other and one looks as if it will require moving otherwise it will be choked by the others. There is also a small rose bush that has mysteriously appeared. I certainly didn't plant it and its not a dog rose. Its just about to flower and is a deep red colour.

Afternoon all,

 

went the day well?  (It's about the only war film which hasn't been on tv in the past couple of months but more a question in our context of asking if folk have had a good day?). I seem to have spent alot of my time either sorting out water and soap distribution equipment for the lad to clean his car or answering with an attempt at erudition so sensible questions which have arisen on various parts of RMweb - always nice (and sometimes a change for the far better) to deal with sensible stuff rather than some of the nonsense some parts of RMweb attracts.  Far too hot for the G word and i sincerely hope the outdoor room at the side of the garage isn't getting too hot as there is now an even greater quantity of shopping quarantined therein although quite a lot will be able to come indoors tomorrow - provided I can remember which is which.

 

As the photos showed this road stayed fairly well socially distanced yesterday but judging by some of the raucous music drifting about yesterday evening I suspect things might not have been quite so distanced in some other roads.  I hope those involved will not be paying the price of their behaviour in a few weeks time.  But at least the Postman brought some good news on Thursday for me, and also for OD, as our railway pensions are being increased by 1.7% which is much better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick and - if nobody else - will give HMRC a bigger smile on the money grabbing faces.

Afternoon all, and a scorcher it is.  Having sat outside in the sun for about 90 minutes, I have retired inside with a slight headache.  It will soon ease, I am sure.

 

Despite the warmth, Fraggle Rock is very clear today, with a slight mist at sea level, but the hills look really sharp.

 

Today I got the news that a former member of our MRC died yesterday.  He was in his late 80s and hadn’t been well for a while, but it is still sad.  He had been a fireman operating out of Nine Elms in the last days of BR steam on the Southern Region and had a few good tales to tell.  Sadly in the current situation, none of his friends in the MRC will be able to go to his funeral.

Evening.

 

What a lovely day in the garden. We were going for a walk to top up our beer supplies but i was carried away with getting the garden railway working again, luckily mainly in the shade but the walk wouldn't have been.

 

So now the rubble infill for the patio extension has been completed and trains are running. No need to order a pallet of paving slabs to complete the patio extension and add more paving around the shed.

 

Just found out that High Wycombe show http://www.hwdmrs.org.uk/wycrail/ in November is cancelled this year so no shows for the new layout now. Not unexpected though and I will be surprised if there are any shows this year but fingers crossed this virus disappears never to return.

Evening, chuckinitdarn here, started nice, went for a bike ride and then the clouds rolled in, had a busy day so didn't manage a visit to TOSH, so no muddling today, watching Yesterday channel on the tv, been a load of '60's music, now into the 70's with Ziggy Stardust, some of this stuff doesn't travel so well though.
