RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted April 30, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 30, 2020 Afternoon, awl, So to plans of mice and men, Well the mice had their way lots of chewed items in the railway shed and I didn't get to melt lead. The search for the old hot plates was a failure. Even SWMBO can't find where she put them safely away. I also got summoned to sort things out in the railway shed, I suspect SWMBO is planning an expansion from her end of the shed.. I did find the box of buildings belonging to the layout I'm working on, and a bag of micro strip and plastic moulded shapes, H, round , round Hollow etc. Bought some time ago as a cheap job lot. It's just got suddenly very very dark I suspect a large quantity of precipitation is imminent. Earlier I mentioned the purchase of some 1/148 walkway grids, that the UK laser cut product didn't look as good as the American etched brass but expensive product.. Well the UK product arrived.. Wow, the pictures are in no way are as good as the product actually is , I'm very very pleased with them. A trial paint to military green, on one grid was successful, using an almost dry brush so as not to block the tiny holes. Now I have them, calculations will commence in 3D to get a neat fit on the first level of the Radar assembly. Some of the microstrip has been used on the radar building.

I reckon that the only way for Noah to have had two of every beast on Earth in that size Ark would have been if he had had each pair (male and female) as frozen embryos and even then, I reckon he could have only gotten a fraction of Earth's biota into the Ark. Furthermore, what about those species that reproduce parthenogenetically? Or those, such as the Angler Fish, where the male is fused to the female's body after the male finds the female - pretty difficult when you have a benthic lifestyle. Not your basic "male and female"! 1 hour ago, Gwiwer said: And if Noah was so good why are there no unicorns today? http://omf.blogspot.com/2007/05/how-long-o-lord.html 2

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 30, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2020 Hot off the press - as from next Sunday evening 'The Archers' will be working to a different pattern - with a series of repeats of past (seemingly sometimes quite long past) for a period of 3 weeks. Apparently the initial theme is going to be 'weddings and wakes'.

The OFMC staple biscuit is the Milk Chocolate Oatie. Other delicacies are bought in from time to time. On special occasions we even get those that are hand crafted. The pack of Chocolate Oaties, bought for the last OFMC meeting at the beginning of March still lies in the cupboard. If the pack were to be opened, then I fear the poor little biscuits would not last very long in the savage world outside of the kitchen. (Runs to check the best before date, just in case they need disposing of: Well it would be a terrible waste to throw them out!) 13 2

Recognised the opening scene straight away in downtown Portland, Oregon. Should have been there this Summer but just heard on local BBC news that Norwegian Airlines wont be flying out of Gatwick any more so that's our flights gone but no word from them yet to say they are cancelled. Our fingers are crossed for an xmas trip to the West Coast but again not hopeful. 1

When I visited Australia in October I was sent back with some double-coated Tim-Tams. Arguably they are forbidden to me, but I permitted myself an occasional one from the 'fridge. Civilization has progressed to the point that some versions of Tim-Tams are available here - but not dark or double-coated. While Australian inventions are often limited to such things as boxed wine, the Hills hoist, Ugg boots and plastic money, (and I'll graciously let Kiwis have Pavlova, they are so desperate to own it) I think they elevated British biscuits. Despite a changing world, Arnott's assorted creams is exactly the same as I remember it more than 50 years ago. I will admit to being partial to Carr's ginger lemon creams as the perfect tea biscuit. 14

Other than some exteriors and the pilot, it was all shot in LA - that being the contractual obligation so the leading lady could live with her family during filming. "Stumptown" was of course the nickname for the pioneer city, firs being cleared, but stumps not removed. Apparently they were even whitewashed so people wouldn't bump into them. The name lives in a chain of coffee shops (and other things). Prosaic as it is, it has more character than being named for Portland (Maine) or the other alternative, Boston (Massachusetts). 1 10

I am sure we have had beer called Stumptown but yes other towns had the same nickname for the same reason. very few stumps nowadays in Portland as its a very green tree lined city and quite different to LA. Will look out for palm trees if I am there when she is watching future episodes!!
