RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2020 Just now, AndyID said: And very trick number plates too! One TT week we were sitting having a brew somewhere listening to two visitors arguing about the bikes having the same numbers. One you will have noticed is prefixed H the other U - U isn't issued in the UK so they were having a real issue deciding if they were real. Presumably new visitors who had not yet learned about Manx law vs UK law. So we told them how it works here, and they both then proceeded to tell us we were wrong....#sigh# ....and that the U was really a fudged H and we were breaking the law having two bikes with the same reg. Some people....telling them I worked for plod didn't help much either. Back when we came here such fancy numbers were £60 so all our bikes have something appropriate, and the camper has an interesting number, 'MAN' numbers are now at a premium as new ones are in the 'XMN' series. Numbers like ours are now at least several hundred quid, and if it's a 'good' one, thousands. The cars have 'as it comes' numbers, they're just tools to us. 19 1

Going by today’s numbers we have a tenth of the deaths accredited to Coronavirus. How does that work? The United States has about 4% of Global population 328M / 7.8B and 25% of total reported fatalities. A week ago I posted data indicating that fatalities per capita are significantly higher in the UK than in the US. How does that work globally? Western democracies are more transparent about reporting. China's (1.4B population) reported data may well be under-counted Africa (1.2B population) has not seen the potential impact of COVID-19 yet India (1.35B population) aggressively went into lock-down and has 779 reported fatalities - a small fraction of the US or UK. Australia has 0.3% of the global population and essentially zero fatalities (80). The UK has about 3 times the number of people than Australia, but almost 260 times the fatalities. Geography, global travel patterns, population density, wealth inequality, and governmental responses to the pandemic are all factors. RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2020 Grasscutting was undertaken at wife's work yesterday. 'Twas a tad warm work. I tried a different stripe pattern last week (the evidence is still visible) and it wasn't as good - so I reverted back to the one from the week before. A 90-second walk over the bridge and I can't wait to venture up the fairways again. There is a strong possibility that when the lockdown conditions are eased, golf will be one of the first pastimes to be allowed. [*] Another is lawn bowls. A further 60 second stroll to the 2nd green to catch an uncommon freight working with a Trans-Pennine Cat. [*] When the first stage of lockdown was introduced, golf was allowed under social distancing rules. That edict lasted 4 days, as that was over the weekend when every man, woman and their dogs descended upon the national parks. 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2020 Evening all. A nod to events not happening in Camborne today occurred with a bottle of "Hicks" (a/k/a HSD or "High Speed Death") on the terrace on what should have been Trevithick Day. His engine didn't steam past this year. A small order was also placed for necessities supplied by a shop in the same town. In other news SWMBO advised that she ordered flour and yeast a few days ago; today the yeast turned up but no flour. Quite what we do with 1kg of dried yeast is open to debate ..... she claims to have overlooked the weight of the pack when ordering and thought it was 10g. The G-word was undertaken and more is threatened tomorrow. Weeds have been removed (those plants we don't want growing among those we do) and neighbours were spied sunning themselves on the lawns suitably spaced out. Nothing what ever to do with illicit substances Rather more was on display than might normally be the case during the back-end of April though the weather is forecast to cool slightly tomorrow then be not-at-all sunny for a week ahead. We were all taking the fullest advantage possible. In conversation, at a dutiful distance, with others we received their thanks for the attention we are putting into the communal garden areas. And they, in turn, may benefit if the fruit and veg provide as we hope they will. The burning question from today's furtling session is how does one ensure the 0.5 bit is dead-straight in the pin-vice? I have a sizeable number of Dart Castings pieces which require some pre-marked holes to be fully bored out. Can I get the thing straight? Can I heck. On that note it is time to retire for the night. Sleep as well as your situation allows. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2020 Today was my first bike ride in many months. Although, all on-road, I decided to take my 14kg full-sus mountain bike - a TREK EX8- if only for my rear end comfort. (I love this bike!) A 30 min spin with the best bit (downhill!) saved to the end. Not particularly quick, but it's a starting point. 22
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Sorting through some papers just now I came across last years car insurance renewal. A couple of years ago I had made enquiries about adding my mate onto the insurance just in case we were out and I for some reason became unable to drive. When I enquired the extra cost was such that I dropped the idea. When I read the renewal notice I saw that they'd added his name. I will have to check on that on Monday. 2 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25, 2020 About an hour ago there was a strange noise outside, like a jet engine but static. All was revealed by a post on Farcebook. There was/is a fire at a refinery in Tilbury and it was a pressure valve 'blowing off'.

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 25, 2020 Good evening everyone First off, belated birthday greetings Dave. The sky has been virtually cloudless all day and it’s been quite warm too. The morning was spent in the cellar and both of the old towel rail sides have been sanded down and are now ready for undercoating, this will start tomorrow morning. After dinner I spent most of the afternoon in the workshop, but I finished early as it had been requested that I make a curry tonight, it’s been a while since we had one. We do have some of my curry sauces in the freezer, but unfortunately it’s been frozen in quantities that will either feed 4 adults, or 2 adults and 3 kids. So tonight I made a smaller batch than usual, approximately 6 portions, some of which was eaten tonight, the rest has been put into to 2 small containers, for use at a later date. We rounded off the evening with a bottle of merlot and watched some recorded TV. Goodnight all 20
Erichill16
I know it’s not the right thread but I’m with friends here so I’m going to ask a silly question. How/where do you get a ticket/make a donation for tomorrow’s virtual show? Do you just go to the charities own website and make a donation there? Goodnight, Robert 11
