Mike nice video there. Was their nickname "Corned beef can"?  we bought a fast airplane stuffed two Spey engines in it (which produced more thrust) and it was "slower" than the American ones...another case of don't ever believe the performance figures of the Company selling you Airplanes - no matter where they are from.

 

I am in need of some additional interior fitments for the miniature figure carrying vehicles. Can't find any on line...

Afternoon awl, 

 The keel has gained weight,  about 30kg, many more strips of lead to be cut to shape and installed.. 

 

At the MrCH I called the road contractors back in,  I wasn't happy with their previous work, so it was redone,  this was followed by... 5000/30= 167 ish.. Each cut from 1mm square  wire, then a 4 mm top piece bent at 120 degrees.

They are now grey,  but a bit dark,  a lighter second coat will be required. 

 

Shaving has reduced to when the fuzz gets annoying  that's about every 4 or 5 days..  Quite what i'll do when I retire in don't know,  but there should at there should be at least a pattern to the week,  whereas at the moment it's one continuous Saturday..

We enjoyed our ride out, allowed here now as non-essential journeys are OK'd provided social distancing is observed.  We have only had one new case in 5 days.

 

First stop was Maughold Head, looking back towards North Barrule.

 

 

Then Laxey, the great wheel seems odd with nobody about,being a popular tourist attraction.

 

 

Onwards south to the Big City, Douglas, looking north across the bay, the Ben-my-Chree in harbour as there is only one round trip a day currently, undertaken by the Manannin fast craft - borders are closed, only passengers are emergencies but of course there idfreight.

 

The down south to Port Erin, lovely bay looking across to the old mine workings.

 

 

Back up the west coast to Niarbyl, where 'Waking Ned' was filmed if you have ever seen that. 

 

 

Last stop Peel, looking at the castle - this is where I have my lunch when at work.

 

 

90 miles in all, nice trundle out on the little bikes.

Afternoon.

 

A long walk this lunch time via roads and footpaths that we have never been down even finding some of the nicest houses in Redhill / Reigate that I never knew existed. Even found a footbridge between the tow towns and quite conveniently a Southern train happened to be departing from Reigate towards Redhill and on to Victoria. Phone came in handy but I wont be posting photos on the forum or anywhere else incase the Gestapo are watching. Some topics on here wind me up so I try to avoid looking but temptation does occasionally get the better of me.

 

Then it was to our only pub serving take away ale and a walk back via the town centre but queues for M & S and Sainsburys way too long to be standing in them. next week we will probably avoid the town centre as its depressing and I get home feeling very down despite a really good interesting walk. My other half said she would rather starve than stand in the queues as they all get mingled up in each others shops queue.

 

I know that there's many out there much worse off or losing their fight with the virus which is far more serious but it still doesnt stop me getting down about the fact that we should have been at Rotarail in Fareham today and Bristol next weekend with various friends who we now wont see for some time. I am now avoiding the news as much as I can at them moment but at least number 45 does bring some bizzare mad moments.

 

Anyway back to my 2nd pint of Iron Pier brew and listening to the music in the shed. Might weather  an ex SECR C class that I renumbered a few years ago when I got it.

A little bit more done in The Shed today but nottalot.

Hmm, shaving. I started to grow a beard once many years ago but by 11.00 in the morning I couldn't stand it and shaved. The only time I've ever missed a shave is the first day after my knee operations and a couple of other episodes in hospital. I just don't feel awake until I've had one. As for haircuts none of these namby pamby 1s, 2s or 3s. It's a zero every time for me. Takes The Boss a couple of minutes every couple of weeks to keep me in trim. As she can't go to the hairdressers while we're locked down I've offered to give her a haircut. That went down well! 

Zoom time coming up so farewell for now.

Evening all from the boring borough. Gardening and shed flooring was the bulk of the day. Managed to get most of the remaining floor down. Helped SWMBO move one of the fountains and make an attempt on moving a small cedar that I’m convinced is a leylandii in disguise. No chance of shifting it. It has put down titanium  roots and is staying put unless we chop it down with an angle grinder. I now ache all over. A couple of hours in a hot tub with the jets on full is on the agenda. 

 

SWMBO’s order of German food arrived today. 6.5kg of bratwurst and frankfurters. Needless to say dinner was bbq cheesey frankfurters. The order came with curry catsup as well. Result.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I have worn various styles of facial hair over the years. Late 60's early 70's it was all about the chin but a bare top lip, think Manfred Mann. Then in the later 70's it was the other way round with a Zapata tash to go with the flares, great times but the next two and a half decades it was out with the razor until retirement. I still have the pics from my hols back then, I didn't realise I was so skinny back then.

Thanks for that Mike. One of the RAF Phantoms in the film, XT891, was the first one I ever flew about six months after that film was made. And as far as fitting Speys was concerned (as stated by Baz), that was at the RN's insistence for operations from carrier decks smaller than the USN's and with smaller catapults. The RAF/RN jets were actually faster than the J79 engine versions at low level and had better range but the high level performance was poorer.

 

Thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday. It's been a great day and is just about to be rounded off with a special dinner prepared by Jill accompanied by a rather good Chablis and followed by the odd drop of Balvenie.

Depends on how you count them. France with a similar population has similar figures. Other countries such as North Korea* won't even release figures.* Just had a news flash, Kim Jong-un has died.
